BACKGROUND/SITUATION ANALYSIS

What prompted the project?

The inhabitants in Barrio Sitog, Ceres and Patik are 98% Subanen. Most families suffer
from malnutrition. Our opportunity scanning in the area shows that there are lots of fertile
lands by which they can use for vegetable gardening. The only problem is source of
good seeds and educating them how to utilize fully their available resources.

Is there an existing concern or potential problem that you want to address?

The problem that this project will respond to is in terms of food security especially now
that due to climate changes, corn which is the staple in the area do not grow well
anymore. Vegetables are easy to grow, they only need good soil, water and tender
loving care. Vegetables will provide the family with all year round food sources and the
surplus they can sell.

How is the project/program anchored to the Millennium Development Goals?

It answers the problem of malnutrition and lack of food sources especially for marginal
communities.

round.
Aside from the gardening activities, the ABCDE Foundation will also provide other support such
