Integration of Control & Command Systems (C4I)

1 Introduction
User and / or project-specific amendments or adaptations as well as value added services
are often required to integrate professional TETRA trunked radio systems into operational
routines. Therefore Rohde & Schwarz has developed the most powerful interface of its kind
in the industry, the ACCESSNET Common Application Programming Interface A-CAPI.
The A-CAPI provides a comprehensive access to all communication services, data services
and features of the ACCESSNET -T professional mobile radio system. It is the basis for
an easy and fast implementation of powerful applications and custom-specific features
within the TETRA network. The aim of this document is to demonstrate the features of the
A-CAPI and the methods of implementation into 3rd party products by way of interface
software drivers, training and support provided by Rohde & Schwarz.

2 Technical Reference Model

Application Software
The application software carries out the different
application-specific customised features. This
software carries the specific 3rd party know how of
the product, which shall be connected to the
system and shall make use of the features of the
radio system.
Application Platform
The application platform provides the environment,
which is required to support the application
software by using the A-CAPI.
TETRA System
The TETRA system maps the physical part
of the reference model. It executes the services of
the application platform or provides the necessary
data.

2.3 Service Categories of the A-CAPI

Category 1 - Application Interface Services
Consist of functions for the application and function supervision for control and
maintenance of the interface between application and TETRA mobile radio system
Category 2 - Terminal Services
Comprise all Tele Services (Voice and Data), including switching functions for call
control, as well as access to the system gateways
Category 3 Monitoring Services
Provide all those functions required for voice and data monitoring and for retrieving
related call and subscriber information from the TETRA system
Category 4 - Subscriber Management Services
Are used for managing subscriber specific data, including group management and
dynamic group number assignment (DGNA)
Category 5 - System Maintenance Services
Are functions for supervision and control of system components and resources

2.4 Properties and Features

DVers.: 01

A-CAPI is based on standard interfaces and standard transport protocols (Ethernet,

TCP/IP)

All A-CAPI signalling services are easy to use over one interface and protocol

A-CAPI guarantees downward compatibility in order to secure investments of

application development

A-CAPI can be used remotely via e.g. ISDN

A-CAPI is a purely functional interface. Implementation details of the ACCESSNET

TETRA infrastructure products (i.e. switch, base stations, NMS) do not become
visible via the A-CAPI interface

No special knowledge of TETRA (e.g. of the air interface) is required to use A-CAPI

Access to the TETRA system and its services via A-CAPI is for authorized users
only. The authorization is given by the TETRA system on log-in into the application
interface of the system.

A-CAPI can be used independently of the applications operating system

A-CAPI supports simultaneous multiple applications

Ensures separation between the TETRA system and the application with unique
allocation of responsibilities for functionality, stability and maintenance
