Information Seeking Interview

1. What is your job like?

- What do you do? What are the duties/functions/responsibilities of your
job?
A: I am the Accountant of Cooperative Development Authority, Cagayan de
Oro Extension Office. I sign all processed vouchers and I prepare monthly,
quarterly, and year-end financial statements.
- What kinds of problems do you deal with?
A: Many to mention. Here are some of the problems I usually encounter.
Oftentimes, I have to be careful in checking the completeness of supporting
documents of various claims. Attitude-wise, some employees hesitate to
comply the lacking documents. Also, some employees do not give
importance to liquidation of cash advances. The CDA-Central offices
deadline of some reports is unreasonable.
2. What things did you do before you entered this occupation?
A: I prayed to God that He will bless me for this journey. Also, I reviewed my
government accounting book and I read COA and DBM issuances, rules and
regulations. I asked my CPA friends to help me if ever I will encounter
accounting issues.
- Which ones have been most helpful?
A: All of them. All things work for our good.
3. Are you optimistic about the company's future and your future with the
company?
A: About the agencys future, yes, it has excellent goal in transforming
society especially the oppressed and poor through the creation of a
cooperative. About my future with the company, I could not say absolutely
that I would stay with CDA throughout my career-life because I would
probably join the academe sector if I would find best opportunities. I would
love to inspire aspiring CPAs. True happiness would be achieved if you would
be an instrument in bringing happiness to others. I would be happy to see
students learning from me rather than sitting on a swivel chair in an office
the whole day preparing reports.

4. If your job progresses as you like, what would be the next step in your
career?
A: If Gods will, I would take Masters in Business Administration and Ph. D. in
Business Management so that I will qualify for higher vacant positions.
5. How did you prepare for this work? If you were entering this career today,
would you change your preparation in any way to facilitate entry?
A: There were many preparations but the most relevant one was the
education I got from my parents and school (elementary to college). I would
not change my preparation because if I would change it, I would not be the
same today and I would not learn from it. During my schooling days
especially tertiary, I ensured that I deeply understood every concept.
6. If you could do things all over again, would you choose the same path for
yourself? Why? What would you change?
A: Yes, I would choose the same path and I would not change anything. From
February 27, 2013-March 31, 2014, I worked at Provincial Government of Mis.
Or. and from June 2, 2014 to present, I am part of CDA- Region X. Because of
my experiences, I was able to create and define my desire to be an instructor
in a public state college/university someday. If not of these experiences, I
would not realize that I belong to academe.
7. What abilities or personal qualities do you believe contribute most to
success in this field/job?
A: I think these qualities are goal-oriented, perseverance, and giving
importance in keeping integrity.
8. Do you have any special words of warning or encouragement as a result of
your experience?
A: Think wisely in joining a career. It should be well-planned so that you
would not end up regretting. Choose the career that makes you happy. It is
not the salary that matters most. It is the self-fulfillment that makes you stay
in your job.
