Assignment 2

Question 1 (60 Marks)

Construct a spreadsheet program that creates an electronic surface kill sheet for use in
ether Imperial or Metric units of measure. This spreadsheet must take into account
wellbore deviation.
The spreadsheet must be able to generate an appropriate graph to graphically illustrate the
pressure reduction profile as kill fluid travels to the bit.
Include in the spreadsheet the ability to output such values as hydrostatic and dynamic
force, influx gradients, migration rates etc.

From this completed section of a kill sheet what actions would you take if this well was being
killed using the Wait and Weight Method and:
3.2 The kill operation has been started. After 2 minutes of circulation the following
readings are observed on the remote choke panel:

Drill Pipe Pressure = 885 psi

Casing Pressure = 696 psi
Pump Stroke Rate = 32 spm
Total Strokes = 64
3.3 After 4 minutes of circulation the following readings are observed on the remote
choke panel:
Drill Pipe Pressure = 872 psi
Casing Pressure = 700 psi
Pump Stroke Rate = 30 spm
Total Strokes = 124
3.4 After 8 minutes of circulation the following readings are observed on the remote
choke panel:
Drill Pipe Pressure = 846 psi
Casing Pressure = 631 psi
Pump Stroke Rate = 30 spm
Total Strokes = 244
3.5 After 1 400 strokes has been circulated, the following reading are observed on the
remote choke panel:
Drill Pipe Pressure = 550 psi
Casing Pressure = 682 psi
Pump Stroke Rate = 30 spm
Total Strokes = 1400
3.6 After 2 200 strokes the following readings are observed on the remote choke panel
after the well has been shut-in to observe the pressures:
Drill Pipe Pressure = 0 psi
Casing Pressure = 689 psi
Pump Stroke Rate = 0 spm
Total Strokes = 2 200
3.7 After the check, the kill procedure is continued. What should be done?
3.8 After 5 500 strokes the following readings are observed on the remote choke panel:
Drill Pipe Pressure = 426 psi
Casing Pressure = 1 429 psi
Pump Stroke Rate = 30 spm
Total Strokes = 5 500

3.9 After 8 600 strokes the following readings are observed on the remote choke panel:
Drill Pipe Pressure = 426 psi
Casing Pressure = 0 psi
Pump Stroke Rate = 30 spm
Total Strokes = 8 600
The choke is now fully open, and there is no backpressure on the casing.
3.10 After the check, the drilling procedure is continued. What should be done?
