Introduction

ThefollowingGanachakra(offering)practicehasbeentakenfromvarioussources:The
PujaprayerandoneprotectorsprayerfromtheLongchenNyingticcycle,the"SkyTrasury
Mantra"fromtheRiwoSangchoffering,variousTantricsourcesforthe"VajraVidarana
NamaDharani",theLineageSupplicationofthe"QuintessentialPithKilaya"ritualof
DzongsarKhyentseChokyLodr,aprayerofAuspisciousnesscomposedbyMipham,a
confessionritualfromaspirtualtreasurediscoveredbyDoKhyentseYesheDorje,the
Protector'spracticeofDudjomRinpocheandtheSutra"NobleStackofAuspisciousness".

GenerallyitistaughttoteachTantraonlytopeoplethathaverecievedempowermentand
soIconsideredifIshouldmakethismaterialavailablaatall.Ihavepracticedandstudied
withvariousLamassince1993andIwenttovariousVajrayanaSanghasandhadthe
opportunitytoinvestigatehowTantraistaughtbyhighlyqualifiedLamasinordertolearn
fromthem.InfactmanyhighlyrealizedteachersmadesimilarorthesameTantricmaterials
availablefortheinterestedvisitorOnecanlearnGuruYogaandadditionalMantrasby
publiclyavailablebooks,mantrasaretaughtbyLamasintheinternetandprotectortexts
wheremadeavailableforbeginners,evenwithoutaAbisheka.Inrelyingontheexampleof
thisLamasIcametomyownpointofviewregardsthequestionofsecrecy:Therestricted
materialiswhateverwouldbeessentialymisunderstood,leadingtoaversionorabuseof
theVajrayana.
Bythenatureofthematerialpresentedhere,Idonotseeadangertobemsiunderstoodin
awaythatwouldproducenegativekarma.Furtheritcanprovideasourceofimmensmerit
topracticethismaterialthereforeIdecidettomakeitavaialabletotheinterestedYogior
Yogini.

Allthesourcesofthisritualprovidehighlyeffectivemeansforaccumulatingmeritand
wisdom.Itistreasuretextsandinstructionsgivenforlineagesofenlightendbeings,they
areverypowerfullmeanstobenefitsentientbeingsandthereforeweshouldrespectthem,
likealltheteachingsofBuddha.Howdowecometotheconclusionthatthesepracticesare
autentic?Itisbyunderstandingexactlythispointitwasnoordinarybeings,thatcomposed
thisritualpractices,buthighlyaccomplishedmasters.ThecontentisdefinetlyBuddha
Dharma,astheirunderstandingofDharmahadasit'ssourcetheirwisdommindinunion
withtheBuddhas,aswellasthescriptualsourcesofthetransmittedTantricteachings,that
gobacktovisionaryrevelationsofmanyBuddhas.

Ganachakrapractice(alsocalled"Puja")meanstobringofferingstotheBuddhas,the
Boddhisatvas,theDakinisandcertainprotectors.Itcanbedonedailyatthebest,butatthe
leastonfullandnewmoondays.Ifwepracticeitweshouldcontributeamaterialoffering,

likesomefoodthenwemakeitinfiniteinourmindandofferallofexistence.Howcanwe
offerallofexistence,asweseemtobenotinposessionofit?Inrealityeveryoneofusis
thecreatorofhisorhersuniverse.Everythingwepercieveisanornamentofourown
mind'snatureandevenfurtherthanthat,inrealityweareallBuddhas,wejustdonot
percieveitthatway.Bythisviewitisentirelypossibletobringallofexistenceasoffering.
Whyshouldwethennotkeepexistenceforourself,butpresentingittoothers?Itisthat
selflessloveofBoddhicitta,theenlightendmind,whywewanttobenefitothersandwealso
understandthatonlywhenwegiveeverythingtoeveryone,wewillaccomplishBuddhahood
aswithoutthisselflesslove,wecanneverachivethestateoftotalenlightenment.Therefore
weoffer.AndasthisritualsaregoingbacktotheactivityofBuddhas,weaccumulatealot
ofblessingsbypracticinginthatway.

WhatisaProtectores(Dharmapalas)practice?Theprotectorsarepowerfullbeingsthat
vowtoprotectthetransmitionofBuddhaDharmaandtheyprotectalsothosethatcan
becomeasourceoftransmittingit.Bymakingofferingstothem,weaccumulatespiritual
merit,purifynegativekarmaandcreatealinktotheprotectors.Wewillintroducefour
protectorsinthepractice:Ekazati,Mahakala,Mahadeva(Shiva)andMahadevi(Shivas
wife,Parvati).

TheprotectressEkazaitisthewisdomwrathoftheprimordialBuddhaSamantabhadri,wich
istheMotherandQueenofalltheBuddhas.Therefore,inmyopinion,Sheisthehighest

asaids.Hersinglefangpircestheheartofthedemon.Sheisacompaniedbythesocalled
"Mamos",powerfullfemaleforces.

InthepresenttransmitionMahakalaisawrathfullemanationofAvalokiteshvara.Heisblack
andhasfourarmsandthreeeyes.

OfspecialinterestisthevenerationofShivaandParvatiasprotectors.Whileinaspecial
Tantricpracticetheseareseenasembodymentsofdualityandaretrampledupon,inthe
DharmapalaspracticeofDzongsarJhyentseChokyLodr,aswellasintheDharmapalas
practicebyDudjomRinpocheboth,MahadevaandMahadevi,aredescribedasprotectors
andembodimentsofAvalokiteshvarasactivity.Bothareverypowerfullbeingsanditisgood
totreatthemwithrespect,asalltheprotectors.

Thereissometraditiomthatemphazisesthatwe"commandtheprotectorstoact":This
mightbeawaytodothispracticeforenlightendbeings,whosestreamofbeingisgreatly
suffusedbythewisdomandqualityofthebuddhasintheperpectivethateverythingdawns
asgreatenlightenment.HoweverinthecaseofbeingslikeusIrecommendanother
understandingandrelationwithDharmaprotectorstobeappropiateweshouldseethem
aspreciousguidesthatwerespectfullyaskfortheirhelp.Likethisourrelationwiththe
Dharmaprotectorswillnotbecomeinapropiate.

ThePujaandDharmapalaspractice

Firstofallwecollecttheoffering.InthetraditionusuallyTormasandAmrita,blessed
objectsareusedfortheoffering.Butherewecanuseanythingtastyandbeautifulltothe
senseslikesweets,incense,water,juicecanbeused.Theofferingshouldcontain
somethingtoeatordrink.Insomesourcesitissaidthattheofferingfortheprotectors
shouldcontainalcoholandmeat,whilesomeLamasarestrictlyagainsttheuseofmeat,
outofcompassionfortheanimals.Afterwehavecreatedaniceofferingweshouldplaceit
infrontofarepresentationoftheBuddha,DharmaandSangha,likesomeimagesof
BuddhaandsomescripturesthatcontainDharma.Makeeverythingbeautifull,cosyand
inspiring.Throughoutthefollowingpracticeremainundistractedpresentinnatural,spacious
awareness.

Hisvajraheart:Uncuttable,indestructible,true,solid,firm,unobstructedinall,
unconquerableinall,terrifyingallsentientbeings,expellingallsentientbeuings,cuttingall
insightmantra,subduingallinsightmantra,subjugatingallactions,frighteningallthe
actionsofothers,banishingalldns,liberatingfromalldns,summoningallspirits,
engaginginperformingallactivityofinsightmantra,accomplishingtheunacomplished,not
exhaustingwhathasbeenaccomplished,grantingcompletlyallthatisdesired,protecting
allsentientbeings,pacifying,enriching,paralyzingallsentientbeings,STUNNING!
