A Proposed Plan for the Implementation of TuxMath Game as a Learning Tool in Solving

Addition of Single and Two Digit Numbers


Rationale
Mathematics is one of the most useful and fascinating divisions of human
knowledge. It helps us in many important areas of study, and has the power to solve
some of the deepest puzzles man must face. But, there are still learners who find it
difficult and confusing. They assume that all math problems are hard to solve because
of the difficult examples being given to them by the teachers. In this way, learners may
lead to lack of interest for the subject which is quite challenging to the teachers who are
teaching Mathematics.
During the discussion, teachers do their best to inculcate particular Math lessons
by means of different teaching strategies in order to get pupils interest and help them
eliminate the negative perceptions that they have towards the subject. Because of this,
the learners attitude towards Math would change. There are times also that the
teachers way of handling the class could be one of the reasons why learners develop
positive outlook towards Mathematics. Thus, it sometimes lies in the teachers hands on
how to motivate his/her learners to accept Math subject and learn to gain interest and
confidence in solving Math problems.
As presented in this research, the TuxMath game is an alternative learning tool that
would help pupils in learning the basic concepts of Math in an enjoyable way,
particularly in solving addition of single and two digit numbers. With the application of
the said game, the pupils will be encourage to participate in the discussion allowing
them to be more motivated to learn. That will lead them gain more knowledge, skills and
strategies in solving mathematical problems.
We cannot deny the fact that its an innate drive of the learners to explore the things that
they are capable of. Most young learners are curious enough to experience things that
are new to them which look interesting, challenging and enjoyable. Through this, the
researchers would like to help young learners improve their understanding and abilities
in solving math problems, specifically in solving addition of single and two digit
numbers, with the aid of TuxMath game.

Objectives
The implementation of TuxMath game as a learning tool aims to achieve the
following objectives:
1. To master the ways in solving addition of single and two digit number.

2. To achieve better performance in arithmetic, particularly in solving addition of


numbers.
3. To practice mathematical skills and strategies in solving addition of numbers.
4. To improve self confidence in solving different arithmetic operations.

Mechanics of Implementation
The implementation of TuxMath game as a learning tool in solving addition of
single and two digit numbers will undergo the following steps:
A. Pre-Entry
1. The initial stage of the plan is to ask permission from the concern authorities
specifically, the Schools Division Superintendent, Principal of Elementary
School, and Schools faculty and staff for the implementation of the learning
tool.
2. Organize an orientation program for the teachers, parents and pupils to be
oriented of the nature and process of the game.
B. Presentation of the Game
The subject teacher will introduce the TuxMath game to the pupils who take
up Mathematics subject involving the basic arithmetic operations.
C. Administration of Diagnostic Test
The teacher will administer a diagnostic test covering the topic in solving addition
of single and two digit numbers.
D. Lesson Proper
The teacher will discuss the different techniques in solving addition of single and
two digit numbers.
E. Implementation
In the activity or implementation part, the TuxMath game is given to the pupils
after the lesson was discussed.
F. Schedule of Implementation
The implementation of TuxMath game will be on the Second Grading of the
School Year 2015-2016, wherein the lesson on solving addition of numbers is
tackled.
G. Persons Involved
The implementation of TuxMath game will be done by the teachers who are
handling Mathematics subject.
H. Evaluative measure
To assess the proper implementation of TuxMath Game as a learning tool in
solving addition of numbers, the involved teachers will conduct evaluative
measures to find out the effectiveness and efficiency of such tool. Moreover, the
School Principal will also take part in checking whether the teachers are
maximizing the utilization of the tool during classes.
