Fade In:
INT. SOUTHERN AIR TEMPLE - CONFERENCE ROOM - NIGHT
The Southern Air Temple elders lie on the floor crossed
legged in a circle of 6. Each one wearing Yellow robes and
have clean shaven heads that reflect the gleaming light
coming from the moonlight through a whole in the hut they
are.
MONK GYATSO
This is wrong. He is only a boy.
So his responsibilities should be
of a boy.
LEADER MONK
These are troubled times Monk
Gyatso. We require the Avatar.
Without him you know what will
happen to our people. We can only
prolonge the inevitable so much.
EXT. SOUTHERN AIR TEMPLE - OUTSIDE TRAINING COURT AFTERNOON - 6 HOURS EARLIER
AANG a petite yet slightly athletic looking boy is running
away with a big smile on his face, from a group of rag tag
teenagers that look slightly angry. The Rag Tag teenagers
try to throw balls of Air (with Air Bending)trying to push
AANG off balance while he is running away while sitting on
an Air Ball that he is uses to move around. AANG is clearly
proficient at Airbending dodging every one of their attacks
and laughing happily.
BOY 1
When I get you am going to end you
boy. (he drops onto the floor)
MONK GYATSO an old man with big emotionless aged eyes comes
into the shot at the oposite end of the court. He raises his
hand as a sign to stop the mischief, his expressions are
completely blank showing no emotion.
AANG out of absolute respect stops Airbending for a second
to get onto his feet. He takes out all of the rag tag boys
with his amazing Airbending skills. Once the short exchange
of airbending techniques had happens AANG turns around to
face Gyatso.
MONK GYATSO
Come with me Boy. Your future lies
in our next destination.

2.
Monk Gyatso walks towards the exit of the training court and
AANG follows slowly. AANGS body language expressed that of
concern.
AANG (V.O)
That was when my life changed
forever and I knew, what I had
been suspicious of all my life.
That I am....
CUT TO: INT - SOUTHERN AIR TEMPLE - ROOM - 4 HOURS EARLIER
AANG sits there on the floor of an empty room with one
window that shines a tiny creak of light into the room
enough for each person to know where the other is using
candles. AANG sat crossed leg in the middle of the room with
MONK GYTASO AND THE LEADER MONK are sat infront of him in
the same crossed leg position.
LEADER MONK
- the Avatar. I know this may seem
quite propostrous but you have
been known by the Southern Temple
elders for a while now. Since the
day of your birth to be precise.
AANG
I know I felt it ever since I was
very young. I could always feel
more than the Air. Yet I cannot
control it. Yet I feel the Air,
the water, and the earth. and the
fire talking to my senses.
A monk walks into the room with a wooden tray containing a
rock and a Bowl of water and a candle. He lays it inbetween
the gap between MONK GYATSO, the LEADER MONK and AANG. He
leaves the room quickly.
MONK GYATSO
It is not known for an Avatar to
be told of his responsibilities
before the age of 18. But tensions
have forced us to break tradition.
I may be against this in every
way, but one thing I cannot deny
is that we need the Avatar. Do you
see this Tray (points to the
tray). This will prove to us that
your the Avatar.
LEADER MONK
Bring your hand son.

3.
AANG put his hand onto the Large hand of the LEADER MONK
The LEADER MONK puts AANGS hand above the bowl of water in
mid air.
LEADER MONK (CONT'D)
Do you feel itAANG
Yes.
LEADER MONK
Now focus on that feeling. Try to
understand what it tells your
body. AANG prove to me that you
are the Avatar. Control iThe water begins to slowly rise from the bowl, then the
water quickly falls back down all over the tray.
INT. SOUTHERN AIR TEMPLE - CONFERENCE ROOM - NIGHT CONTINUED
While the Elder Monks continue to rebuttle about the idea of
AANG begininning his training as the Avatar. Aang sits above
the conference room listing and watching the whole dispute
through a hole in the roof. Aang just lays his eyes on Monk
Gyatso who is heavily defending the Idea to leave AANG as a
boy. AANG stands up and looks at the beach crying and
saddened by the voices in the hut.
EXT. SOUTHERN AIR TEMPLE - APPA'S PLACE OF RESIDENCE
Aang runs to Appa. Who lies there on the beach of the
Southern Air Temple. He jumps onto Appa's back.
AANG
(crying) Yip Yip
Appa sits there obviously telling AANG whether he is sure of
his departure
AANG (CONT'D)
Don't worry. This is better for
us. I don't want to be the Avatar.
Appa begins to fly away into the sky, until there is no sign
of Appa any where in the sky. Seconds after Appa and AANG
are out of sight. Horns of the FIRE NATION begin to blare,
and smoke begins to rise.
