GANA, NADI, BHAKUTA

Let us now see which Gana is suitable for the married of life of bride and groom. According to
astrology if the Ganas of bride and groom are same, then it is auspicious for marriage. If you
marry the person whose Gana is same as yours, then you will share a happy and compatible
relationship. If the gana of bride or groom is Devta and the other is Manushaya, then they will
share a happy married life. But if any of the two marries a person of Rakshas Gana then it can be
inauspicious. If you are born in Rakshas Gana, then you should marry the person of rakshas gana
koota.
Let us understand how to evaluate Ganakoota:

1. If the ganakoota of both bride and groom is devta, then they will get 6 points.

2. If the ganakoota of bride and groom is Manushaya, then also they will get 6 points.

3. If their ganakoota is Rakshas, then also they will 6 points.

4. If the ganakootas of bride and groom are Manushaya and Devta, then they will get 5
points.

5. If the ganakootas of bride and groom are Devta and Manushaya, then they will get 5
points.

6. If the ganakootas of both are Manushaya and Rakshas, they will get 1 point.

7. If the ganakootas of both are Rakshas and Manushaya then they will get 1 point.

8. If the ganakootas of bride and groom are Devta and Rakshas they will get 0 points.

9. If the ganakootas of bride and groom are Rakshas and Devta they will get 0 points.

Gana Dosha does not occur in following situations:

1. If the lords of both the signs are friends.

2. If the lords of signs of both bride and groom are same.

3. If the lords of both the navmansh share a friendly relationship.

4. If the lords of both the navmansh are similar.

Gana represents the temperament of the person & it is very important during
matching of girl's horoscope with boy's horoscope for marriage purpose . In
Kalaprakasika Gana compatibility is must for Kshatriyas . It is considered good if
both the girl & boy are of Dev Gan or Manushya Gan or one is Dev & orther is
Manushya Gan . Manushya or a Dev boy should not marry a Rakshas girl unless
there are other neutralizing factors . However marriage between a Rakshas boy & a
Dev or Manushya girl is possible . If marriage is brought about between prohibited
Ganas there will be quarrels & disharmony .
Cancellation of Gana Dosh :
1) If the bride's star ( birth Nakshtra ) counted from that of the boy is above 13 , the
evil effect will be warded off & their horoscopes can be matched .
2) If the Janam Rashis of the couple isthe same or if the lords of the Janam Rashis
either happen to be friends then the horoscopes can be matched .

Gana of a person is determined from his or her birth Nakshtra . There are 27
Nakshtras & below I will give details on Nakshtra & Gana

1) DEV GANA :
Person who are borh in Ashwini or Mrigshira or Punarvasu or Pushya or Hasta or
Swati or Anuradha or Sravan or Revathi Nakshtra are said to be Dev Gana .

2) MANUSHYA GAN :
Person who are borh in Bharni or Rohini or Ardhra or Poorvaphalguni or Utraphalguni
or Purvashada or Uttraashada or Poorvbhadrapada or Uttrabhadrapada are said to
be Manushya Gana .

3) RAKSHAS GAN :
Person who are borh in Krithika or Ashlesha or Magha or Chitra or Vishakha or
Jyeshta or Mool or Dhanishta or Satabisha are said to e Rarkshas Gan .

NADI DOSHA

Nadi is one of the important Kootas in matching making for the purpose of marriage in Vedic
Astrology . It indicates health compatibility & out of 36 points in marital match making 8
points are given to Nadi . Nadi has given maximum points and hence regarded as the most
important factor by astrologers. The Nadi disagreement between two is called as Nadi Dosha
and generally regarded as the strict no for the marriage.
There are three different Nadis Adi / Adhya / Aadh (start), Madhya (middle) and Antya (end)
and they represent "Prakriti" of an individual that is his/her body constitution. As per
Ayurveda there are three different Prakritis- Vaat , Pita & Kapah The Nadi Adi, Madhya and
Antya Nadi are equivalent to Vaat , Pita & Kapah respectively . The exact Nakshatra based
classification is as follows

1) ADI / Adhya / Aadh Nadi : People born in Ashwani , Ardhra , Punarvasu ,

Uttaraphalguni , Hasta , Jyeshta , Moola , Satabisha & Poorvabhadrapada have Adi Nadi .

2) Madhya Nadi : People born in Bharani , Mrigasira , Pushya , Poorvaphalguni ,

Chitra , Anuradha , Poorvashadha , Dhanshita &
Uttarabhadrapada have Madhya Nadi .

3) Antya Nadi : People born in Kritika , Rohini , Aslesha , Magha , Swati , Vishakha ,
Uttarashadha , Sravana & Revati Nakshtras have Antya Nadi .
Nadi Dosha exists if proposed husband and wife are having same Nadi. Scientifically
speaking having same Prakriti means their offspring will be physically weaker. If Nadis of
proposed husband and wife are different it is only then marriage is recommended so they may
have physically stronger children. However it is not accurate to reject a proposal for marriage
just because the girl & boy have same Nadi as in the Shastras its mentioned that if Nadis are
same then also some other things are to be watched and then the result should be predicted.

Below are some points to be checked .

1) The Rashi of male & female are same but the Nakshatra are different, then no Nadi dosha.
2) The Nakshatra are same and the Rashis are different, then no Nadi dosha.
3) The Rashis are same and Nakshatras are same but the pada of Nakshatra are different then
no nadi dosha.
4) The 5th House of Lagan kundali of both girl & boy should be checked as House No-5 is
considered house of Children .
5) The placement of Jupiter in both girl & boy's horoscope should be checked . Jupiter is
considered as Putrakarak planet
These points are to be very carefully watched and then only take any decision should be made
.

REMEDIES FOR NADI DOSHA :

If the nadi dosha is present and it is very necessary to get married to the same person , in this
situation one can get the Mahamrityunjaya mantra japa done and give the Brahmin a swarnanadi, grains, cloth and cow. After this the marriage can be done even if Nadi Dosha is present.

SAMPLE HOROSCOPES FOR NADI DOSH :Respected readers you can check the below
analysis however always consult astrologer if there is Nadi Dosh while matching horoscope . As
in many cases nadi dosh is canceled however still we suggest if the two should proceed with
marriage or not ....it depends upon Rahu , Ketu , & placement of other planets .

BHAKUT DOSHA

Moving on to Bhakut Dosh, if Moon Signs in the natal horoscopes of Male and Female are
making a combination of 6-8, 9-5 or 12-2 with each other, Bhakut Dosh is said to be formed. For
example, if Moon sign of the Male is Aries and that of the Female is Virgo, then Bhakut Dosh of
6-8 is said to be formed as the Moon Sign of Female is sixth counted from Moon Sign of Male
and the Moon sign of Male is eighth counted from Moon sign of Female. Similarly Bhakut dosh
is considered for 9-5 and 12-2 placements of Moon signs. It is said that the Bhakut Dosh of 6-8
can cause death to either of the partners, Bhakut dosh of 9-5 can cause delay, denial or loss of
progeny and Bhakut Dosh of 12-2 can cause poverty. However, Bhakut Dosh is said to be
nullified if any of the following conditions is observed :
If the Lord of Moon Signs is the same, Bhakut dosh is said to be nullified. For example 6-8
Bhakut dosh is said to be nullified in case of Aries-Scorpio and Taurus-Libra and 12-2 Bhakut
dosh is said to be nullified in case of Capricorn-Aquarius.
If the Lord of Moon Signs are friendly with each other, Bhakut Dosh is said to be nullified. For
example, Pisces-Aries and Aries-Sagittarius.

Cancellation of Bhakut Dosha

Bhakut Milan comprises of three types of Doshas. These are Shadashtak, Nav Pancham and
Dwi-Dwardasha doshas.

Cancellation of Shadashtak dosha

Friendly Shadashtak occurs if the signs of groom-bride are Aries-Scorpio, Taurus-Libra,

Gemini-Capricorn, Cancer-Sagittarius, Leo-Pisces or Virgo-Aquarius. It also occurs if the
Lords of these signs are friendly to each other. Shadashtak of friendly signs is considered
to be auspicious

Shadashtak should be cancelled if it is not friendly and the Lords of the signs are enemies
to each other

Signs which are enemies to each other and result in an inauspicious Shadashtak are AriesVirgo, Taurus-Sagittarius, Gemini-Scorpio, Cancer-Aquarius, Leo-Capricorn and LibraPisces

Shadashtak dosha is cancelled if the sign is pure. The same happens if the signs are
friendly to each other. Shadashtak dosha is also cancelled if the bride and the groom have
the same sign and the Lords of the sigs are the same

Cancellation of Nav Pancham dosha

Cancellation of Nav Pancham dosha has been talked about in shastras. Nav Pancham dosha is
formed when the signs of the bride and groom are 5/9 axis from each other.

Nav Pancham is considered to be auspicious if the groom signs is fifth from the brides
sign and the brides sign is ninth from the grooms sign

Nav Pancham dosha should be cancelled with a combination of either Pisces-Cancer,

Scorpio-Cancer, Gemini-Aquarius or Virgo-Capricorn

Nav Pancham dosha is cancelled if the signs or navanshpati of the bride and groom are
friendly to each other

Cancellation of Dwi-Dwardasha dosha

A bride may incur monetary losses if the brides sign is second from the grooms sign.
She helps in gaining wealth if her sign is twelfth from the grooms sign

This dosha is cancelled if the Lords of signs of the bride and groom are friendly to each
other

According to scholars, with the presence of Leo and Virgos Dwi-Dwardasha, this dosha
is cancelled

Cancellation of Nadi dosha

Nadi dosha is cancelled in a lot of different ways :

This dosha is cancelled if both bride and groom have the same sign but different Janma
nakshatra

It is also cancelled if both have the same Janma nakshatra but different signs

Nadi dosha is also cancelled if both have the same Janma nakshatra but different Charan

According to shastras, doshas are categorized on the basis of castes, i.e, Nadi dosha for
Brahamana, Varna dosha for Kshatriya, Gana dosha for Vaishya and Yoni dosha for
Shudra.

According to Chintamani astrology, Nadi dosha is cancelled in the presence of Rohini,

Mrigshira, Ardra, Jyeshtha, Kritika, Pushya, Shravan, Rewati and Uttarabhadrapad
nakshatras

Nadi Dosha & Chart Matching

In Vedic astrology marriage match is done primarily by matching the Nakshatra
of a body and a girl. In North India this Nakshatra based match is called

Ashtakuta Guna Milap or 36 point match. Following eight (Ashta in Sanskrit)

agreements are generally observed 1.
Varna (for Work compatibility, point allotted - 1)
2.
Vashya (for Dominance compatibility, point allotted - 2)
3.
Tara (for Destiny compatibility, point allotted - 3)
4.
Yoni (for Mentality compatibility, point allotted - 4)
5.
Graha Maitri (for General compatibility, point allotted - 5)
6.
Gana (for Guna-level compatibility, point allotted - 6)
7.
Bhakoota (for Love compatibility, point allotted - 7)
8.
Nadi (for Health compatibility, point allotted - 8)
The above compatibility is based on the Nakshatra occupied by Moon in
proposed husband's and wife's chart. This test takes a deeper look at the
compatibility between two psychological, spiritual, physical and sub-conscious
level. As you can see from the above table, Nadi has given the most points and
hence regarded as the most important factor by astrologers. The Nadi
disagreement between two is also called Nadi Dosha and generally regarded as
the strict no for the marriage.
There are three different Nadis Adi (start), Madhya (middle) and Antya (end)
and they represent "Prakriti" of an individual that is his/her body constitution.
As per Ayurveda there are three different Prakritis, vz Kaph, Vaat and Pita and
Adi, Madhya and Antya Nadi are equivalent to that only. The exact Nakshatra
based classification is as follows

Antya Nadi

Madhya Nadi

Adi Nadi

(Kapha)

(Pitta)

(Vata)

Kritika

Bharani

Aswini

Rohini

Mrigasira

Ardra

Aslesha

Punarvasu

Magha

Poorvaphalguni

Uttaraphalguni

Visakha

Anuradha

Jyehsta

Uttarashadha

Poorvashadha

Moola

Sravana

Dhanshita

Satabisha

Revati

Uttarabhadrapada

Poorvabhadrapada

Nadi Dosha exists if proposed husband and wife are having same Nadi.
Scientifically speaking having same Prakriti means their offspring will be
physically weaker. If Nadis of proposed husband and wife are different it is only
then marriage is recommended so they may have physically stronger children.
So how important is Nadi dosha in my opinion? I personally don't give much
importance to Nadi Dosha as given by astrologers generally . In my opinion

overall analyis of horoscope should be given precedence over than Nadi dosha.
For example, 5th house represent the children in a horoscope and Jupiter is
putrakaraka. An astrologer should analyze the 5th house and putrakaraka of
both the charts and if these are strong, there is no need to worry about Nadi
dosha. Nadi dosha is a quick method but I think the detailed and more accurate
method (horoscope analysis) should be given more importance.

RULES FOR MATRIMONIAL

Rules for Matrimonial Compatibilty

(1) Sacred Bondage(Rajju)

The first and foremost aspect is the compatibility of Rajju,a sanskrit word
meaning sacred Bondage.According to Hindu rites, the bridegroom ties the
sacred cord in the neck of the bride with three knots or wears a gold chain in
the neck of the bride as a mark of accepting her as the licensed wife. Thus the
boy and the girl are bonded together for living as husband and wife for
good. This bondage is regarded as a sacred one.
The Rajju is classified into five parts. They are (1) Siro Rajju meaning ForeHead portion (2) Ganda Rajju meaning Back head portion (3) Uthara Rajju
meaning Top portion of the body(4)Thodai Rajju meaning the portions around
the Thighs and (5) Pada Rajju meaning the portion below the knee . Each
nakshatra falls into the category of one of the above five parts.
If the nakshatras of the boy and the girl fall in the same part, then the
matrimonial alliance is declined outright. No reliefs or remedies are
entertained to the non-compatibility.
(2)Sexual type
The nakshatras possess sexual organs and sexual habits of
creatures.Creatures of a similar type will have greater sexual compatibility
than those which are radically dissimilar and which are naturally inimical to
each other. For example,a rat would not be happy if married to a cat and a
deer to a Tiger or Lion.
If the nakshatras of the boy and the girl are Janma Enemies/Opponents,then
the matrimonial alliance is declined outright. No reliefs or remedies are
entertained to this non-compatibility.

(3)Species(Ganam)
The Nakshatras are classified into three grups on the basis of the species
namelyDivineNakshatras(Devata),Human Nakshatras (Manushya) and
Demonic Nakshatras (Rakshasa).
If the nakshatras of the boy and the girl belong to the same species,it is highly
compatible.Combination of Divine and human nakshatras are medium.other
combinations are inauspicious and not compatible.
(4)Nakshatra (Birth Star) Compatibility
(1) Counting is done from the nakshatra of the girl in order upto the nakshatra
of the boy. This counted number is divided by 9 and if the remainder is 3 or 5
or 7,then both the nakshatras are not compatible to each other.
(2) If the boy and the girl possess the same nakshatra, then matrimonial
compatibilty is available
(i) if the parts of the nakshatra are not one and the same for both of them
(ii) if the part of the nakshatra of the girl falls in one Rashi (constellation) and
the part of the nakshatra of the boy falls in another rashi (constellation),the
part of the nakshatra of the boy should precede that of the girl.
(iii) Rohini,Ardra,Magha,Hasta,Vishaka,Shravana,Uttara Bhadrapada,Revathi
possess excellent compatibilty.
(iv) Ashvini,Krittika,Mrigashirsha,Punarvasu,Pushya,Purva Phalguni,Uttara
Phalguni,Chitra,Anuradha,Purva Ashadha,Uttara Ashadha possess average
compatibilty.
(v) All other nakshatras do not possess compatibility.
(2) if the nakshatra of the girl and the nakshatra of the boy falls in the same
rashi (constellation), the nakshatra of the boy should precede that of the girl.If
the nakshatra of the girl is one among the following 8 nakshatras namely
Ashvini,krittika,Rohini,Magha,Hasta,Swati,Purva Ashadha,Shatabisha, the
nakshatra of the girl may also precede that of the boy.
(5) Sthiri Theergam
Sthiri Theergam indicates the death of the wife before that of the
husband, especially after living a happy or satisfied married life. This is
considered as auspicious and blissful for a woman.
Counting is done from the nakshatra of the girl in order upto the nakshatra of
the boy.If this counted number is not less than 7,then Sthiri Theergam

compatibility is available. If this counted number is more than 13,then Sthiri

Theergam compatibility is excellent.
(6) Mahendram
Mahendram means accumulation of wealth.Counting is done from the
nakshatra of the girl in order upto the nakshatra of the boy.If this counted
number is 4-7-10-13-16-19-22-25,then Mahendram compatibility is excellent.
(7)Rashi (constellation) compatibility
If Counting is done from the rashi (Constellation) of the girl in order upto the
rashi (Constellation) of the boy and if the counted number exceeds 6 ,then
Rashi(constellation) compatibility is excellent.
(8) Compatibility of the Rulers two rashis (Constellations)
If the Rulers two rashis (Constellations) are friends, the compatibility is
excellent.
If the Rulers two rashis (Constellations) are Neutral, the compatibility is
Average.
If the Rulers two rashis (Constellations) are Enemies, the compatibility is poor.
(9) Natural attraction (Vasya)
Certain Rashis (Constellations) have natural attractions towards vertain other
Rashis. This tendency is found in the following ways. Natural attraction
between Rashis (Constellations) of the boy and the girl promotes close
affinity with each other.
(10) Nadi (Pulse)
Nadi means Pulse.Planets which occupy by a nakshatra have their nature
influenced by that nakshatraspulse, which is its Ayurvedic Consttitution. If the
nakshatra of the girl and the nakshatra of the boy falls inthe same Nadi, then
there is no Compatibility.
(11) Inauspicious combinations of Nakshatras (Vedai)
There are certain combinations of nakshatras which do not promote marital
harmony. The nakshatra of the girl and the nakshatra of the boy should not
have the following combinations.
(12) Kuja Dosha (Blemish of Mars)
When Mars occupies the houses 1,2,4,7,8,12 kuja dosha occurs in a
horoscope.it is counted from (i) Lagna (ascendant ) (ii) Moon and (iii)
Venus. When Mars recurs in all these three positions ,it is virulent.

Mangala is a name for Mars.Kuja dosha does not promote marital harmony
and indicates marital misery.Exceptions to Kuja Dosha are:
(1)Any one who has Kuja Dosha can safely marry anyone else who also
a Kuja dosha of approximately equal strength. The two combinations will
cancel each other out.

has

(2) Mars reaches maturity at the age of 30 years.therefore, anyone who has a
Kuja Dosha will be acquitted or relieved from the Kuja Dosha on reaching the
age of 30 years.
(3)Mars in its own or exaltation constellation cancells the dosha or greatly
modifies the Dosha position.
(4)The prescence of Moon in the house Mars occupies, cancels Kuja Dosha.
(13) Lagna(ascendant)
Lagna indicates the insight into the mind of a person, the lines of thinking and
the way of approaching .Therefore, the Lagna of the boy and that of the girl
should be in Kona (1-5-9) or in Kendra (1-4-7-10) places to each other. when
the Lagna of the boy and that of the girl happens to be in the 7th position to
each other, the compatibility is excellent and there cannot be any difference of
opinion between the two and the thinking of the two sail together. So,when the
Lagnas of the boy and that of the girl are in 3-6-8-12 places to each other or
more particularly,if they are in 6-8 places to each other, the boy and the girl do
not possess identitical minds or thinking.Unless other factors favourably and
strongly recommend the proposition of marriage, the 6-8 position of the Lagna
would not reconcile.
.
(14) Rulership Period of the Planets (Dasha)
Dasha indicates the rulership period of the Planets which dictate by turns in
an established order. The events in the course of the life of a person is
determined by the period of rule of Planets. The events in a mans life is
scheduled and sequenced in a period of time. So,one has to find out whether
the current period of rule of a planet pave the way for a concrete future
towards the marriage proposal and whether the periods of rule of the
succeeding planets in future are reconciled to the advantage of the couple. If
the boys horoscope indicated good dasha throughout his life and if the girls
horoscope indicated bad dasha, the fortunes of the boy are blocked or slowed
down.i.e.When a cart is pulled by two bullocks, both the bullocks should go in
the same direction for a smooth and safe travel. If one of them is lame or slow
or unhealthy or pull in a different direction or does not cooperate, the match is
not perfect.
(15) Blessing of Children

It is natural that the couple has to give birth to child or children for inheritance
and to be taken care of in the later stages in life.A Child act as a hinge
between the mother and the father and binds them together in any
eventuality. This aspect is seen by the placement of the planets in the 5th
place, the ruler of the 5th place, the natural significator Jupiter and other
planetary aspects.If a malefic planet influences the 5th place,particularly,the
blessing of children,in both the natal horoscopes of the boy and the girl, then
the compatibility is very carefully arrived at.If a misfortune is foreseen and if
there is no possibilty of a remedy or relief, there is no compatibility at all.
(16)Tree
The nakshatras possess Characteristic features of Trees.Trees of a similar
type will have greater compatibility than those which are radically dissimilar
and which are naturally inimical to each other.
(17)Birds
The nakshatras possess habits of Birds.Birds of a similar type will have
greater compatibility than those which are radically dissimilar and which are
naturally inimical to each other.
(18)Kalathira Dosha
The seventh house Lord when sits in the house of the Lagna and aspects its
own house, Kalathira dosha emerges. This means, there owner of the
horoscope has two spouses. There may be one side love or love failure or last
minute cancellation of the marriage or death of spouse or divorce or
separation, etc. This has to be reconciled with an appropriate horoscope in
matching.
(19) Kala Sarpa Yoga (The serpent of time)
When all the seven planets from the Sun through Saturn are situated in
between Rahu and Ketu,it is called Kala Sarpa Yoga. This creates difficulties
on (1) the house ruled by any planet which is conjoined by either Rahu or ketu
(2) the houses ruled by one or both of the dispositors of Rahu and ketu and
(3) the houses Rahu and ketu occupy.
(20) Bhava(malefic effects)
Jupiter and Venus are Natural Benefics.Saturn,Mars,Rahu and Ketu are
Natural Malefics.Sun is cruel. Moon is Natural Benefic when waxing.i.e.when
moving from New to Full.Otherwise,it is a Natural Malefic.Mercury is a Natural
Benefic when associated with the Natural Benefics and Natural Malefic when
associated with the Natural Malefics.

(1) When Malefic Planets occupy the houses 1,2,4,7,8,12 counted from (i)
Lagna (ascendant) (ii) Moon and (iii) Venus, the malefic effect is 100%
(2) If Mars sits in the 12th house, the Malefic effect is 25%
(3)For Rulership of Malefic Planets, the Malefic effect is 50%
(4)If the Ruler of the house in which the Malefic Planet sits is
(i) in an Exalted Position, then the Malefic Effect is 75%.
(ii)A friend,then the Malefic Effect is 25%.
(iii)An Enemy, then the Malefic Effect is 100%.
(iv)In a Debilitated Position, then the Malefic Effect is 125%.
When the Bhava(malefic effects) of the Girl and the Boy is in the ratio 1:2,the
Compatibility is excellent.
The Feminine nakshatra
This category has Uttrasadha, Ashlesha, Purvafalguni, uttrafalguni, Purvasadha,
Dhanistha, Bharani and Vishakha nakshatra.
The Masculine nakshatra
Ashwini, Rohini, Pushya, Purvabhadrapada, Uttrabhadrapada, Hasta, Shravan,
Anuradha, Punarwasu and Magha are masculine nakshatra.
The neutral nakshatra
The Mrigashira, Mula and Shatavisha nakshatra are neutral gender.
According to South Indian astrological method it is auspicious if the boy and girl have
same nakshatra gender as their own gender. Different nakshatra genders may create
difficulties in the couples married life.
Lets discuss some other methods of future predictions from gender varga of nakshatra.
While matching the kundlis if the brides nakshatra is feminine and the grooms is
masculine then the couple will get wealth and assets. But if the brides nakshatra is
masculine and the nakshatra of the groom is masculine gender then the married life
may not be happy and peaceful.
If both the couple has feminine nakshatra then wastage of money may happen in their
married life. Astrology says that it is very auspicious if the bride and groom has neutral
nakshatra. In this way if the grooms nakshatra is in neutral gender and the brides
nakshatra is a feminine one then it said to be a normal situation as the couple get
normal financial benefits.
Astrology says that while matching couples kundli for marriage special attention must
be given on the gender of the nakshatra. For a wealthy and happy married life your
grooms nakshatra should be masculine and yours a feminine nakshatra. If you are a
male person then vice versa is required. By following these principles of vedh vargh a
native may have a happy and peaceful married life.

Koota-Guna Matching Chart

The following Koota matching chart, based on the highly reliable South Indian Dasa Koota system, will
give you the matching compatibility score of the boy and the girl. For this you need the Nakshatra or
the birth star of the boy and the girl. If you dont know the Nakshatras, you can check by using the
free Nakshatra calculator or the free birth chart calculator provided on this site.
Before you start jumping to any conclusions, let me tell you that for marriage purpose both the
horoscopes must be thoroughly matched by an experienced astrologer. This is done based on the
planetary combinations of the ascendant or lagna, all the 9 planets, the nakshatra or birth star based
koota/guna matching, mangala dosha and also the navamsa charts matching. Marriage is a life long
association and must be taken seriously.
However to get a rough general idea you can check the matching of the Five Astro-signs the sun
sign, the rasi or moon sign, the lagna or ascendant and the nakshatra based koota/guna matching and
also the Chinese sign.

The matching is always done from the girls Nakshatra to the boys Nakshatra. Check the girls
Nakshatra vertically down and match it with the boys Nakshatra given along the same row. For
example, if the girls Moon is in Aries and in the Nakshatra Krittika 1st quarter and the boys moon is
in Libra and Chitra 3rd quarter, you note the star# of both, from list of Nakshatras. The girls
Nakshatra is #3 & the boys is 14. From the girls Nakshatra # 3 in the vertical list check along the row
till you come to the boys Nakshatra #till you come to the column under the boys Nakshatra #. In this
case the Koota Matching score is 27 points, or 27 Gunas.
A Guna matiching score of 18 is the minimum required for compatibility. The higher the score, the
better it is. Please note that this Guna matching is not the only thing for astrological marriage
matching. You need to get the horoscopes matched by an experienced astrologer.
