Subject: ALGOP Anti-Gambling Resolution
Executive Committee members,
The Steering Committee of the Alabama Republican Party unanimously passed on a roll call vote the
following resolution last Thursday. It addresses efforts currently being made to expand gambling in the
State of Alabama.
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you for your continued service to our Party

Alabama Republican Party Anti-Gambling Resolution

WHEREAS, the Alabama Republican Party has continually taken a principled and unwavering stand
in supporting efforts and candidates who work to protect the state’s values and make Alabama a
better place to live; and

WHEREAS, the Alabama Republican Party has also strongly opposed any group that seeks to
destroy or damage the Republican Party and its conservative candidates and office holders; and

WHEREAS, the Alabama Republican Party has taken a stand against the proliferation and
expansion of illegal gambling in this state; and

WHEREAS, the expansion of illegal gambling by any method, including so-called “local” bills, will
allow gambling forces in Alabama to strengthen their grip on state government; and

WHEREAS, Democrats have once again placed their desire to expand gambling at the top of the
legislative agenda; and

WHEREAS, Democrat Party Vice Chairman Paul Hubbert and gambling boss Milton McGregor
have joined together in an alliance to push for the passage of gambling legislation that will
significantly increase the flow of special interest money into the Democrat Party coffers; and

WHEREAS, this alliance will result in gambling interests serving, as the Alabama Education
Association does now, as a dues collection agency for the Democrat Party, and these dues will be
used toward defeating principled Republicans across the state; and

WHEREAS, the expansion of gambling via a local bill will give legislators an excuse to conveniently
dodge an opportunity to stop the expansion of gambling; and

WHEREAS, there are Alabama Legislators who are actively trying to derail efforts to enforce
existing laws against the expansion of illegal gambling in Alabama.

THEREFORE, Be It Resolved that the Alabama Republican Party hereby affirms its strong
opposition to the proliferation and expansion of illegal gambling in the state of Alabama; and
Be It Further Resolved that the Alabama Republican Party hereby expresses its appreciation and
gratitude to Governor Bob Riley and the Republican members of the Alabama Legislature who are
standing firm to protect conservative principles and to stop the liberal gambling forces that want to
control the political process; and

Be It Further Resolved that the Alabama Republican Party hereby serves notice of its intent to
publicly censure any Republican office holder or member of the Alabama Legislature who expresses
support or votes for any pro-gambling bills, including so-called “local” bills.
