Filling

1. Clean holes with compressed air before filling them

2. Filling should commence from holes near the edge of the material
3. Ter-Mite mix must be poured into holes within 10 minutes of mixing, sooner if air
temperature is over +15C
4. Use long stick to remove air pockets
5. Do not look into the holes for 10 hours after filling them!

Planning for application

1. Read user manual and safety instructions
2. Examine the hole pattern samples
3. Plan the process and make sure you have everything you need at hand
4. Plan and drill the required hole pattern. Basic principle to keep in mind: object to be cracked
must always have 1 or more free sides where it has space to expand and crack to.
5. Mix Ter-Mite with water
6. Pour Ter-Mite into holes
7. Wait until the material has cracked and the process has finished
8. Dismantle the cracked material and transport away if necessary

You can cover the holes with plastic cover or jute mats to contain any possible blow out

Filling horizontal holes: use injection pump and plug the holes to keep Ter-Mite in
If the object to be cracked is large, it is preferable to crack one line at a time, starting from
the free side
10. If the material is cracked before filling and you suspect Ter-Mite might leak out of the holes
or deeper into the material, use polyethylene tubing (sacking) to seal the hole. Insert tubing
prior to filling and pour Ter-Mite into the tubing normally. This method is also used if holes
are filled with water or are under water
11. First cracks usually appear after 10-20 hours (longer if the weather is cold). The cracks will
widen over time until the material breaks
12. When doing quarry work or when breaking large mass of rock you can use delayed filling to
work on many drilling lines at the same time. Start from the free side and fill each drilling line
with 6-12 hour delay. Fill up to 5 lines.

Drilling
1. Use appropriate drill for the job: recommended drill size 32-51mm A bigger drill (40-51mm)
will give best results (Ter-Mite expansive force increases with drill size up to 51mm). Drill size
of 27-30mm can be used to do modest jobs (use small hole spacing and allow more time).
2. Plan the hole-pattern according to the job. Think how you want the material to crack and
examine hole pattern drawings

Hole depth = Length of the hole (L) in respect to the object height (H). Ir. 0.8H = drill the
hole 80% through the object.
Kg/m3 = rough estimate on how many kg you will need to crack 1m3 of the material, lesser
number if machinery available to move the pieces and larger number if working by hand.

Mixing general
1. Use eye protection while working with Ter-Mite
2. Mix Ter-Mite in round, flat-bottomed metal or plastic 10 liter (2.6 US gallon) bucket. Do not
use glass containers
3. Mix by hand or with mortar mixer and wear gloves
4. Use 1.5 liters (0.4 US gallons) of clean water with 5 kg (11 lbs) of Ter-Mite: standard water
ratio to Ter-Mite is 30%. Do not exceed 34% water ratio (1.7 liters to 5 kg) [0.45 US
gallons to 11 lb]
5. You can use any clean water from a faucet, or even sea-water if clean
Mixing procedure
6. Pour 1.5 liters (0.4 US gallons) of water into mixing container and slowly add 5 kg (11 lbs)
of Ter-Mite
7. Mix until the solution is a smooth liquid
8. Use the mix before it hardens - do not reuse if hard

During summer, it is advisable to fill the holes early in the morning when material is still cool
Always use cold water during warm weather
During cold weather you can use mildly warm water
You may cover the holes to protect them from heat of the sun
Ideal temperature for use: Ter-Mite III: -5C to +20C, Ter-Mite II: +15C to +30C (material
temperature not air temperature)
6. During winter, you can use electric heaters and carry out the process under cover of a tent
7. When temperature is below 0C, add 1-2% of road salt (calcium chloride)

Read the package safety markings

Ter-Mite irritates the skin and respiratory tract and is very dangerous to the eyes
Use eye protection, rubber gloves and anti-dust mask (class P1 or P2)
When using indoors, make sure air ventilation is good or use a dust mask
Do not look into the holes while Ter-Mite is reacting Reaction can cause blow out which can
seriously damage your eyes
Rinse Ter-Mite off your skin with water
If inhaled, move to fresh air, and if breathing is difficult, contact physician
If you get Ter-Mite in your eyes, do not rub them. Immediately rinse eyes with clean water for
15-30 minutes and contact a physician
If swallowed, drink lots of water and contact physician
