QQC on power of protocols by Deepa Khajuria

Re- reading was required to understand the protocols. I was not able to focus for a longer
time. Few protocols were difficult to understand. Flexibility is needed or partial execution can
be done while executing the protocols. Amendments may be required keeping the grade, time,
age and interest of the students in mind.
I could find very few protocols which can be applicable to my grade (Pre K) as
students are too young to understand and follow protocols. Although reading the book gave
good understanding of some terminologies and its deeper meaning. I was able to make some
connection with our training sessions taken by our mentor where somewhere we used few
protocols to some extent. I feel few of them can be done while we have our meeting/
presentation with Parents or within our team.
I was muddled up with the reading and was figuring out how will I execute or learn the
protocols by implementing it practically but when I finished reading the book and I went
through the conclusion part which changed my perception towards the book. There are some
wonderful tips given which inspired me to jump in the ocean of new learning without having
the fear of drowning.
Taking a new path is always difficult but PBL training has changed my perspective. I
discovered new confidence within me.
Reading the book gave me broad understanding of what protocols are, where and when
it can be used, how will it help me as a teacher for me and my students growth and overall the
connections which I could make.
Some quotes which I liked from the books were One good way to educate ourselves is to pause periodically in our practise to become
deliberate student of our students- PG 3
This saying is 100% true as reflection is the most important part of our life
especially our practises as a teacher. I could connect it with our term, unit as
well as the yearly reflection which helps us to plan better for our students. It
helps you frame a better path for the future.
Higher performance requires a change of organizational paradigm rather than greater
dedication to the existing one. Pg.- 9
A paradigm shift is required to avoid the sigmoid curves of our life and to bring
a change as we are 21st century educators. We can reach excellence only when
we have the high ethics to bring a change in the culture as a community. I could
relate it our PBL training as well as the guidance given by my mentor to stay as
one and work in harmony.
If you think it, say it, if you wonder it, ask it.- Pg. 27
This is something we practise and ask our students to follow. It applies in all the
arenas and stages of life. I could connect it with myself as I ask many questions
to clarify things no matter what other people think about me and I give this
freedom to my kids as well.
Timing will be rigid for a purpose but that they will have more relaxed time later.
Following protocols strictly helps you gain better results later. We might think
that we dont have enough freedom but as its said that topics can be discussed
as much as we want to prolong but then we get deviated from our end goal so
its important to stick to the point and hit the target. I could connect this
statement with my own self. I have a habit to plan things in advance. When at
the end I dont stand at Q1, I feel it was good that I was firm with my thoughts.
I could even connect it with what our Mentor who keeps on saying that when
you take up a charge, initially you feel that its too tedious but when you get the
fruits of your hard work, then you have much relaxed time later.

Being tough in public and forgiving in private pg-53

As educators we try different strategies to deal with tough situations but
sometimes we are not sure whether we will succeed or not? We always take
chances to try to better up things. I could connect it with few students of my
class who test my patience to the fullest but when you set some consequences for
their actions in mass, they tend to be flexible and calm in their behaviour.
Sometimes it happens that due to the fear of facing the consequences, they cooperate with you and the problem gets solved.
Impossible to move and hard to scale- pg 77
Students work is unique and its difficult to be judgemental about it. We need to
understand the deep thoughts under their work which may force a teacher to
think from different perspective and learn to unlearn. A teacher needs to wear
students lenses and review their work. I could connect it with the slow learners
of my class whose work is not understood at first go but we need to go deep to
know what they think.
We look at students work to understand our own work- Pg 104
Students work reflects our practises. If we falter anywhere in giving the right
knowledge, it is clearly seen in their output and so its important to have age
appropriate and adequate knowledge of the curriculum before we impart it as
students failure is our failure to a great extent. Reflecting on your work helps
you produce better results for the next time. I could relate it with the
worksheets which we had prepared for the students as per differentiated levels
but when they did it, we didnt got the expected result which gave us an idea
that we need to rework on it to help students show their understanding.

Reflective outcome-Best practises are the outputs of deep reflections and constructive feedback.
We should look up at new opportunities not as one more thing to do but a new learning. Failure
helps you understand things better and broadens your knowledge so keep going.
The key to success is learn to unlearn, collaborate with others and be open to feedback to review
your understanding as well as students work, represent your ideas in a way that people can make
sense and built upon their knowledge and connection.
The protocols which I liked were Shadow Protocol and ESP protocols.
My wondering?????
Reading the book gave me good understanding on protocols but I wonder how far I will be able to
execute it following the steps mentioned there.
How far I will be able to remember which protocol to use when and how to use it frequently with
my age group students.
