Thankyouforparticipatinginthisshort[20min]onlinesurveyonurbangovernance.Thesurveywillcoverthefollowingthematicareas:
Politicalpower,budget&financing,multilevelgovernance,participation&accountability,continuity&strategicplanning.

Thesurveyanditsunderlyingresearchhasthreemainobjectivesandrelatedfindingswillhopefullyalsobeofvaluetoyourcitygovernment:

1.addresstheurbangovernancedatachallenge,i.e.dealwiththeproblemthatregardlessofconstantlyincreasinginformationonurban
governanceinindividualcities,wecontinuetohaveverylimitedknowledgeonthewidespectrumofdifferenturbangovernance
arrangements.
2.establishaplatformforindividualcitiestoidentifyinternationalurbangovernancecasesthatareofparticularrelevancetotheirown
specificsituations.Thiswouldpotentiallyallowforamorefruitfulexchangeofgoodpractice.
3.explorenewandinnovativewaysforcommunicatingandmappingurbangovernanceforpublicdissemination,comparativepolicyand
researchanalysis.

Thesuccessofthisstudydependsonthelevelofparticipationoflocalgovernmentsindifferentcountriesandglobalregions.Itsimpactwill
certainlyprofitfromthecurrentglobalmomentumaroundurbangovernancerelatedquestions.TheUnitedNationsarecurrentlydebatingthe
futureprioritiesforthepost2015worlddevelopmentagenda.Astheworldbecomesincreasinglyurbanised,theurbanagendaandurban
governancearecentralissuesinthesediscussions.

Initialresultsofthissurveywillinformthe2014UrbanAgeConferenceinDelhi,Indiawhichwillbringtogetherawiderangeofpolicymakers,
academicsandcityexpertstodiscusstheroleofurbangovernanceinshapingthefuturedevelopmentofcities.Inaddition,thesurveyresults
willactasabackdropforUCLGs4thGlobalReportonDecentralisationandLocalDemocracy(GOLDIV),apublicationthatexaminesthe
situationoflocalgovernmentsaroundtheworld.
