SCOPE
This specification defines the minimum requirements according to which the
manufacturer shall design, manufacture, test and supply of Pressurization /
Ventilation system for various rooms.

DESIGN CRITERIA

(i)

The following design parameters shall be used :

In pressurization system, air quantity shall also be calculated on the basis of 3C


temperature rise above ambient air & higher of the two shall be offered. The
design of pressurisation system shall be such as to maintain a positive pressure
of 50 Pascal inside the room with respect to outside.
(ii)

Dedicated Exhaust fan shall be provided for battery room. Minimum 20 air changes / hr
shall be provided. MOC of fan impeller & casing shall be suitable for corrosive
atmosphere due to battery generated fumes. The fans shall be FRP coated explosion
proof. Exhaust fans for Battery rooms shall have flameproof motors.

(iii)

Air intakes shall be located in non-hazardous and chemical fume free areas.

(iv)

Pressurization shall be designed for continuous duty. The system shall have three
blowers (2W+1S/B) for Switch Gear Rooms.

(v)

The system shall be provided with dry synthetic material filters (90% down to 10
microns with dust arresting capacity of 65-80%), relief dampers, fresh air intake
louvers with bird protection screen, ducting with grilles, instruments / controls,
associated civil, electrical & structural work.

4.0

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

(i)

Centrifugal Fan
a)

The centrifugal fan shall be of DIDW type.

b)

Fan casing shall be of heavy gauge steel volute chamber, rigidly


reinforced and supported by structural angles to prevent drumming. The
joints shall be permanently sealed air tight.

c)

Larger size fans shall have split casing.

d)

The fan impeller shall have die-formed backward curved blades welded to
the rim and back plate to have a smooth contour. If required, intermediate
stiffening rings shall be provided. The Impeller shall be statically and
dynamically balanced according to ISO standard.

e)

Fan inlet screen, shall be galvanized wire mesh of 25 mm square.

f)

The rotor assembly shall be dynamically balanced.

g)

Critical speed of fans shall be atleast 20% above operating speed.

h)

Torque-speed characteristics of fan and motor shall be matched.

i)

Bearings shall be shielded against direct ingress of dust.

j)

Bearings housed in plumber blocks shall be grease lubricated and of air


cooled design. Nipple for greasing shall be provided.

k)

Fan & driver shall be bolted rigidly on a common steel structural frame
grouted on a precast concrete block floating on neoprene vibration
isolators.

l)

All supports, brackets, gaskets, foundation & fixing bolts etc. shall be
supplied by vendor.

m)

Volume control damper of multilouvred type (back draft damper) & flame
resistant canvas connection with metallic flanges shall be provided at fan
outlet.

n)

Taper lock pulleys shall be provided with wedge type antistatic belts for
drive.

Axial / propeller Fan


a)

Fans shall be heavy duty Industrial type suitable for continuous operation.

b)

Fan impeller shall be in metallurgy suitable for the fluid being handled.
High efficiency aerofoil section multibladed impeller shall be used.

c)

Impeller shall be statically and dynamically balanced on a precision


machine to minimize noise & vibration.

d)

Fan shall be suitable for mounting in wall. Casing shall be all welded sheet
metal construction with flat iron flanges on both sides. Fixed type guide
vanes shall be provided with the fan unit.

e)

Fan shall be suitable for direct mounting on motor. Fan speed shall
preferably be selected below 1500 RPM.

Air Distribution Ducting, Diffusers / Grilles


a)

Air intake into blower rooms shall be by provision of suitable opening in


the wall through louvers with bird protection screen.

b)

All ducts shall be made of galvanized steel conforming to grade 200 of IS277 1992 or equivalent. The zinc coating on the steel shall not be less
than 200 GSM

c)

Ducts shall be designed, fabricated and flanged as per IS-655 for static
pressure upto 65 mmwg. Incase, the static pressure is more than 65
mmwg, SMACNA code shall be followed for design and fabrication of duct.

d)

Duct shall be preferably machine made to improve the quality of ducts.

e)

Spacing of flange joints shall be at 3 meters maximum.

f)

Duct supporting hangers shall be used at a spacing not exceeding 3


meters. Hangers shall be supported from anchor fasteners in the ceiling.

g)

All flanges when used for transverse joints shall be joined by using
galvanized SS bolts (SS-304), nuts & washer at about 125mm center to
center. Size of the nut-bolt shall be M6 for ducts having larger side upto
1000 mm and M10 for ducts having larger side greater than 1000 mm.

h)

For longitudinal joints, angle iron flanges shall be provided for ducts by
using rivets at about 100mm center to center. Ducts shall be lapped 6mm
across the flanges.

i)

All flange joints shall have 6mm thick Non-inter cellular Neoprene gasket
or washer packing stuck to the flanges with adhesive (viz. resins like
Araldite or equivalent)

j)

All the duct shall be made air tight with the help of sealant.

k)

Duct work shall be provided with following accessories, wherever


applicable.
Turning Guide Vanes.
Extractor with operating lever.
Splitter Damper with control rod & locking device.
Volume control Damper (opposed bladed type with 16 gauge
250mm wide blades and 14 gauge casing of GSS).
Centrifugal fan outlets shall have min 150 mm rubber impregnated
canvas connections.
Fire resistant flexible connection between duct chute and diffuser (if
required)
Access doors for fire dampers and filters.

l)

Supply air diffusers or grilles shall be provided

Intake Louvers
a)

Intake louvers shall be 20g GSS constructed in plain strips of about


125mm width, of which 25mm shall be bent at right angle to 100mm

portion, to provide hand grip for positioning / removal of louvers from outlet
side.

(v)

b)

Louvers shall be fitted in grooves in 18g. G. I. sheet channel frame work to


be fixed in opening provided with nuts and bolts. Louvers shall be sloped
on intake side at 60C with vertical.

c)

On the intake side, flanged and galvanized bird protection screen shall be
fitted with the framework.

Filters
a)

Filter media shall be of high density polyethylene mesh stitched together


with GI wire / HDPE mesh support and crimped to form deep folds, 4/5 ply
unit with efficiency of 90% to particles of 10 microns shall be supplied
unless specified otherwise in data sheet.

b)
Filter shall be selected for a pressure drop of 6.5mm WG max. when
clean.

One random filter shall be performance tested at manufacturers works as


per BSEN 779 / BS-6540. However, type test certificates for all filters shall
be furnished.

d)

Filters shall be suitable for mounting in carbon steel framework suitable for
bolting with grouting frame.

Air Intake Volume Control Dampers


a)

These Dampers are required to regulate quantity of air intake.

b)

Dampers shall be double acting multilouvered type complete with


framework, louvers, operating linkage, bearings etc.

c)

Dampers shall be fitted on angle iron framework furnished by vendor


complete with fixing frame. Unless otherwise mentioned in Data Sheet,
Damper blades shall be of 18 Gauge GSS.

Relief Dampers
a)

Relief dampers are required to release excessive positive pressure inside the
room beyond design over pressure.

b)

Relief dampers shall be spring supported counter weight actuated louver type
with angle iron framework. Louvers shall be hinged / riveted on rods which are
connected to common operating linkage system. In their normal position, louvers
are closed under spring action. Operating mechanism should be free from all
constraints and easy to get operated automatically. Excessive air pressure

should result in a horizontal force on louvers and torque created by this force
should be supplemented by operating linkage and open the damper against
spring force and counter weight and when excessive air pressure is released, it
should close by action of spring / counter weight.

Relief damper shall be provided with bird screen.

d)

The fixing frame for relief damper whether installed in wall or window, shall be
included in Vendors scope.

Fire Dampers
a)

Fire dampers shall be installed in supply air path. These shall conform to
UL-555 for 1.5 hour fire rating.

b)

The fire dampers shall be provided with limit switches for indication of
open / close position of dampers.

c)

Fire dampers shall be of electric motorized type.


Signal from Purchasers fire & gas panel shall be made available at
vendors Local Control Panel, in the form of potential free contact. The
wiring from this contact upto motor actuator shall be by vendor.

Water Manometer
a)

Water manometer shall be of U-tube inclined type.

b)

All connections, tubes and stand shall be included by vendor.

c)

One water manometer is required for measuring over-pressure of room


with respect to outside and the other for measuring pressure drop across
filter. The extent of over pressure shall be 3 to 5mm water column.

Air Pressure Switch


This switch will actuate an alarm in case of failure of pressurization Plant /
System. Cabling for interlock is by vendor.

(xi)

Electrical
Electrical equipment and works shall be in accordance with electrical
specifications and data sheet.

(xii)

Incidental Civil Works


Making openings in walls / for ducts / pipes / cables / equipment etc. and making them
good after installation.

Grouting / fixing of all equipment including supply of grouting material, frames,


foundations bolts, anchor bolts etc.
Supply & Grouting of supports / support structure for ducts / cables / pipes etc. including
supply of grouting material.
Providing and fixing of framework for SA grilles / diffusers, intake / exhaust air
arrangement and relief dampers.

(xiii)

Deviations to Specifications
Deviations to Specifications, Data sheets etc, if any, must be furnished clause
wise at the bid stage itself. In case no deviation schedule is furnished, it will be
construed, as total compliance to Specifications, Data Sheets etc.

5.0

INSPECTION AND TESTING


Inspection & Testing at works and at site shall be as described below.

(i)

Inspection and Testing Procedure at Works

a)

Equipment
Inspection & identification of raw materials and approval of same. Test
certificates for materials, shall be produced for TEIL Inspection.
Production of material test certificates laboratory test (for Physical, Chemical &
Mechanical properties for samples of materials) if required by Inspection
Engineers.
Qualifications / Review of welding procedures, welders and welding operations
as per ASME-IX.
Testing of fabricated joints limited to 10% with DP test.
Dynamic balancing of rotating assembly of fans.
General mechanical checks on fan assembly trueness, alignment clearances etc.
for fans.
Mechanical running of fans, for 1 hour and general check on mechanical
operation including noise and vibration limits.
Performance test of fan at Manufacturers Works as per applicable code.
For filters test of sample filter elements as per BS-6540/BS EN 779 as applicable
to ascertain efficiency upto the claimed micron size and manufacturers test
certificate are required.

Visual and dimensional examination of various equipment components.


Any or all the tests may at TEIL / Purchasers option be witnessed by TEIL /
purchaser. However, such inspections shall be regarded as check-up and in no
way absolve the vendor of his responsibility.
b)

Motors
Against Manufacturers test certificates unless otherwise specified in Electrical
specs. However, necessary tests as per Motors specs / Data sheet will be
carried out and witnessed at Manufacturers Works for all motors above 22 KW
and all flameproof / increases safety motors of any rating as applicable.

c)

Instrument and Controls


Visual examination against manufacturers test certificates.

(ii)

Inspection and Testing Procedure at Site


All electrical items will be subjected to inspection at any stage, Routine electrical
test as per relevant codes, Inspection of manufacturers test certificates.
Inspection of raw materials to be used for fabrication and assembly and
inspection of manufacturers test certificates.
Inspection of welding including welders qualifications as desired by inspection
engineer, inspection of fabricated items.
Checking of electrical circuits (power & controls) and checking functioning of
controls.
Checking of assemblies for electrical control panels (Functional), annunciator
panels etc.
Checking of calibration of controls & instrumentation.
Inspection of complete electrical installation at site.
Installation of main equipments like fans, stack.

(iii)

Performance Test of Ventilation Plants at Site.


After the plants are erected, routine tested and commissioned at site,
performance testing of complete system will be carried out for 4 hours & following
readings will be recorded.

Air flow rate and pressure at relief dampers while exhausting under
excessive pressure.

Vendor shall be solely responsible to get required testing instruments at site to


conduct relevant tests to prove above parameters.
6.0

PACKING AND IDENTIFICATION


All packaging shall be done in such a manner as to reduce the volume. The
equipment shall be dismantled into major components suitable for shipment and
shall be properly packed to provide adequate protection during shipment. All
assemblies shall be properly match marked for site erection.
Attachments, spare parts of the equipment and small items shall be packed
separately in wooden-cases. Each item shall be appropriately tagged with
identification of main equipment, its denomination and reference number of the
respective assembly drawing.
Detailed packing list in water-proof envelope shall be inserted in the package
together with equipment.
Each equipment shall have an identification plate giving salient equipment data,
make, year of manufacture, equipment number, name of manufacture etc.

7.0

SPARE PARTS
Vendor shall submit his recommended list of spare parts with recommended
quantities and itemized prices for first two years of operation of the equipment.
Proper coding and referencing of spare parts shall be done so that later
identification with appropriate equipment will be facilitated.
Recommended spares and their quantities should take into account related
factors of equipment reliability, effect of equipment downtime upon production or
safety, cost of parts and availability of vendors service facilities around proposed
location of equipment.

Vendors main offer shall include start-up and commissioning spares. List of
included start-up & commissioning spares with quantities shall be furnished with
the bid.
Mandatory spares required, if any, shall be specified by Owner separately.
