Compare the following examples

III. Put the verbs in brackets into the present


continuous or the present simple.

We can use the future simple, be going to, present


continuous or present simple to talk about future
actions.

1. Is Gordon coming (Gordon/come) with us


tonight? No, he isnt (be/not)

a) Hell sell his car.


(will: the future action may or may not happen)
b) Shes going to study abroad next year.
(be going to: to express intention)
c) Theyre leaving for Mexico tomorrow.
(present continuous: for an arranged action)
d) The bus leaves at nine oclock.
(present simple: for timetables)

I. Jonathan is not satisfied with his life as it is. He has


already decided to change a number of things. Look
at the prompts and say what he intends to do, as
in example.

II. Now look at Jonathans diary. What he has already


arranged to do? Make sentences, as in the
example.

IV. Fill in the gaps with one of the verbs from the list
in the correct tense.

using the present continuous or be going to, as

VIII. Write a letter to a friend about what you are


going to do in Paris (100-120 words). Use the
following prompts and paragraph plan given:

go to the Eiffel Tower/ enjoy the spectacular


view of the city;
visit the famous Notre Dame Cathedral/ take
pictures;
go on a boat trip on the Seine/ see more of
Paris
go to the Left Bank/ have a cup of coffee and a
cake.
Visit Versailles/walk around the palace and its
beautiful gardens.

VI. Read Janes letter about her trip to Rome and


expand the notes in the second paragraph into full
sentences. Use first, then, also and finally in your
paragraph.
