dissecting type to represent the theme of breaking in a digital format, sourcing influence
from the visual resarching in detracting letterformds of the type.

Bold bright colours where used to create impact and the colour orange signified a sense of
urgency and adventure which would engage the potential target audience to get involved

From the pitch feedback was given from agency Peter and Paul, on the design to make
it more diverse by exploring and developing the concept through different media and

Photography

Individual development for the brief experimented with altering type through a glithing
method to represent the idea of breaking. A series of digital experiments where created to
test the possible outcome of the new concept.

Photogrphy of breaking moulds where introduced to highlight the different media and
materials that could be used, suggested from the initial feedback.

Design Development

Materials

Typography

A series of media and materials where experimented with for the development of the
design from laser cut acrylic to plater cast mould of typography to genrate series of
outcomes and experimental typography. The breaking element was introdcued through
breaking the materials and arranging the type in a scattered format for impact.

Futura CG Bold was used for the process as the thick letter forms where practical for the
different materials that where used and for legibilty.
Colour
Experiments with colour and filters where also introduced to maintain impact and to stand
out amongst other year shows.

the design outcome.

A seclection of in context mock ups where designed to show how the end of year show

Studio Brief
The brief was to create a concept for an independant magazine that had a niche
subject considering the concept, audience, aesthetic, stratergy, lifespan and
progression. In collaboration with Collaboration - Sam Cook, Victoria Redmond,
Beth Dalzell, Jordan Harrison-Reeder.

Through research it was discovered that people love to read about other
peoples lives in a slightly voyeuristic manner. The magazine is a proposed
bi annual publication. This allows the content to be thoroughly researched
and considered. The magazine should be authentic and the stories and
interviews involved would be written by experiencing their life style.

Existing Publications

Antoine Bruys photography consisting of nature, colourful landscapes and

people within the off sight communities living off the earth was the imperative
influenced for the magazine cover.

Looking into publications that represented similar topics to Off The Grid,
generated natural tones of green and brown generated a sustainble approach to
the aesthetic of the magazine cover.

This imagery would provide the target audience with a visual representation of
what off the grid lifestyle is like and inform the of the habits in which they call
home.

The publications where heavily photography driven which was a signigying

aesthetic appraoch for the magazine, so that in would contextually and
aesthetically correlate with the purpose of the magazine.
