INTRODUCTION
Organisational behaviour is concerned with the study of what people do in an
organisation and how their behaviour affects the performance of the
organisations.
Organisational behaviour is the study and application of knowledge about how
people, individuals and groups act in an organisation. It interprets peopleorganisation relationships in terms of the whole person, group, whole
organisation and whole social system. Its purpose is to build better relationships
by achieving human objectives, organisational objectives and social objectives.
Organisational behaviour includes all aspects of individual, people, and
organisation such as Learning, Perception, Attitude and Values, Motivation,
Group dynamics, Conflict management, Change Management, and Leadership.

THE MOVIE- Rang de basanti

Rang de basanti is a 2006 Indian Drama film, written and directed by Rakesh
Omprakash Mehra. It features an ensemble cast comprising Aamir Khan,
Siddharth Narayan, Soha Ali Khan, Kunal Kapoor, Madhavan, Sharman Joshi,
Atul Kulkarni, and British actress Alice Patten in the lead roles.
The story is about a British documentary film maker who is determined to make
a film on Indian freedom fighters based on diary entries by her grandfather, a
former officer of the British Indian Army. Upon arriving in India, she asks the
group of five young men to act in her film.
They agree, but after they begin filming, a friend of their, is killed in a fighter
aircraft crash, with government corruption appearing to be the root cause of the
incident. This event radicalizes them from being carefree to passion-driven
individuals who are determined to avenge his death.

RELATING CONCEPTS OF ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR

WITH THE THEORIES PREVAILED IN THE MOVIE

LEARNING
Learning may be described as the process of acquiring the ability to respond
adequately to a situation which may or may not have been previously
encountered, the favourable modification of response tendencies consequent
upon previous experience, particularly the building of a new series of complex
coordinated motor response; the fixation of times in memory so that they can be
recalled or organised; the process of acquiring insight into situation.
Thus, learning can be defined as the relatively permanent change in behaviour
as a result of prior experiences.

Rang de basanti, the movie begins with the learning principle. The movie
starts with a British lady, having an old diary of her grandfather, who was an
officer in the British army during the period of Indias independence. The diary
contained all the harsh as well as cruel experiences of the officer. The lady after
learning from the experiences has a great urge to visit India and if possible
could apologise for the sins on behalf of her grandfather. Therefore, she starts
with directing the movie so that she could explain the young generation about
the sacrifices the Indian leaders did.

PERSONALITY

The term personality has been derived from a Latin word- personare, which
means to speak through. Personality means how people affect others and how
they understand and view themselves, as well as their pattern of inner and outer
measurable traits and the person-situation interaction.
Personality is used in terms of influencing others through external appearance.
A person can be of personality type A or B. Different personality has different
traits or characteristics.

Similarly, in the movie the personality has played an important role in

designating the characters of the movie, the British lady wants to produce.
For example, in the movie Aamir Khan(in the lead role) was asked to portray
the character of Indian freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad, since the actor
belonged to the Type B personality which completely matches with that of the
freedom fighter. Type B personality people are not hurrying into things, take
time to think and ponder before acting upon their work. They may also delay
their work to the last minute if they find it suitable.
While, the personality type A people are opposite to type B. These are people
with a lot of time urgency and impatience. These people prioritise their work
over all their relationships, since they are so particular about time and how they
spend their time.
For example, the characters of Indian freedom fighters Bhagat Singh and
Satguru, as shown in the movie- Rang de basanti.

MOTIVATION
Motivation is derived from a word motive. Motive refers to the needs, wants,
drives, impulses within individuals.
Motivation may be defined as the process of stimulating people to action, to
accomplish desired goals. It involves arousing needs and desires in people to
initiate and direct their behaviour in a purposive manner. It is a psychological
phenomenon which arises from the feeling of needs and wants of individuals. It
causes goal-directed behaviour.
There are different types of motivation such as- positive v/s negative
motivation, rational v/s emotional motivation, primary v/s secondary
motivation, intrinsic v/s extrinsic motivation, and financial v/s non-financial
motivation.
In the movie, Rang de basanti there has been the use of positive motivation
when after shooting the movie, the characters used to party and enjoy since all
thing were as per direction.
If things were not under control, negative motivation was also practised.
Rational motivation as well as emotional, though contrary, were used to explain
the characters of the freedom fighters, the pain they bore, the experiences they
had, etc to the original movie characters.

LEADERSHIP
Leadership is the process of influencing the behaviour of others to work
willingly and enthusiastically for achieving predetermined goals.
It is the ability of the leader to induce subordinates to work with confidence and
zeal. Leadership changes potential, i.e., in an organisation and its people.
Thus, leadership is the ability to influence a group toward the achievement of
goal. In most organisational settings, it is a leader who frames the team purpose
and facilitates discussions on its meaning and nature.
There are different styles of leadership such as- autocratic or dictorial style,
democratic or participative style, and free rein or Laissez Faire leadership style.
Similarly, in the movie Indian freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad was
considered to be a leader because he used to formulate the group plans,
coordinating each one of the party members, assigning roles to all members, and
thereafter controlling each one of them also caring for each member.

GROUP DYNAMICS
Kurt Lewin popularized the term group dynamics in 1930s. Group dynamics
describes both a subject matter and a scientific field of study. When Kurt Lewin
described the way groups and individuals act and react to changing
circumstances, he named these forces as group dynamics.
Group dynamics refers to those forces operating or present in the group and
which influence the behaviour of the members of the group. These forces
chiefly are the group composition, group norms, group leadership, group
cohesiveness, etc.
Thus, group dynamics is a social process by which people interact face to face
in small groups. It encompasses the dynamics of interaction patterns within the
group, the subtle and the non-subtle pressures exerted by group members, the
manner in which decisions are made in the group, how work gets done and how
member needs are satisfied.
The whole movie Rang de basanti, was popular and hit due to group dynamics
as a whole. In the complete movie, it was the group in which the characters
work. The decisions that the leader took were abide by the whole group. Group
dynamics has been clearly evident from the starting to the end of the movie.

CONCLUSION
Organisational behaviour is the study and application of knowledge about how
people as individuals and as groups- act within organisations. It strives to
identify ways in which people can act more effectively.
Organisational behaviour starts with a set of fundamentals concepts revolving
around the nature of people and organisations. These fundamental concepts are
the enduring principles that form a strong foundation for organisational
behaviour.
The field of organisational behaviour is both exciting and complex, myriad
variables and concepts go along with the interactions just described, and is
pervasive, i.e. followed everywhere.
These all aspects greatly complicate the managers ability to understand,
appreciate, and manage others in the organisation. They also provide unique
opportunities to enhance personal and organisational effectiveness.
