Features
Technically, the SAP Reference IMG is a set of Hypertext structures.
Each Hypertext or IMG structure contains customizing settings and their documentation.
The Currencies node is a structure node. It is a container for several IMG activities, e.g. Check Currency Codes .
Use
Technically an IMG structure is an object comprising the following subobjects:
IMG activity
Documentation object
Attributes
Maintenance object
All objects, including the structure, are in the
object catalog TADIR, in which all development objects are managed.
Each object is assigned to a package. The package controls translation and transport. Each package has an original system which should also contain the original
of its objects.

IMG activity
You can make customizing settings in IMG activities. The IMG activity is linked to the transaction which makes and describes customizing settings.
An IMG activity is characterized by the following objects:
Documentation
Attributes
Maintenance objects
Documentation object
All structure nodes contain documentation. Documentation objects which describe structure nodes have the documentation class CHAP , those which describe
an IMG activity, SIMG .
Attributes
Attributes characterize and specify an IMG activity. Structure nodes have no attributes. You can show attributes, e.g. Activity importance, in the IMG structure
under Additional information .
You can create project views from attributes, in the
Customizing project management.
Maintenance objects
You can go from an IMG activity to the customizing settings via the maintenance object. A maintenance object is defined by a customizing object, the object type,
and the associated transaction.
You can also address software enhancements which were defined by the application development and programmed by the customer, via the maintenance object.

You can also insert existing IMG activities in the structure. Click on the Assign other activity icon to the right of the ID input field. Enter the ID of
the existing IMG activity or other search criteria in the following dialog box, and choose Search (Continue) .

An existing IMG activity is already linked to a document, attributes and a maintenance object. This link is retained when you choose the IMG
activity.

Reusing objects.
4. Only mark the Organizational activity field if it is for information only, not a system setting. An organizational activity has documentation and attributes, but
no maintenance object, and cannot be performed.
Organizational activity example: Create calculation rules for averages
Result
You can then assign or create documents, maintain attributes and create a maintenance object.
Procedure
Choose the Document tab in the Assigned objects
group box .
If you want to create a new document for the IMG activity, enter a name for the document and choose Create .
The name can contain alphanumeric characters and the special character "_".
You go to the text editor. Specify a package class when you save the text. You return to the previous initial screen with Back .
3. To use an existing document, choose the Assign other document pushbutton to the right of the document name. Choose an existing document and choose
Copy .
4. Save the changes with IMG activity Save .
Maintaining Attributes
Prerequisites
You have opened an IMG structure in change mode and created an IMG activity. Attributes can only be maintained for IMG activities. Structure nodes have no
attributes. You can create Customizing projects in the project management by selecting attributes.
Procedure
1. +Choose the Attributes tab in the Assigned objects group box.
2. If you want to create a new attribute group for an activity, enter an attribute group ID and name.

To use an existing attribute group, choose the Assign other attributes pushbutton to the right of the ID field. Choose an attribute group and choose Copy .
For further information about using the same attribute group for several activities, see Reusing objects.
3. Maintain the business attributes.
Assign an ASAP Roadmap node to your IMG activity and assign attributes for the whether the IMG activity is necessary or critical.
4. Specify the country-dependency. When you have selected either invalid for specified countries or only valid for specified countries , a country selection
window appears.
In this case the Customizing is country-specific attribute is also set automatically. If you have set the Valid for all countries attribute, you should specify
whether the IMG activity has country-specific Customizing settings.
5. Assign one or more application components. Possible entries help is available.
If you specify several application components, you must link them with a logical operator: "O" is an AND/OR relationship, "A" is an AND relationship and
"N" is not equal.
The component relationship HLA0006433 O HLA0009600 means that the IMG activity is in one component or the other or both.
6. Save your entries with the Save attributes pushbutton at the bottom of the Attribute tab.
Prerequisites
You have opened an IMG structure in change mode and created an IMG activity.
Procedure
Choose the Maintenance objects tab in the Assigned objects group box .
If you want to create a new maintenance object, enter an object ID and name.
To use an existing maintenance object, choose the Assign other maintenance object (first symbol to the right of the ID field).
For further information about using the same maintenance object for several activities, see
Reusing objects.
Flag the maintenance object as a Customizing object under Maintenance object type .
Enter a customizing object under Assigned objects .
You can search for customizing objects with the F4 key.
Enter the customizing object type.
This information is in the table OBJH which you can display in the transaction SOBJ.
Enter the customizing settings transaction code.
If the customizing object is a view, enter the View maintenance transaction code SM30 here, if it is a View cluster, enter the View cluster maintenance transaction
code SM34. Avoid using individual transactions if possible.
Save your entries with the Save maintenance object pushbutton at the bottom of the Maintenance objects tab.
Save the IMG activity with IMG activity Save .
Result
You have created the IMG activity and can now test the jump to customizing settings.

Nodes 1 and 2 have different IMG activities with their own documents, attributes and maintenance objects. Node 3 contains another IMG activity which comprises
the documentation of activity 1, the attributes of activity 2 and its own maintenance object. Node 4 does not have its own IMG activity, the complete activity which
is assigned to node 1 is also assigned to node 4.
Prerequisites
The Ongoing settings flag is set in the transaction SOBJ for the customizing object used in the maintenance object. This flag is in the object header data.
Features
When a maintenance object is created in SIMGH, a parameter transaction, which is usually not displayed, is generated when it is saved. When you enter a
customizing object which is flagged as ongoing settings in SOBJ, as maintenance object in the transaction SIMGH, the parameter transaction is displayed in the
IMG activity header data. To be able to make customizing settings from the productive system, you must put this parameter transaction in the appropriate area
menu with the transaction SE43.
