READ CAREFULLY.
2012 GENERAL RELEASE CDROM (2012.105.G)
This is the General Release of the CMG Software for 2012. This release will install all of the 2012.10
versions of the different products.
The following features have been added to the General Release. For additional information, please
refer to the appropriate "What's New" document for the associated products.

Builder allows you to:

Smooth your trajectory path
Use the FlexWell REPLACE keyword in the interface
Convert corner point grids to Node based format
Work with multiple PVT regions in the Import Black Oil PVT wizard
Use the new Formula Manager which has been added
Results 3D and Graph make use of the new Formula Manager, which allows you to create, edit
and delete formulas. Formulas are also treated more like parameters, and actions such as
repeating plots are supported.
Support for new simulator keywords has been added to Builder/Results, but a number of these
keywords are not available through the interface.
CMOST has added a CMM editor, which makes it easy to add CMOST parameters directly in a
dataset.
WinProp has updates on both the engine and the interface side. The interface has been
changed to export plot data to Excel, and it allows operations to be performed on multiple
calculation modules simultaneously.

REPRISE VERSION 9.0

All CMGL software will require version 9.0 of the RLM License Server Administration on the license
server. If you do not upgrade your license server to RLM version 9.0, CMG applications will not be able
to check out licenses.
Installing the 2012 General Release CDROM will automatically upgrade RLM to version 9.0.
KNOWN ISSUE WITH SILENT INSTALLATIONS
If you have previously installed the CMG software in a location other than the default (C:\Program Files
(x86)\CMG), you will need to use the command line parameter INSTALLDIR to specify where you would
like the 2012 General Release to be installed. If you do not specify the location using INSTALLDIR, the
software will be installed to the default location.
SCREEN SAVERS
Use of screen savers or energy savers may severely interfere with simulator execution. Please disable
all screen savers and energy savers before beginning simulation work. If security is an issue, the "Blank
Screen" screen saver interferes the least.

SUPPORT FOR UAC ON MICROSOFT VISTA AND WINDOWS 7

CMGL software is supported on Microsoft Vista Professional x64 Edition and Microsoft Windows 7
Enterprise. It is not supported for other editions/platforms of Vista or Windows 7.
The Reprise License Server Administration Utility must be run with Administrator privileges.
All other applications will run with User Account Control (UAC) enabled if they have been installed using
the CMG setup program.
AUTOMATIC ADDITION OF TIMEOUTALL TO OPTIONS FILE WITH UAC
Beginning in the 2012 General Release, when installing or repairing, the line "TIMEOUTALL 120" will be
added to the ISV options file (RLMSecure/cmgl.opt by default). On Windows 7 and Windows Vista
machines, if UAC is turned on, this new functionality may not work as expected. In this case, the user
needs to manually modify the options file or move the options file to a location that is accessible and
update the ISV line in the license file. Please refer to the documentation
<CMG_HOME>/RLMSecure/DOC/RLM_Enduser.html for additional information about the ISV options
file.
LAUNCHING JOBS WITHOUT CREDENTIALS (PASSWORD) FROM LAUNCHER
The current version of Launcher supports the queuing of jobs to be run locally without providing
credentials (a password). This is called "Embedded Mode". There are some limitations to running in this
mode.
You may enable Embedded Mode in two ways:

When you install from this CD, you are queried as to whether you wish to work with a Password
or in Embedded Mode.
After Launcher is installed, you may select Embedded Mode from the Configure Local Job
Service dialog. This dialog is accessed through the Configuration -> Configure Local Job
Service menu.

There are some important things to note with this configuration option:

When you select Embedded Mode from the setup program, this installs the CMG Job Service as
a Manual service. By default, the service will not be started unless an Administrator explicitly
starts it via the Control Panel.
The first time a user starts Launcher after having installed this release, the startup mode of the
CMG Job Service is checked. If the CMG Job Service is set for Automatic startup, Launcher is
configured to require a password when jobs are submitted to the Local job queue
(Service Mode). If the CMG Job Service is set for Manual startup, Launcher is configured to run
in Embedded Mode.
At any time an Administrator may change the startup mode of the CMG Job Service to be
Automatic. Users who have already run Launcher before this change will not see this change;
they must change their preference in Launcher.
Users may change their preference between Service Mode and Embedded Mode as they
choose; however, if the CMG Job Service was set to Manual startup a user with Administrator
rights must start the service.

In addition, Launcher behaves differently when running in Embedded Mode:

Launcher takes on the role of the CMG Job Service when running in Embedded Mode. It will
start queued jobs as processors come available.
Launcher must stay running in order for queued jobs to be launched at the appropriate time. If
Launcher is exited or if the user logs out, the jobs will not be launched until the next time
Launcher is started.
If more than one user is running Launcher in Embedded Mode on a given machine, there is no
communication between the Launchers and more jobs may be launched than there are
processors available. The same is true if the computer is being used as a compute node for a
CMG Cluster.
It is recommended that if more than one user will be simultaneously using a computer or if the
computer will be a compute node in a CMG Cluster that Launcher is run in Service Mode.

Note that you must still provide credentials when sending jobs to a remote computer (CMG Compute
Node and Microsoft HPC Cluster).
USING CMOST WITHOUT CREDENTIALS (PASSWORD)
CMOST by default uses a Windows Service ("CMG CMOST Host Service") to run CMOST engines.
This service requires the same access to credentials as Launcher does, and therefore will only work in
Password Mode.
If you use Launcher in Embedded mode, CMOST will operate in this mode as well. To start a CMOST
Task in this mode, you must use the "Embedded Host" option.
PROVIDING CREDENTIALS WITH A SMART CARD FOR QUEUEING JOBS
If your organization uses a smart card system for credential verification, it is possible that the credentials
change too often for the CMG Job Service to log in and impersonate the job submitted with the
credentials active at the time of submission. If this is the case, you may use Launcher in Embedded
Mode.
COMPATIBILITY OF THE JOB SERVICE BETWEEN DIFFERENT RELEASES
When uninstalling a CMG release, it is expected that the newest version of the Job Service will be kept
when multiple releases exist on the computer. If you are running Launcher in Service Mode, uninstalling
the General Release may cause jobs to hang in previous versions of Launcher because the newer
version of the Job Service might not be compatible with older releases. To replace the newer job service
with an older version, you can do the following:

Go to Control Panel --> System and Maintenance --> Administrative Tools --> Services and stop
'CMG Job Service' and 'CMG CMOST Host Service'.
Go to the directory where you have the CMG software installed (i.e. C:/Program Files(x86)/CMG)
and delete the CMGJobService and CMOSTHostService folders.
Go to Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs and select the previously installed CMG Software
release.
Click Repair to restore the older versions of the CMG Job Service and CMOST Host Service.
Open Launcher and go to Configuration --> Configure Local Job Server and select the checkbox
'Use job service to submit any jobs' option.

REPAIRING CMG.JOBSERVICE REGISTRATION

Uninstalling a Launcher 2008 version may remove the registration of the CMG Job Service from
Windows. To repair this, a user with Administrator rights needs to reregister the service. The following
command may be used:
sc create CMGJobService binPath= "<path to CMG.JobService.exe>"
Note that a space is required between the equal sign and the path to CMG.JobService.exe. If the path to
CMG.JobService.exe contains spaces, it must be contained in quotes.
