Necessary techniques

Hindu Force

Place the card you want to force on the bottom of the deck. Hold the
deck by the long sides with your right hand. With your left hand, take a
few cards at the top of the deck and drop them in your palm. Repeat
this movement several times, letting the cards fall in the palm of your
left hand. Ask a spectator to stop you at any time. Show the bottom
card of the stack that holds your right hand. If you look closely, the
bottom card that you have prepared never left his position, but the mix
is deceptive and your audience will think the chosen card was not
prepared before. If you are left-handed, perform the force on the
opposite side.

Overhand shuffle controlling the bottom card

Make an overhand shuffle holding the bottom card with your middle
and ring fingers. When you cut the deck for the shuffle, these fingers
keep the card in place, allowing you to mix the rest of the deck. Repeat
several times, the bottom card never left his position, creating a great
illusion: The deck was shuffled, except for the bottom card.

This is a common effect, which can be presented in a different way.

Here I present my version of the burned card.

The spectator selects a card, which is signed and returned to the deck.
Subsequently, the deck is placed inside the box, and is approached to
a source of fire: a candle or lighter. When removing the cards inside
the box, there is a slightly bended one and when you take it out, has
his back burned: The card signed by the spectator.

That is the traditional way of presenting the effect, but lets talks about
my version. Instead of bringing the box to a source of fire, carry the fire
directly to the box. Place a figure of a butterfly made in flash paper on
the box and light it on fire. Undoubtedly, much more dramatic, visual
and accompanied by a good story will draw excellent reactions, I say
this from experience. If you do not have flash paper, you can do it on a
piece of plain paper, even better if it have colors. It should be a small
piece, so that the figure does not take a long time to burn.

Method: For this trick, you need to prepare a card by previously

burning his back, so I recommend burning an old playing card. Simply
bring the back of the card to a fire source, this will make it to start
burning, leaving the back blackened. Be very careful when you do this,
make short exposures to fire and move the card, otherwise, only one
specific point will get burned and the card will bend to the wrong way
and create bubbles in it, making it unusable. In addition, prolonged
exposure may cause the burn to be transferred to the face of the

playing card and we dont want that. I recommend you try with several
cards until you are satisfied and in addition that you use a candle, my
trials and experience have shown me that is the best source of fire to
perform this task. What we are looking for is a slightly bend letter with
a uniform burn on the back, unmarked face and without bubbles.

Once you have the card, you are ready to begin. Place the card in
force position and proceeds to shuffle and do the Hindu force. Turn up
the stack that has the, so the face is visible, and place it on the table to
be signed. It is important to fully control the situation. We do not want
that any viewer take the card and watch his back. You have to make
believe that it is a completely normal car, so act naturally.

After it is signed, take the card face up and place it on the center of the
deck and put it in the box. When handling the deck with the burned
card inside, take it tightly and press it, so the separation produced by
the curvature of the burn card will not be created. We need to make
believe that everything is normal, remember?

At this point the effect is ready. You simply have to create suspense
and prepare the revelation. Tell an appropriate story and place the
flash paper figure on the box. Burn it and it will disappear in a very
visual flare. Remove the cards from the case, this time taking them
lightly. Now we want that the burn card create a small gap in the deck.
We want to show that something changed. Go to that card and
surprise your audience: the burn card is signed one.

If you dont want to damage the box or cards when you burn the paper
figure, use a foil container (such as the one that some candles have) or

ashtray. But the effect is more spectacular when these items are not
present. I recommend you to use an old box for this situation.

Variants

There is a variant in which the card can be examined, but not signed.
You have to choose which one accommodates you more. In this case,
you use a duplicate of the burned card, but this is intact.

You will proceed by placing the burned card on top, with about four or
five cards over it to hide the card. Put the duplicate in forcing position
Make the Hindu force of the card and you can give it to be examined
(Remember that this cant be signed). Complete the deck while the
spectator examines the card. Ask the viewer to deposit the card on top
the deck. Proceed to make a cut and complete. This way the forced
card will be roughly in the center of the deck and the burned one, four
or five cards underneath. They are in similar positions.

After this, the effect proceeds normally. When searching for the card,
go straight to the burned one and show that is the same card they
chose. The strength of this version is that the spectators saw that the
playing card was normal and now appears burned. I assure you that
the impact will make they forget any possible suspicion that there is a
duplicate card.

Tcnicas necesarias

Forzaje hind

Coloca la carta que deseas forzar en la parte inferior de la baraja.

Sujeta la baraja por los lados largos con tu mano derecha. Con tu
mano izquierda, toma y llvate unas cuantas cartas de la parte
superior de la baraja y djalas caer en tu palma. Repite el movimiento
varias veces, dejando caer siempre las cartas en la palma de tu mano
izquierda. Pdele a un espectador que te detenga cuando desee.
Muestra la carta inferior del paquete que sujeta tu mano derecha. Si te
fijas bien, la carta inferior que tienes preparada nunca dej su
posicin, pero la mezcla es engaosa y tu espectador creer que la
carta que l eligi no estaba preparada. Si eres zurdo, realiza el
procedimiento por el lado opuesto.

Mezcla con control de la carta inferior

Realiza una mezcla por arrastre sujetando la carta inferior con tus
dedos medio y anular. Al cortar la baraja para realizar la mezcla, estos
dedos mantienen la carta en su lugar, permitindote mezclar el resto
de la baraja. Reptelo varias veces, la carta inferior nunca dejara su
posicin, creando una muy buena ilusin: La baraja fue mezclada, a
excepcin de una carta.

Mariposa de fuego

Este es un efecto comn, el cual puede ser presentado de una manera

diferente. A continuacin te presento mi versin de la carta quemada.

El espectador elige una carta, la cual es firmada y devuelta a la baraja.

Posteriormente, la baraja se coloca dentro de la caja, y es acercada a
una fuente de fuego: una vela o encendedor. Al retirar las cartas del
interior de la caja, hay una algo doblada, cuando la sacas, tiene su
dorso quemado: Es la carta firmada por el espectador

Esa es la forma tradicional de presentar el efecto, pero veamos mi

versin. En vez de acercar la caja a una fuente de fuego, lleva el fuego
directamente sobre ella. Coloca una figura de mariposa hecha en
papel flash sobre la caja y prndele fuego. Sin dudas, mucho ms
espectacular, visual y acompaada de una buena historia, sacar
excelentes reacciones, lo digo por experiencia propia. Si no posees
papel flash, puedes hacerla en un trozo de papel comn, mejor an si
es de colores. Debe ser un trozo pequeo, para que la figura no tarde
mucho tiempo en quemarse.

Mtodo: Para realizar este efecto, necesitars preparar una carta

previamente quemando su dorso, as que te recomiendo quemar
alguna carta vieja. Simplemente acerca el dorso de la carta a una
fuente de fuego, esto har que se comience a quemar, quedando
ennegrecido. Ten mucho cuidado cuando hagas esto, haz
exposiciones cortas al fuego y mueve la carta, de lo contrario, solo se
quemara un punto en especfico y la carta se doblar de una manera
incorrecta y se crearn burbujas en ella dejndola inservible. Adems,
una exposicin prolongada podra hacer que la quemadura traspase a
la cara de la carta y no queremos eso. Te recomiendo probar con

varias cartas hasta que quedes satisfecho y adems que uses una
vela, mis pruebas y experiencia me han demostrado que es la mejor
fuente de fuego para realizar esta tarea. Lo que buscas es una carta
levemente doblada, con una quemadura uniforme en el dorso, sin
marcas por la cara y sin burbujas.

Una vez que tengas la carta, ests listo para comenzar. Coloca la
carta en posicin de forzaje y procede a realizar las mezclas con
control y el forzaje hind. Gira el montn que tiene la carta hacia
arriba, de tal forma de que la cara sea visible, y colcala en la mesa
para que sea firmada. Es importante controlar totalmente esta
situacin. No queremos que algn espectador tome la carta y vea su
dorso. Debes hacer creer que es una carta totalmente normal. Acta
con naturalidad.

Luego de que sea firmada, tmala cara arriba y colcala en el centro

de la baraja y mtela en la caja. Cuando manipules la baraja con la
carta en el interior, tmala fuertemente, haciendo presin, de esta
forma no se crear una separacin producto de la curvatura de la carta
quemada. Tenemos que hacer creer que todo es normal,
Recuerdas?

Llegado a este punto el efecto est listo. Simplemente debes crear

suspenso y preparar la revelacin. Para ello, cuenta la historia que
creas adecuada y coloca la figura de papel flash sobre la caja.
Prndele fuego y desaparecer en una llamarada muy visual. Retira
las cartas del estuche, esta vez tomndolas suavemente. Ahora
queremos que la carta quemada cree una pequea separacin en la
baraja. Queremos mostrar que algo cambi. Ve a esa carta y
sorprende a tus espectadores con que la carta quemada es la firmada.

Si no quieres daar la caja o las cartas cuando enciendas la figura de

papel, utiliza algn contenedor de papel de aluminio (como el que
traen algunas velas) o cenicero. Pero es ms espectacular cuando
estos objetos no estn presentes. Te recomiendo que utilices una caja
vieja para esta situacin.

Variantes

Hay una variante en que la carta puede ser examinada, pero no

firmada. Tendrs que elegir que te acomoda ms. En este caso,
utilizars un duplicado de la carta quemada, pero esta sin tratar,
intacta.

Proceders colocando la carta quemada en la parte superior, con unas

cuatro o cinco cartas sobre ella para ocultarla. El duplicado intacto ira
en posicin de forzaje. Realiza el forzaje de la carta y podrs darla a
examinar (recuerda que esta no puede ser firmada). Recompone la
baraja mientras la examinan. A continuacin, pide al espectador que
deposite la carta arriba de la baraja. Procede a realizar un corte y
completa. De esta manera la carta que forzaste quedar ms o menos
en el centro de la baraja y la carta preparada unas cuatro o cinco
cartas bajo ella. Estn en posiciones cercanas.

Luego de esto, procede con el efecto de forma normal. Cuando

busques la carta, ve directo a la carta quemada y muestra que es la
misma que eligieron. La fuerza de esta versin est en que los
espectadores vieron que la carta era normal y ahora aparece
quemada. Te aseguro que el impacto les har olvidar cualquier posible
sospecha de que existe un duplicado.
