S&T SCHOLARSHIP

President Benigno S. Aquino III has signed Republic Act (RA) No. 10612 that aims to provide scholarship and
teaching incentives for those who would pursue courses of science and technology (S&T).
The new law, entitled, Fast-Tracked S&T Scholarship act of 2013, was signed by President Aquino on August
23, 2013.
The State shall provide for scholarships to deserving science students and other specially-gifted citizens to
enable them to pursue higher education or training in the areas of science, technology or engineering, and to
provide incentives for them to become secondary school teachers, especially in their home regions, the new
law stated.
Among the qualifications for scholarship with teaching incentive include (a) Filipino citizen; (b) regular third
year college student at the time of award; (c) currently enrolled in any of the state universities or colleges, or in
private universities, especially in Commission on Higher Education (CHED)- compliant programs, under any of
the identifies priority S&T courses; (d) students with a general weighted average (GWA) of 83 percent or better
during their first and second year of college; and (e) should pass the Junior-Level Science Scholarship
Examination.
The scholars are mandated to teach as their return of service (ROS); and should agree to repay the amounts
disbursed plus interest pursuant to the terms of their service contract. Failure to comply with the terms of the
service contract will result n the full repayment (plus penalties, if applicable) of all award monies received
within a specified time, limit, it added.

LA SALLE GOLFERS

It was an all-La Salle show in Week 3 of the ICTSI- JGFP Inter-School golf competitions as La Salle- Zobel forged ahead
in both Midgets 2 and Girls 2 play while La Salle-Taft gained ground in Girls 1 action in various venues recently.

At the Valley Golf and Country Club Executive course in Antipolo, Miguel Ilas and Jolo Magcalayo combined for 38 and
34 points, repectively, for 72 pints that gave La Salle-Zobel a four point lead over Ateneo 1 in Midgets 2.

The La Salle Zobel 2 squad was nine points adrift at 63, Xavier was next at 60 and La Salle Greenhills fifth at 52 in the
tourney given major backing by the International Container Terminal Services, Inc and also supported by Pancake House
Groups, Sizzlin Pepper, Golf Depot, Teriyaki Boy, Pioneer Insurance and McDonalds.

Pauline del Rosario, the newly-crowned Junior World 13-14 years age-group champion, and Asian Youth Games gold
medalist Miya LEgaspi suited up for their respective schools in the girls 2 division played at the Ayalas Greenfield course
in Calamba. Laguna with del Rosarios La Salle Zobel ending up four points clear of Legaspis St.Paul Pasig, 101-94.

Legaspi, however, wound up winning the scoring duel with her 55 against del Rosarios 54. Mikhaela Fortuna backed up
del Rosario with a 47 while Annika Cedo could only deliver 39 for St. Paul, Pasig.

Paulina Sotto, carrying the colors of Ateneo, had a day-best 48 points in Girls 1 but didnt have a teammate that allowed
La Salle and Collge of St. Benilde to occupy the first two positions in Girls 1 action also at Ayala Greenfield.
