analysis&designingisdoneinStaad.Pro.Theprocessof
designingisdefinedinthebestsuitablemanneritcanbe.Allthe
specificresultsarealsoshownintheend.

Stadd.ProV8iisthemostpopularstructural
engineeringsoftwareproductfor3Dmodelgeneration,analysisand
multimaterialdesign.Ithasanintuitive,userfriendlyGUI,
visualizationtools,powerfulanalysisanddesignfacilitiesand
seamlessintegrationtoseveralothermodelinganddesignsoftware

products.ThesoftwareisfullycompatiblewithallWindows
operatingsystemsbutisoptimizedforWindowsXP.
Forstaticordynamicanalysisofbridges,containment
structures,embeddedstructures(tunnelsandculverts),piperacks,
steel,concrete,aluminumortimberbuildings,transmissiontowers,
stadiumsoranyothersimpleorcomplexstructure,Stadd.Prohas
beenthechoiceofdesignprofessionalsaroundtheworldfortheir
specificanalysisneeds.
Stadd.Proisageneralpurposeprogramforperformingthe
analysisanddesignofawidevarietyoftypesofstructures.The
basicthreeactivitieswhicharetobecarriedouttoachievethatgoal
a)modelgenerationb)thecalculationstoobtaintheanalytical
resultsc)resultverificationareallfacilitatedbytoolscontainedin
theprogram'sgraphicalenvironment.
Thestaadmodelispreparedtothescaleintheworkingspace
ofstaad.Theframestructuremodelisgeneratedwhichconsistsof
beamsandcolumnsandthenthematerialwiththeircrosssection
propertiesareinputtedtostaad.Theloadsarethenassignedand
afterthatthestructureisanalyzedwiththehelpofthestaad
program.
Thewholeprocessoftheanalysisanddesignaregivenbelow.
1.InputtingthejobInformation:Firstlytheinformationofthe
projectiswrittenafteropeningthestaad.Asthenameofthe
project/job,Clientsnameandthedatewhenprojectstartedandthe
nameoftheEngineeraswellandmuchmoreinformationis
inputted.
2.Generatingthe3dmodelgeometry:Therearetwomethodsof
creatingastructuredatainstaad.
a.UsingthecommandfilealsocalledThestaadeditor
method.
b.Usingthegraphicaluserinterface(GUI).
Wehavedoneourwholeoftheprogrammingwiththehelpof
GUImethodbecauseitiseasierandmuchadvancetoolofstaad.
Themodeloftheframedstructureisgeneratedinstaad
bySnapNode/Beamdialogboxwhichappearswhenweselectthe
gridfromthetopmenubar.Thenthenodesandbeamsarecreated
bythiscommandatthesuitabledistancesasperourneed.

3.Assigningthematerial:Asaftercreatingthebeamsandcolumns
wewillassignmaterialtothemaswerequire.Ourdesignis
concretedesignhencewehaveassignedtheconcretematerialtothe
beamsandcolumns.
4.Specifyingmemberproperties:Thepropertiesofthebeamsand
columnsistheirsize(width,depthofcrosssection).Sowiththehelp
ofthiscommandwehaveinputtedthedifferentproperties(as
circular,rectangular,square)andassignthesepropertiesto
specifiedmembers.

5.Specifyingmaterialconstants:Asweassignedtheconcrete
materialsobydefaultwehavetheconstantsofconcreteandwe
dontneedtousethiscommandseparately.Orifweneedtochange
theconstantswecandosobythiscommand.
6.Specifyingmemberoffset:Asdefaultinthestaaddesignof
modelandafterassigningproperties,thestaadtakesthebeamsand
columnscentertocenterandifwewanttohavebeamsendtoend
overthecolumnsthenweuseBeamoffsetcommand.

a.Firstlycreatingalltheloadcases.
b.Thenassigningthemtorespectivemembersandnodes.
Thestaadprogramcanproducealltypesofloadsandcanassign
themtothestructure.Italsohasthecapabilitytoapplythedead
loadonthestructure.Therearesomedefinitionsofloadswhichare
firstlycreatedaccordingtoIScodesbeforecreatingspecificload
cases(AsSeismicorwindload).Herebelowaresometypesof
loadsaswehaveassigned.

11.PostAnalysisprintcommand:Aswerequireobtaining
memberendforcesandsupportreactionswrittenintheoutputfile.
Byclickingonpostanalysisadialogboxwillopenthenbyclicking
definecommand,wecanaddthecommandswhichweneedand
canassignthemtomembersforwhichthesewillbeanalyzed.
12.RunAnalysis:Thestructurewillbeanalyzedtotheloads
andthiscommandwillalsoshowifthereisanywarningorerror.
