Aloha, and Welcome to the Eng 22 Learning

Plan Project!
We hope that through this project, you will be able to:

Become aware of your strengths and how you can apply them to being a
successful college student.
Articulate where you envision yourself in the next few years.
Identify a need/challenge to being a successful college student and create a plan
to address it.
Put your plan into action to help yourself to be a successful college student.
A Kahikoluamea Counselor will visit your class at the beginning of the semester to
introduce this project. You will sign-up for a future group appointment at this time.
You will then need to:
1. Complete Part I of the Learning Plan before you attend your group
appointment with your Kahikoluamea Counselor.
2. Attend your group appointment with your completed Part I. At this time, you
will discuss/complete Part 2 of the Learning Plan with your Kahikoluamea
Counselor.
3. Complete Part 3 of the Learning Plan on your own by April 26, 2015 and turn
entire Learning Plan in by uploading your assignment to Drop Box on our Laulima
course site.
Are you ready? Lets go!

Part I
My Strengths & Goals
Read the following carefully and think about how it applies to you:
In thinking about your strengths, think about an activity that meets the following
criteria:

You are great (not just good) at it;

When thinking about the task, you are excited you anticipate the activity;
When doing the task you find it easy to concentrate and get absorbed in
the activity, even losing track of time;
Once the task is completed, you have more energy than before.

If the majority of your job has you engaged in activities that are strengths, you are
much more likely to:
Turn out stellar performance
Enjoy what youre doing
Be intrinsically motivated
Be happier and more pleasant to work with
Paying attention to your strengths will be a win for you, for your manager, for your coworkers, and for whomever your work ultimately benefits (whether thats clients, project
participants, communities, nations, the planet).
(Marcus Buckingham, author, Go Put Your Strengths to Work)

Section A: My Strengths

Reflect upon your strengths. Then, insert pictures here that describe your
strengths or what others have said were your strengths.

Write about your strengths.

Ive been told that im good with understanding people and giving advice to
others in in need. Ive also been told that I have good leadership skills and help
keeping things organized. I also have a lot of perseverance and I dont give up
easily. I dont sulk about my mistakes. I look at my mistakes and dont let them
define who I am. I take them as lessons and experiences so that i wont make
the same mistake again.

Section B: My Strengths in Action

Give an example of how you will apply these strengths to achieve success this
semester at KCC.
Because I have perseverance, I wont give up when times get difficult. When
exams and homework assignments get crammed all together, Ill prioritize my
work and get things done in an orderly fashion.

Section C: My Future Goals

Related to your academic and career goals, where do you see yourself.
In five years?
In five years, Ill be 25 years old so hopefully Ill be finishing up my study in
Interface Design and graduating with a bachelors degree at the Art University in
San Francisco. Hopefully by then Ill have a job waiting for me.

In 10 years?
In 10 years I see myself financially stable and out of school and having a
permanent job at a company.

Part 2
My Learning Plan
This section will be discussed in your group appointment (with your
Kahikoluamea counselor).
Based upon your strengths and future goals that you stated in Part I, please
complete the following:
A. My Need:
What is your main need/challenge that you will address in order to be
successful in college this semester?
My motivation needs help because I tend to lose my motivation and I need
to learn how to organize and prioritize my timing and scheduling with life,
work, and school.

B. Resource/Action:
What resource or action will you take to help you to meet this
need/challenge in college?
I will use a daily planner to jot down the important information assignments
that need to be accomplished.

What are at least two other resources here on campus or at home that I can
use to be successful?
New Media Arts counselor, and exploring career websites.

C. Steps and Timeline:

How (list the steps) and when will you do this?

D. Obstacles and Solutions:

What are my main obstacles and what are solutions to prevent/overcome
these?
One obstacle and my biggest concern that may prevent me from
accomplishing my tasks on time would have to be work. If Im not at school
then Im most likely working a full day shift at my job. The long work hours
may prevent me from being able to finish my tasks on time because of my
inability to stay up. To prevent this from happening, I plan on working on all
my assignments on the day that it was given to me. I am able to do this
because I finish class at 1:30 giving me a lot of free time afterwards.
Another obstacle may be social outings with coworkers or friends. In order
to prevent this from getting in the way, I will set my priorities up and finish
all my work and essays before I go out and enjoy myself.

E. Stakeholders: Who is counting on my success and why?

My friends and boyfriend are my stakeholders because they motivate me to
do well in school because they care about my future and I dont want to let
them down. My dad is also my stakeholder because he pays for my college
tuition and I dont want to let that money be put to nothing. I am my own
stakeholder because I am determined to pass this accelerated course. I need
both the credits for this accelerated course in order for me to take future
prequisite classes for my desired major.

F. Accountability: What can I do to hold myself accountable for my

success?

I plan on writing all my homeworks and essay due dates ahead of time in my
planner so that I am aware of whats ahead of me in the future so I can have
better time management throughout the semester. To keep track of the
completed assignments in my planner, I plan on highlighting all the
completed work to keep track of what I have completed. I also plan on
having one of my close friends check up on my work at the end of the week
so that I can make sure that I am kept up with everything.
