The B-2 visa is for travel that is recreational in nature, including tourism, vi

sits with friends or relatives, medical treatment and activities of a fraternal,


social or service nature.
That the purpose of your trip to the U.S. is for a temporary visit, such as busi
ness, pleasure, or medical treatment
That you plan to remain in the U.S. for a specific, limited period of time
Evidence of funds to cover your expenses while in the United States
That you have a residence outside the U.S., as well as other binding social or e
conomic ties, that will ensure your return abroad at the end of your visit
If you apply for a business/tourist visa, you must submit the following:
A Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application (DS-160) Form. Visit the DS-160 webpa
ge for more information about the DS-160.
A passport valid for travel to the United States with a validity date at least s
ix months beyond your intended period of stay in the United States (unless count
ry-specific agreements provide exemptions). If more than one person is included
in your passport, each person desiring a visa must submit an application.
One (1) 2"x2" (5cmx5cm) photograph. This page has information about the required
photo format.
A receipt showing payment of your US$160 non-refundable nonimmigrant visa applic
ation processing fee, paid in local currency. This page has more information abo
ut paying this fee. If a visa is issued, there may be an additional visa issuanc
e reciprocity fee, depending on your nationality. The Department of State's webs
ite can help you find out if you must pay a visa issuance reciprocity fee and wh
at the fee amount is.

Pay the visa application fee.
Step 2
Complete the Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application (DS-160) form.
Step 3
Schedule your appointment on this web page. You will need three pieces of inform
ation in order to schedule your appointment:
Your passport number
Your MRV fee payment receipt number
The ten (10) digit barcode number from your DS-160 confirmation page
Step 4
Visit the U.S. Embassy/Consulate on the date and time of your visa interview. Yo
u will need to bring a printed copy of your appointment letter, your DS-160 conf
irmation page, one recent photograph, your current passport and all old passport
s. Applications without all of these items will not be accepted.
You should bring the following documents to your interview. Original documents a
re always preferred over photocopies and you must bring these documents with you
to the interview. Do not fax, email or mail any supporting documents to the Emb
assy.
Current proof of income, tax payments, property or business ownership, or assets
.
Your travel itinerary and/or other explanation about your planned trip.
A letter from you employer detailing your position, salary, how long you have be
en employed, any authorized vacation, and the business purpose, if any, of your
U.S. trip.

Criminal/court records pertaining to any arrest or conviction anywhere, even if


you completed your sentence or were later pardoned.
Additionally, based on your purpose of travel, you should consider bringing the
following:
Visiting a relative
Bring photocopies of your relative's proof of status (e.g. Green Card, naturaliz
ation certificate, valid visa, etc).
To visit Canada, you must:
have a valid travel document, such as a passport,
be in good health,
convince an immigration officer that you have ties such as a job, home, financial
assets or family that will take you back to your home country,
convince an immigration officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your vi
sit, and
have enough money for your stay. (The amount of money you will need can vary. it
depends on things like how long you will stay, and whether you will stay in a h
otel or with friends or relatives.)
You may also need a:
temporary resident (visitor) visa, depending on your citizenship (see Find out i
f you need a visa),
medical exam and
letter of invitation from someone who lives in Canada.

If you depend on someone financially, that person can provide proof that they ha
ve sufficient funds to support you in Canada by writing a letter of support.
The letter includes the amount of money this person will be providing, with supp
orting evidence of their relationship to you. Along with the letter, proof that
this person has sufficient funds can be shown by submitting as many of the follo
wing as possible:
proof of a Canadian bank account in the name of the person providing you with mo
ney if funds have been transferred to Canada
proof of a student/education loan from a financial institution
bank statements for the past four months
a bank draft in convertible currency
proof of payment of tuition and accommodation fees
a letter from the person or institution providing you with money
proof of funding paid from within Canada if you have a scholarship or are in a C
anadian-funded educational program

Document: Invitation Letter

You must provide a letter of invitation from the person inviting you to Canada.
The letter must be written by the host and should have specific information abou
t the host and invitee.
The letter should state the purpose and length of the visit, the nature of the r
elationship between you and the host, the contact information of the host, etc.
If you are being invited to conduct business in Canada, a letter of invitation s
hould be printed on the company s letterhead and include:
the host s full name, title and business contact information
a brief summary of the reason for the invitation, including details of the busin
ess or trade to be undertaken
the full names of all employees from your company who are being invited by your
host
the intended duration and a detailed itinerary of the visit
a statement specifying who will be responsible for all travel-related expenses
Document: Proof of Relationship
You must provide proof of your relationship with your host or family member. Thi
s can include:
a marriage certificate
Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union (IMM5409)
a birth certificate
an official document naming you as a parent
a copy of the inside back cover of the inviter s passport showing the inviter s pare
nts, if applicable

If you are visiting Canada, you must prove that you can support yourself and the
family members accompanying you while you are in Canada by providing as many of
the following documents:
your bank statements for the past four months
a bank draft in convertible currency
pay stubs
an employment letter
proof of assets or business
proof of payment of tuition and accommodation fees
tax reports, declarations or statements
proof of a student/education loan from a financial institution
a letter from the person or institution providing you with money
proof of funding paid from within Canada, if you have a scholarship or are in a
Canadian-funded educational program
proof of a Canadian bank account in your name if money has been transferred to C
anada
If you are applying for permanent residence in Canada, you must provide an offic
ial letter issued by your financial institution indicating your financial profil
e.
Your financial profile includes a listing of all your bank (chequing and savings
) and investment accounts. The official letter must be printed on the letterhead
of the financial institution and must include your name, the contact informatio
n of the financial institution (address, telephone number and e-mail address), t
he account numbers, dates of when each account was opened and the balance of eac
h account over the previous 6 months.

You must scan all proof of funds documents and save them as one file.

You must submit proof that you are coming to Canada for a temporary visit.
Examples of what you can provide as proof:
A scanned copy of:
Your flight ticket departing Canada,
Your travel itinerary (e.g. places you will visit or stay, such as hotel booking
),
Proof of a medical appointment.
