Frequently Asked Questions

BizCloudTM & CloudCompute

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Question: There are a lot of these Cloud announcements taking place these days what separates
BizCloud from the hype and empty promises?
Answer:

Cloud is the latest industry buzz word, but this announcement is not just another cloud
offering. Rather, it is a package of integrated technology and services to enable every
organization to extract value from IT as a service. BizCloud is a revolution in how Enterprise
IT can acquire burstable infrastructure capacity without huge up-front capital outlays. The
organizations that have hesitated to embrace Infrastructure as a service because the only
way to enjoy the economic and business advantages was in a public cloud environment can
now engage without the associated risks and without losing control of mission critical
computing. A Private cloud with the economic advantages and flexible commercial construct
of a Public Cloud simply wasnt available until now.

Question: What are the benefits of a private cloud over a public cloud?
Answer:

First, its important to say that the cloud computing experience shouldnt be dependent on a
zip code. CSC offers consistent cloud capabilities whether the capabilities are enabled on
premise in an organizations datacenter or whether the capabilities are delivered from a CSC
Trusted Cloud Datacenter. Both modes of cloud service delivery have their place. The
economic benefits derived from the CSC private and public cloud are roughly the same.
On the other hand, organizations often have legitimate preferences around risk and
compliance and these preferences shouldnt have to be ignored in order to enjoy the
business and economic advantages of IT as a service. Thats how CSC read the market need
for a private cloud: as a service with the inherent risk and compliance safeguards and with
the same benefits offered with the same commercial benefits offered by public cloud
providers.

Question: Risk management and security are good reasons for private cloud but are there other
considerations for making a private cloud part of the enterprise cloud strategy?
Answer:

There are many sound technical reasons for wanting to have cloud server instances close
in network terms to mission critical IT application environments. Performance is optimized
and operational complexity is simplified. Using an off premise infrastructure sometimes
introduces performance issues and operational complexity. With an on premise private
cloud like BizCloud, the performance issues are avoided entirely and the operational
complexities are addressed. Another challenge of a public infrastructure specifically is that

there are typically no provisions made for server monitoring or backup. These issues can be
mitigated or eliminated entirely with an onsite private cloud that complements traditional IT
datacenter infrastructure.
Question: How is the CSC public cloud different from other public clouds like Amazon?
Answer:

CSC Trusted Cloud Datacenters are more like community clouds. We are dedicated to
security and transparency and we are developing technologies that will give our clients a
portal through which they can monitor their data and resources. But today, our clients come
to the CSC Trusted Cloud by way of their business and their applications and share similar
perspectives on privacy, security and compliance with regulatory and industry standards.
Each member of the CSC community shares the capacity advantages of the cloud knowing
that the management of the cloud includes state of the art security processes and
technologies.

Question: What are your thoughts about the trend toward Cloud Computing and Private Cloud
infrastructure?
Answer:

- Customer requirements are driving the trend

- Need for more efficient and, particularly cost effective IT
- Cloud promises greater capability and flexibility
- CSCs workload driven approach to cloud maximizes the business value of all components
in an enterprise infrastructure not just cloud service elements

Question: What are the benefits of hybrid cloud?

Answer:

Delivering IT as a service is rapidly evolving. If youre able to establish criteria for on premise
and off premise computing and then align your workloads based on these criteria we believe
more and more organizations will include hybrid cloud as part of their long term strategy.
The concept of hybrid cloud means that some workloads will run on premise and others off
premise and that the cloud provider will deliver the management, integration and
automation for all the applications and business processes to operate as one. In the industry
we expect to lead the way with our partners to provide the orchestration, federation and
authentication to make this a reality for our customers.
The benefits of hybrid cloud include:
Further improvements on utilization of IT assets (size infrastructure for average
utilization burst for peaks)
Hybrid clouds reduce the number of threat surfaces relative to proprietary data
exposure or in the worst case, minimizes the time that sensitive data is outside of a
clients datacenter environment
Properly designed, the additional complexity of operating and monitoring the hybrid
cloud environment is offset by the savings that accrue from the more granular
billing arrangements coupled with the ability to shut off surplus capacity when it is
not required, and then quickly reinstate it

Question: What is your company doing to help customers extract value from the cloud?
Answer:

The CIOs, IT professionals and business leaders that specify cloud or as a service recognize
that this is a game changer new roles and responsibilities, new processes for managing
and maintaining, new expectations for agility and innovation. Technology alone cant
address all this newness. Were taking the in depth knowledge acquired from years of
experience with hundreds of the most demanding companies and agencies in the world and
were adapting that for organizations embracing cloud computing or IT as a service. For
example, we offer a variety of services that focus on applications like application portfolio
reviews, application transformation and reinvention, re-platforming and refactoring.
Applications and workloads must be the guide for selecting the right cloud and
implementing it in the right way. There are very few cloud providers that demonstrate the
breadth and depth of expertise in application optimization and application portfolio
management. The same can be said for CSC security and business process transformation
capabilities.

Question: What is the competitive advantage of BizCloud?

Answer:

Two words come to mind: speed and control. The speed is derived from our strong
relationships with companies like VMware, Cisco and EMC and our allegiance to VCE for the
cloud fabric. This enables us to control the time from order to fulfillment. These
relationships are also critical to our ability to offer a preferred commercial model. In
addition, these relationships help us achieve predictability from order to fulfillment. Many IT
executives CSC talks with recognize the challenges of the IT as a service mentality. Words
like on-demand are easy to say but difficult to deliver against. So were listening and
developing solutions that deliver both improved commercial terms and facilitate increased
IT agility and responsiveness to user requirements.

Question: What are the primary market challenges CloudCompute addresses?

Answer:

CSCs CloudCompute Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) addresses four primary challenges

improving agility and accelerating cycle time by scaling on demand and expanding and
contracting resources as needed; mitigating risk and improving ROI for new business
solutions; focus IT resources on business value versus ongoing operations; limiting upfront
IT investment and freeing up capital for strategic business investments.

Question: What is the competitive advantage of CloudCompute?

Answer:

There are several key differentiators for CSC as an IT as a service provider and the
CloudCompute offering specifically.

CSC offers a full life cycle of services to support the transformation from traditional
service delivery to the cloud including the development of new business processes and
the development, management and maintenance of a broad range of database, web
and enterprise applications.
Unique to CSC are the standard service agreements across public and private clouds and
only CSC offers the same standard rate card for all cloud deployment models.
With CSC the client has the option for self service or managed service options from the
OS through the full application stack.
Critical to the success of cloud, is the ability to analyze and prioritize applications for the
cloud then provide the services required to transform, re-platform and reinvent
applications to fully leverage all the capabilities of the cloud architecture.

Question: What is the difference in price between the CSC cloud deployment options? (on/off
premise private or public)
Answer:

First lets look at what is the SAME:

Same cloud fabric - vBlock

Same architecture CloudCompute standard build options
Service level commitments
Tiered support options
Multi platform application transformation via PaaS layer
Standard rate card
Service catalogue
Elements of our holistic defense in depth security framework

The biggest difference is that for private on/off premise cloud there is a client commitment
for capacity. Off premise private cloud deployment requires a minimum term of three
months. On premise private clouds requires a 12 month contract. Additional capacity is
delivered from the same rate card across all cloud deployments.

Question: What is the difference between as available resources and committed resources in your
tiers of service.
Answer:

The bronze service tiers provide the resources you require as they are available from the
private or public pool of compute resources. Committed resources assure that the level of
resources you require are always available when you need them. Committed resources are
standard in the silver, gold and platinum tiers.
