Description

Anti-corrosion refers to the protection of metals surfaces from corroding in highly corrosive
environments. Metallic materials react with the air or water surfaces once they are put to corrosive
environments. The corrosive effect is clearly visible on the metal surfaces. Hence, any metal material
that lack preventive measures may rust from outside as well as inside based on the surrounding
atmospheric conditions. A number of methods are been used to reduce the risk of corrosion,
primarily in marine applications. Anti-corrosion is one of the measures used particularly in the areas
of humidity and moisture.
Anticorrosion coatings are the tools to protect metal materials from corrosion. They are widely
applicable in automobiles, tunnels and bridges among others. There are large numbers of growth
areas for anti-corrosive coatings such as power, oil and gas, infrastructure and industrial among
others. High performance anticorrosion coatings are also used to protect metal materials, tanks,
concrete structures, pipes and processing equipments from exposure to corrosive atmospheric
conditions and acid rains. These high performance anti-corrosive coatings are majorly used in the oil
refineries, paper and pulp mills, chemical industry, used to protect ships, production platforms,
offshore drilling rigs and other materials used in the marine environment. The transport industry is
also the major consumer of high performance anti- corrosion coatings.
High performance anti-corrosion coatings are generally classified into two major markets such as
industrial maintenance coatings, also known as protective coatings that has applications in the
petrochemical, oil and gas, power generations and paper mill industries among others. These
coatings are applied to structures that are based on lands and some of these coatings are applied in
offshore oil and gas rigs. The second market include marine coatings that are applied to commercial
ships, including cruise ships, tows, freight carriers and yachts among others. The various types of
high performance coatings include alkyd coatings, acrylic coatings, epoxy coatings, silicone coatings
and urethane coatings among others. Water based industrial protective coatings are expected to
gain demand in the market due to increased regulations to produce low VOC. These coatings are
eco-friendly and hence used on a large scale for various applications in the market.

The increasing use of high performance anti-corrosion coatings in the power industry is the major
factor driving the high performance anti-corrosion coatings market. The growing oil and gas industry
is also expected to boost major demand for the high performance anti-corrosion coatings market.
Specific requirements of the coatings and strict environmental regulations are expected to pose
threat to the growing high performance anti-corrosion coatings market.
New innovative solutions in the power industry are expected to gain huge opportunities in the near
future. Eco-friendly alternative in the power industry i.e. in wind mill production is expected to gain
huge demand in the near future.
