We all like travelling in order to meet new people and make new friends, to discover new cultures and civilizations and why not maybe
just to relax or pursue our hobbies, be them skiing, swimming, shopping, sightseeing. But we have all seen how hard it is sometimes
to decide where to go, once you have the country, many times you have no idea about what to see or do there, you do not know
anything about traditions or customs there or about what we call good manners and so on....You have just been hired by a local travel
agency, and your first task is to stimulate interest in visiting certain European countries. You've been told to create a travel brochure
highlighting the countries' historical, geographical, and cultural points of interest, with greater focus on the capital of each country. The
amount of people you can persuade to visit your country will greatly affect your position, and you may be fired if there aren't enough
tourists. Do your best!

In this WebQuest each group will research a European country for information that might appear in a Travel Brochure. In the process
of completing this assignment, each group will search information on the following aspects:- information about travelling there (coach,
plane, train....schedules, prices)- general information about the weather, location and geographical neighbours- capital and main
cities- language used- main cultural, touristic and natural attractions (at least 4)- find information about sightseeing, dining, hotels and
transportation in the capital of each country. So, what you have to do is to collect information on the particular aspects above that you
save in word documents on categories to make it simpler. Make sure you also save a map of the country plus dozens of pictures
illustrating the requirements above. Be organized and save everything into a folder named after your country. Once you have
collected your material start working on your travel brochure which will be done in Office Publisher. You will also have to design a
poster for that country, that you can make on http://edu.glogster.com/ .

PART 1- RESEARCH1. Get together in your groups. Talk about what you already know about the country of your group.2. Decide
upon the role of each member of your group (the researcher/ the secretary/ the editor/ the graphic designer/ the presenter) 3.
Collect the information, map and images into word documents and then a folder, in order to be better organized. (Dont forget to
mention all the sources used for the information or the pictures!)PART 2- THE TRAVEL BROCHURE1. Make sure that you revise the
information collected.2. Decide within your group what information to include in both the brochure and the poster. Remember that the
brochure has more extensive information and should be organized according to various
categories:      -transportation there (prices/ means of transport/
schedules)      - information on the climate, location and geography of that country, and capital and
main cities, as well as language used      - main cultural, touristic attractions in the capital
      - accommodation, eating and travelling in the capital3. Writing should be in complete sentences
with proper spelling, capitalization, and punctuation. PART 3- THE POSTERRemember that a poster usually includes a lot of visual
and not so much written information. Try to make your poster as attractive as possible, including pictures as well as video or sound
files. Your poster will have a catchy title, at least 5 attractions mentioned in texts and images and at least one video/sound file. PART
4- THE PRESENTATIONAs final step of your work, the spokesperson of your group will present to the rest of the class your country,
mentioning the main points of interest for a tourist (transportation, main attractions, accommodation and eating etc.)

The evaluation is meant to assess various aspects involved into the achievement of this collaborative task. What is mainly focused on
is the students' collaboration in researching  and collecting information as well as in organizing it for later use. Moreover, it is
important that the information presented in relevant to the task and that the students be organized and use clear, neat and attractive
layouts both for the travelling brochure and for the poster.

My dear students,I hope you have greatly enjoyed your virtual travel through Europe. It musthave been sometimes difficult to look for
the right information, or even toselect the accurate information to be used in the brochure and the poster. Butdespite being hard for
you, you all tried your best to achieve the task, whilealso working together and having fun as well. Moreover, now you are more than
ready to prepare any holiday, because you knowwhat aspects are to be taken into consideration when planning a trip andbecause
there are plenty of new things you now know about some of the mostbeautiful countries in Europe. Congratulations!

Lately I have got quite a lot of chances to

visit various European places and the thought occurred to me: why not give my
students the opportunity of doing the same, at least virtually? The webquest is
meant to stimulate their curiosity while expending their horizons beyond the
geographical confinements of the class.
The webquest is going to take around 2 weeks with the students also working at
home at collecting data, while the analyzing part and the selection and the
structuring of the information needed into the right kind of presentation and
layout will be done at school in groups.
