ABOUT EEMUA
Who we are: EEMUA, the Engineering Equipment and Materials Users Association, is an
international non-profit membership organisation representing member companies across
a wide spectrum of industries: chemicals, food and pharmaceuticals manufacturing, both
upstream and downstream oil & gas exploration and production, power generation and
distribution, steelmaking, bulk storage & distribution, utilities, and more.
What our members have in common: All EEMUA member companies have industrial
assets to manage, and these are usually safety-critical assets and/or facilities that are critical to
a countrys national infrastructure.
Our aims: EEMUA aims to improve the safety, environmental and operating performance
of industrial facilities in the most cost-effective way, developing and promoting leadership in
industrial asset management.
Our work: EEMUA Members pursue these aims by sharing engineering experiences
and expertise, and by the promotion of their distinct interests as the users of engineering
products. EEMUA provides an organisation within which networking, information sharing
and collaboration among users on non-competitive technical matters can take place. The
Association works to inuence the way regulations are interpreted and applied in practice,
to promote members views to suppliers and others, to encourage the application of good
sound engineering practices, and to participate in the development of industry guidance,
training schemes and formal Standards.
Membership: Any organisation that is a substantial user or purchaser of engineering
products is eligible to apply to become a member of EEMUA. To apply for, or enquire about,
corporate membership of EEMUA, write to: enquiries@eemua.org
Our publications and training: As part of its work, EEMUA develops user guides,
specifications, training and competency schemes which it offers to both members and
industry in general. It is these publications and training schemes you will find described in
this catalogue. By purchasing and using the publications and training, you will be helping
directly to support the work of EEMUA. All income and resources of EEMUA are applied
solely towards furthering the aims of the Association for safe and effective industrial asset
management. No profit is transferred by way of dividend, bonus or otherwise to members.

Incidents of electrical shock, burns and arcing continue to occur during the
installation, commissioning, routine maintenance and testing of instruments,
instrument/control panels and control systems. This publication gives a
description of those electrical safety aspects which should be considered,
in a straightforward non-technical language, for use by technicians and
engineers alike.

This new EEMUA guide to risk based procurement covers quality assurance
of safety-critical engineering equipment and materials. It includes suggested
measures to assess risks and procurement recommendations and guidance.
There is also a discussion of the root causes of equipment or materials not
being fit for purpose and some examples of the problems experienced.

The new Third Edition reects the significant developments that have
occurred in subsea materials technology and operational experience since
the Second Edition was published in 2004. It provides an overview of the
current knowledge of the principles and practices of materials selection and
corrosion control for these facilities. The Publication is aimed at engineers
and others involved in the design, specification, commissioning, operation,
maintenance, repair or refurbishment of underwater oil and gas production
equipment and related facilities.

This publication has been prepared for users and contractors involved in the
procurement of process valves for operation in moderately cold conditions,
typically 0C to -50C, a temperature range typically not adequately covered
by existing low temperature standards. The guide covers recommendations
for design and functional requirements, materials, marking and testing.

Hot tapping, the term used when a branch is connected to a live or hot
piping system, is potentially hazardous particularly where ammable or toxic
uids are present. This publication offers guidance on how to carry out a
safe and successful operation when hot tapping into metallic piping systems
containing process uids or their residues. It covers overall planning of the
operation and includes hazard assessment and control, the constraints
imposed by the nature, temperature and pressure of the process uids,
welding, testing and cutting (drilling/trepanning).

This specification covers integral block and bleed valve manifolds for
direct connection to pipework, used as a replacement for individual block
and bleed valves at tapping points in piping systems and also in larger
arrangements for equipment and main process isolation. The aim of the
specification is to ensure that such installations are fit for purpose and of the
required integrity.

This handbook, first published in 1954 and regularly updated, gives guidance
on the design and general construction of factory stairways, ladders, access
platforms, ramps and handrails. It includes information on regulations and
standards, basic design and design methodology. The guide is intended for
use by engineers, architects and those responsible for specifying access
installations. Access equipment manufacturers and their subcontractors will
also find the guidance useful.

The Second Edition of this EEMUA guide specifies the design, fabrication,
preferred types and marking of lifting points on process plant in accordance
with European Directive 2006/42/EC on machinery, which came into
force in 2006. It defines the rated load for design for each lifting point
and recommends the safe working load for associated lifting gear and
applications. It is also a valuable guide for lifting and safe handling during the
installation, maintenance and dismantling of plant. It covers machinery,
sub-assemblies, components and equipment.

This publication is the first industry guide to address the primary aspects
of pressure relief system management throughout the full life-cycle, from
design through construction, commissioning and operation. It aims to fill the
gaps in current design guides and provide assistance in interpreting some of
the standards, code issues and topics that are known to cause difficulties.
The document provides an overview of the management of pressure relief
and links the design process with the operation and life-cycle issues which
are the concern of plant management.

This guide is a world first in defining best practice for double concrete
tanks. It should help to reduce project costs and improve quality. The guide
will help minimise the risk of mistakes during design, construction and
commissioning. It provides a clear basis for calculations for tank designers;
the tools for engineering contractors to evaluate quotations; and addresses
the quality of testing and examination required by constructors.

Under abnormal operating conditions, vertical fixed roof storage tanks may
experience rapid increases in vapour pressure which overwhelm venting
devices and lead to tank failure. This publication gives guidance to designers
and users of such tanks on the practical steps that can be taken in design,
operation and maintenance to predispose the roof-to-shell joint to fail
in preference to the shell-to-bottom joint, thereby ensuring retention of
the tanks contents. Such relatively weak roof-to-shell joints are known as
frangible roof joints.

The publication covers the demolition of tanks built to BS 2654, API 650, or
similar; of refrigerated tanks to BS 7777, API 620, or similar and of (LPG or
ammonia) column-supported storage spheres built to recognised pressure
vessel codes such as BS PD 5500 and ASME VIII. Reference is also made in
the text to UK statutory requirements governing such demolition work.
The publication is well illustrated with diagrams and photographs.

EEMUA Amendments
EEMUA publications may be revised and
updated from time to time and then published
as a new edition. Occasionally, EEMUA may
decide that an amendment should be made
without delay and not wait for a new edition.
In this case, an amendment is sent to the
last known address of the purchaser of the
relevant publication. The amendment is then
incorporated into the publication at the next
imprint of that edition.
The contents of all EEMUA Technical
Publications are developed and maintained
by Members of the Association - significant
purchasers and users of engineering
equipment and materials. The Association has
a reputation and history stretching back more
than 60 years.
