EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In January 2011, KeTTHA officially launched its data centre showcasing an energy efficient design.

In contrast to the KeTTHAs previous generation data centre, the new Green Data Centre has demonstrated an
increased energy efficiency of more than 60 percent.

In view of the above, KeTTHA requested MGTC to explore initiatives that could further replicate KeTTHAs Green
Data Centre success story to other Ministries and Government agencies.

PROJECT PURPOSE/JUSTIFICATION

3.1

Business Need/Case

Green ICT is still new and a lot of promotion and awareness need to be carried out in order to send the message to the
industry and public. This project is aimed at greening the data centre since it can be a major contributor in reducing
carbon footprint.
3.2

Business Objectives

GreenTech Malaysia to become the leading body of expertise in green ICT and at the same time promoting the green
concept in ICT to the industry and government offices.

4.0

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

4.1

Project Objectives and Success Criteria

The objective of this project is to identify suitable organisations to replicate KeTTHAs Green Data Centre best practices via
systematic training of ICT administrators & practitioners aided by development of a Green Computing Resource Guide.
The major critical success factor of this is the final report of carbon reduction and energy saving for green data centre.

Requirements

The project needs to deliver the complete scope within the stipulated time frame, budget and with the available resources.
The project will be conducted with 3 trainings and 2 pilot projects identified at the end of the final training.

All project team members need to attend training regarding Green ICT to have better understanding in this field.
2 training modules and 1 module for workshop are essentials in the training planned for government offices.
GreenTech Malaysia energy audit team will be responsible to audit selected data centre.
Assumptions

The project planning and execution is based on the following assumptions:

Trainee are from IT background to understand the training.

There are prospective companies to offer their data centre for Green Data Centre pilot project.
The selected data centre is not in green methodology yet.
Preliminary Scope Statement

The project consists of the following high level scope to be carried out:

Training will be based on the 2 training modules and 1 module for workshop developed by GreenTech and technical
expert.

Review the methodological framework and consolidate data for the pilot project of Green Data Centre.

Apply the Green framework of server and guidelines for the energy saving analysis.

Data centre will be access in pre and post audit to generate complete report.

All necessary project management, data quality control and uncertainty analysis.
The following elements are NOT included in the project scope:

The building structure of the data centre will not have any changes.
Service of virtualisation will not be offered to the data centre.
RISKS

The following high level risks have been identified and need to be taken into consideration:

Cooperation of data centre operator. Certain areas in the data centre are prohibited.
Low awareness of Green ICT amongst the public and private sectors
PROJECT DELIVERABLES

The project will be considered complete if the following deliverables have been accepted:

2 trainings which are Green ICT for IT practitioners and Introductory to Green ICT for administrators.
1 workshop on Green Computing Facilities and Resource Guide.
Identify 3 pilot projects for green data centre.

PROJECT APPROVAL REQUIREMENTS

The project will be successfully completed once 3 pilot projects has been identified. It should be noted that every phase of the
project needs to be accepted and approved by the client before the next phase can proceed.

10.0

PROJECT MANAGER

The project manager (PM) assigned to this project is Mr.Amir Hamzah Mansora. The PM will have the overall responsibility
for the planning, execution and successful completion of the project. He will control the scope, schedule and budget of the
project and will assign resources where necessary.
He will obtain resources from the respective resources manager and will manage them for the duration of their involvement
on the project.
He will work closely with the procurement and expediting department to ensure the delivery of all reports in a timely manner.
He will oversee all phases of the project and is the primary contact with the client representative.
