CHAIRMANS
MESSAGE

Dear Members,
First of all, I would like to express my thanks for your contribution and support for helping us raise funds for Nepal
Earthquake victims. Members collected donations of Baht 84,442, and the Clubs matching fund was topped up to Baht
200,000.
The General Committee has entered into an agreement with S.A.B. (Thailand) Ltd. to have clocks supplied by Rolex, at
no cost, placed at strategic locations around the Club.
On the sporting front, I would like to highlight as follows:
The Ladies Golf Sub-Committee held a successful RBSC Chairmans Cup on Monday, 8th June 2015. In all, 49 lady
golfers participated in the tournament. The presentation of the trophies after the competition took place in the Henri
Dunant Hall. Participants enjoyed the function with the theme Fun Fair and many side-show games such as throwing
darts at balloons, throwing tennis balls into buckets with many attractive prizes. Congratulations to the winner, Khun
Vevika Chotiros and the runner-up, Khun Mayuree Phornprapha!
The RBSC Invitational Table Tennis Tournament was held on Saturday, 13th June 2015, with 5 teams participating,
namely the RBSC, Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), Siam Commercial Bank (SCB), Japanese Association and
Chula Table Tennis Team competed in a round robin format. The RBSC and the PEA qualified for the finals, and the
RBSC was declared the champion of the tournament.
The Entertainment Committee held 3 events, i.e. The Chill Night by The Analog Band on Wednesday, 27th May 2015
at Polo Club Air Bar, the Ballroom Dance Night Party on the Beach on Thursday, 28th May 2015 at the Henri Dunant
Hall, and the Special RBSC Club Night by Odd Tom Jones & The General Band on Saturday, 13th June 2015 at the
RBSC Air Bar.
Lastly, I would like to inform you that this will be last issue of our current publisher, Sabre Media Co., Ltd. We will
have a new publisher starting with the September issue.

GM
PERSPECTIVE

Dear Members,
I was pleased to represent The RBSC at the recent wreath laying ceremony on the occasion of Ananda Mahidols Day
at The Statue of King Ananda Mahidol in front of Ananda Mahidol Building, The Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn
University. It was a splendid example of respecting traditions executed with organizational precision, I do enjoy these
occasions.
The Club has provided a generous donation of THB 106,168 which was a part of the revenue generated from the RBSC
New Years Eve 2015 activities, and was jointly presented by RBSC and Carmax Praram 9 to the Home of Children with
Disabilities (Baan Nontapum) in Nonthaburi. We were provided a tour of the facilities and an explanation of the very
fine work of this organization and the dedicated people that support it.
In our continuous review of Members accessibility to our facilities, we are providing more parking spaces dedicated
to the handicapped or disabled. At RBSC, these are located on the ground floor of the car park adjacent to the RSC
Building and marked accordingly. At RBSC Polo Club, there are three locations: adjacent to the front entrance, near to
barber shop and by the tennis courts.
An incident that recently occurred in the RBSC 50-meter swimming pool, which was rapidly circulated on social
media, occurred following the torrential rainfall and subsequent flooding of areas of the city. The presence of a
python measuring in excess of two metres was flushed from its lair and caught swimming in the pool. Fortunately,
the lifeguard coming on duty early in the morning spotted the intruder and, with the assistance of security, swiftly
removed the snake which has now been transferred to the Royal Forest Department where it was released back into a
natural environment. In the meantime, we have scoured the area to ensure that no similar incidents reoccur.

LEADING OFF

5 REASONS TO JOIN THE

RBSC JOGGING SECTION
Jogging is one of those universal activities that translates to almost anything you do in life. Jogging on its own is a great
cardiovascular exercise. It is also an activity that translates over to any other sport you will play. It helps build endurance
and increases fitness levels meaning you will be in better shape to compete than your competition in any sport.
The RBSC Jogging Section helps organize several activities during the year. Jogging alone can be boring, but it doesnt
need to be. By joining the Jogging Section, you will be around friends who can help motivate you to run. Here are five
reasons to join the RBSC Jogging Section.
1.) Fun Events Throughout the Year
The Jogging Sections holds a number of great events during
the year to encourage Members to get out and run (or walk).
In August, the Section will host the Mid-Year Fun Run. The All
Members Fun Run will take place in November. These events
are a great chance to see what the Jogging Section is all about.

14 | JULY 2015

These relaxed events allow Members to participate in a run

at their own pace. Everyone there offers encouragement
to his or her fellow runners and walkers. Its not about how
fast or far you can run, but staying active and healthy at
any age. Everyone who participates in these events will also
receive a unique gift. RBSC Polo Club Members welcome to
participate.

2.) Staying Healthy at Any Age

The most important reason to run is to stay healthy. Jogging
is one of the only activities that just about anyone can do. A
recent article in Forbes noted that jogging may actually be
better than full speed running which burns more calories but
also puts more strain on the body. Even speed walking can
be beneficial if youre worried about putting stress on your
joints and bones.
One of the major benefits of jogging is that it can reduce
your risk of developing many different diseases. Among
these is heart disease since your cardiovascular system
since gets a great workout by moving around. At the same
time, you can strengthen your immune system. There is
no real reason not to be jogging regularly if youre serious
about being healthy.
3.) Outing Trip Unlike Any Other
The RBSC Jogging Section is planning an outing trip to
Khao Yai later in the year. The Section will charter a bus and
take a group of Members up there for a fun weekend. The
trip will start on Saturday and travel up to one of the regions
famous wineries. Saturday evening will be spent tasting
wine and enjoying ambiance.
Sunday morning will feature a lovely run in Khao Yais with
its beautiful scenery and perfect weather. Only 20 to 30
Members will be able to take part in the outing trip. Be sure
to check with the Jogging Section for more information on
this amazing experience.

the streets of the city. Start your day with an early morning jog
or take part in an evening jog after work.
The facilities at RBSC also make the experience an easy
one. With high quality locker rooms and ample parking
available, you dont have to worry about where to shower or
park your car. There is also a new stretching bar available
for use. Now you can make sure you are loose and limber
before your run and get a proper cool down afterwards.
5.) Goals to keep you motivated
Keep track of how many miles you cover and even earn
a unique jogging jacket by joining the Jogging Sections
mileage accumulation program. At the 100, 400, 700
and every 300 miles thereafter milestones, you will earn a
special jogging achievement jacket. Its a great way to stay
motivated and focused on your goals.

4.) Run with a View

The grounds of The Royal Bangkok Sports Club are absolutely
perfect for a run or walk. The lush greenery and the serenity
make it a relaxing spot for exercise. You get some of the best
views of Bangkok without dealing with the noise or pollution on

It also means you dont have to be the best. All you have
to do is participate by jogging or even walking on a regular
basis. It may seem like a far distance to cover, but walking
one mile a day, 5-days a week would not only help you stay
health, it gets you a cool jacket as a reward.

LEADING OFF

MEET RBSCS
CHAMPION RIDER
By the time you read this, Khun Larinda (Klao) Nandhabiwat
will be in Germany training with an instructor there. Despite her
young age, she is committed to riding and improving her skills.
She even hopes to have enough success to one day bring
notoriety to the sport at both RBSC Polo Club and Thailand.
Khun Klao won the prestigious HRH Princess Maha Chakri
Sirindhorn Cup for Dressage Medium at the RBSC Polo
Club Equestrian Open 2015. She has been working hard to
improve her craft since starting the sport but even she was
a bit surprised by her success at the event.
I didnt have a lot of time to prepare for the Polo Open.
I had just finished exams and was mentally exhausted. I
wasnt really expecting much, she explains. I decided to
compete for fun and for the experience. Im surprised by
how well I did. I wasnt expecting to record my high score.
Even though she went into the event without any pressure,
Khun Klao still felt a bit nervous going into the competition.
I do get nerves before a competition. You want to control
everything and be confident, but you never know how things
will go. That is the nature of the sport. You can practice all you
want, but you have to work together with the horse, she says.
If the horse is not in a good mood or is spooked, it can change
everything. The only thing that can help you prepare for that is

experience. Learning what to do in those situations is important.

Dedication is important when it comes to Equestrian. It is a
sport that is nuanced and requires equal amounts of focus
and patience. Practice and training is very important. I try
to practice five days a week if possible. Of course, school
can get in the way but its good to get out there as much as
possible. It is important to improve the areas youre weak
at. Accuracy is key in this sport, Khun Klao states.
Often times children take up riding at a young age and Khun
Klao is no different. Her mother is also a rider who is still
active today and helped introduce her to the sport.
I started riding at Polo Club when I was three years old. I began
by riding a pony. When I was seven, I decided to take things
more seriously and began practicing at a more advanced level. I
moved up to a full-sized horse almost a year ago.
That horse is the big black Hanoverian gelding, Strahlemann
from Germany. The two have found a unique connection. This
connection between rider and horse is the reason people
who participate in Equestrian love the sport so dearly.
I love animals. That is one of the reasons I chose this sport
over the others. Im not a jock. I dont play other sports, but
this one is different, Khun Klao says. In Equestrian, you

create a special bond with the horse. You have this amazing
partnership. It is unlike anything else. There are times the
horse will be moody and cranky. You have to understand it
and the horse will also learn to understand you.
She continues, I enjoy my horse. Its super affectionate and
loves to be cuddled and have its ears rubbed. It is really big,
but it is also kind of a gentle baby. The movements are so
flowing and graceful when riding him. Then you get back to
the stable after a ride and he is very affectionate. That bond
is something you cant have in other sports.

it, Khun Klao explains.

None of this would not be possible; however, without
dedication and commitment from her parents. They have
been there with her every step of the way. My parents have
been really important to my development as a rider. They
have supported me from the very beginning. They have paid
for everything to make sure I can keep doing this. Im very
grateful for them. I also have to thank my trainers who have
helped me improve over the years and my sponsor, Chang
Water.

Other sports do not require a participant to think about

them all the time; however, a horse is a living, breathing and
thinking animal that needs to be cared for all the time.
A horse isnt like any other piece of sporting equipment. You
can put golf clubs in a closet if you are not using them. You
cant do that to a horse. It needs to be cared for constantly.
Even if you dont have time to practice, you have to make
sure it is getting the exercise it needs, Khun Klao details.
It is a great responsibility. It is also a valuable way to learn
about being responsible. Riding and having a horse teaches
you patience among other lessons. I think being a rider is one
of the most challenging and rewarding things you can do.
The next stop on Khun Klaos journey is a familiar one. She
will return to Germany to work with her instructor there. It
is arguably one of the best places for a rider to train as the
sport is more popular and established there.
I have trained in Germany a few times now and will go
back again at the end of June to work with my trainer there.
This time I will actually compete in events there. This is
something new for me. It is a big step up in competition,
too, she says. The riders and skill level in Germany is more
advanced than it is here in Thailand. I am nervous but at the
same time, I am excited. It will be a good challenge.
In a couple of years, she will be off to university. This is a big
decision in a riders life. They have to choose to either give
up the sport fulltime or find a location to attend school that
has Equestrian facilities nearby.
I just finished grade 10, and I am preparing for university. Im
not ready to give the sport up, so I will study in Germany,
Khun Klao details. I can be close to my trainer there and
practice regularly. My horse can come with me. I think that is
the best way to keep participating while I am at university.
The youngster also has big dreams. Her goals include
improving the visibility of the sport. She hopes youngster
will start participating in Equestrian sports at RBSC Polo
Club and throughout Thailand. I really hope one day I can
represent Thailand. This sport isnt well known in Thailand
so if I can win a medal and get more attention for it, I think
that would be great. I really want to bring more interest to

The RBSC Tennis Section organised a tennis Interport
to Singapore during 29th-31st May visiting the ever
BANGKOK INTERNATIONAL trip
hospitable reciprocal clubs, Chinese Swimming Club
(CSC) and The Singapore Island Country Club (SICC). The
GROUP (BIG)
trip was overwhelmingly attended and widely received
The RBSC Indoor Tennis Courts saw another fun event
organized by the Ladies Tennis Sub-Committee under the
leadership of its forever effervescent Chairwoman Chalathip
Dunnvatanachit.
This was the Friendly Matche between the Bangkok
International Group (BIG) and the RBSC. BIG was founded
by tennis-loving parents of the Bangkok Patana School, but
for the event this time, it was reserved for women only with
the sole purpose of cementing the already amicable relations
between our two clubs as well as to provide another
occasion for our own lady players to improve their tennis
skills.
The matches started at 8.00 a.m. and continued till noon.
The LTSC organizers welcomed the visitors with tantalizing
snacks in the morning followed by an appetizing lunch
during the entire duration of the event. It goes without saying
that both teams played with great enthusiasm and enjoyed
the day so much that they were oblivious of the results of
their matches!

by RBSC Members led by Tennis Section Chairman Chin

Kampanatsanyakorn consisting of a General Committee
member, both the Tennis Committee as well as Ladies SubCommittee members, totaling 40 for the trip.
The purpose of the trip was to forge togetherness among
tennis section members, active and non-active, as well as
family members with the aim to meet and greet and play with
our extremely friendly yet competitive Interport clubs.
RBSC won 9-4 against the CSC under the blazing Singapore
sunshine, with the first pairings starting at 9 a.m. under
the watchful eyes of the traveling members most of whom
stayed on to support teammates until the final pairings
match ended at nearly 1pm! CSC kindly hosted lunch
and allowed the players to use the facilities in order to get
changed into afternoon (blue and white) strip, which highly
impressed CSC tennis Interport Convenor who praised our
unity and togetherness.
The afternoon match against SICC was a different affair with
RBSC fielding weakened sets of pairings as SICC claimed to
have only B, C and D level players. RBSC ended up losing
5-9 but the highlight of the match was when we started
mixing our players with theirs in what turned out to be a
truly friendly match with high spirits even after we stopped
counting the overall scores. A delightful dinner was hosted
by SICC who promised to visit our club perhaps later on in
the year for a return match.
It was an event thoroughly enjoyed by all Members, some
of whom have never even met before, both on court as well
as off court, which completely served our original objectives
in getting everyone to mingle. The trip was so successful
beyond reasonable doubt as we witnessed non-playing
Members of the trip who after coming back to Bangkok
started taking up tennis lessons!

winner of the Thailand Strongman competition, but he is also an interesting young
man trying to find his way in the world. They say you should never judge a book by
its cover and this could not be truer when it comes to Khun Aim.
have nothing to do with winning competitions.
I like going to the gym and lifting. It is a good way to get
out emotions and stress. Its also interesting to set goals
and get stronger. You see progress and stuff like that, Khun
Aim says. I also like knowing I can protect my mom and
my friends. I dont want them to ever feel like they are in
danger.
While he enjoys the gym, he doesnt envision ever turning
professional or anything like that. Instead, he plans
on pursuing another one of his passions. Its also not
something you would associate with a strongman.
In a few months I will go to Perth and start school there.
Im going to learn how to become a horse whisperer. Ive
just always felt good when Im around horses and think this
is an awesome chance, Khun Aim describes. Ive always
loved animals. You can communicate with them and read
their body language. Too many people want to treat animals
poorly, but I feel strongly that they are our equals.

Some people will see the big muscles and imposing

physique of Khun Aim and dismiss him as being some jock.
Just some guy who loves the gym and the way it makes him
look. Others see his tattoos, piercings and unique style and
label him a punk or rebel. However, once you get the know
the man you understand he is just like any other 20-year
old.
Khun Aims victory at the Thailand Strongman competition
was a surprise, even to himself. He readily admits the other
competitors were more experienced and stronger than
he was. But on that day, he was the best. It was cool to
win. My friends and sponsor, Hero Athletes, wanted me to
enter, so I did it. I mean I wasnt really expecting to win or
anything, but I guess I was the best at the moment, he
explains.
What makes the win even more impressive was the fact
Khun Aim had only been weight training for four-months
prior to the event. He had seriously injured his wrists and
both pectoral muscles a couple of years ago and had
stopped training. His reasons for weight training; however,

This is just one of many diverse interests and hobbies of

Khun Aim. Unfortunately, most people will never see this
side of him. Instead, they will take one look at him and
come to their own conclusions.
I think a lot of people see me being different and just
assume something negative about me, especially at a place
like RBSC where I really stand out. Members dont have to
look a certain way and I think this is something people need
to consider, he states. Its not about how someone looks,
but who they are.
Khun Aim is arguably stronger mentally than he is physically
having dealt with adversity and the judgement of others.
Most people will never understand this, however, Instead of
taking the time to judge a person, he believes it would be
better to get to know them instead.
If you actually talk to someone and see what theyre about,
you will get an accurate idea of who they are, he says.
Khun Aim is 100 percent correct. Its not whats on the
outside that defines a person, but whats on the inside that
truly counts.

IS THIS THAILANDS BEST VILLA?

La Residence, InterContinentals exclusive beachfront villa, is a sight to behold. As much
a work of art as it is accommodation, this luxurious two-storey, colonial style villa has a
magical feel to it. There are many extraordinary villas in Thailand, but this one sure feels
special. By Cheyenne Hollis
From the first moment you step foot inside La Residence until
the difficult farewell to this magnificent villa, you feel as if you
are taking part in history while you are making your own. The
Thai-Victorian design of Le Residence was inspired by King
Rama VIs 19th-century Royal Summer Palace in Hua Hin. The
villas two bedrooms, two living rooms, two dining rooms and
multiple bathrooms contain many bespoke details. Handcrafted
woodwork, marble and precious ornaments highlight the
magnificent dcor.

A personal butler is assigned to look after you during your stay

at La Residence. The InterContinental staff is delightful and
butlers truly care about your happiness. Little touches, like
preparing your favourite fruit for an afternoon snack, let you
know they care. Be sure to ask them to prepare one of the
hotels signature baths before bed. Its an experience not to be
missed. The best part about the butler and staff is that they are
not invasive. They respect your privacy and are only around
when duty calls.

A private infinity pool overlooking the beach is another nice

touch. The lawn and garden, complete with era-appropriate
sculptures gives you to comforts of home with just that little
extra touch of luxury. Back inside, the kitchen has everything
you could possibly need if you felt like cooking. There is highend, barista quality espresso machine and hot water available
should you feel like a cup of tea.

The levels of privacy and security at La Residence and the resort

as a whole are excellent. There is a private carpark in front of the
villa with a remote-control gate (you get the control, too). There
are also security guards watching over the villa 24/7 meaning
you will not be bothered. The relaxing ambiance really makes it
feel as if you are alone on the beach.

32 | JULY 2015

Should you wish to venture out to the rest of the resort, you will
enjoy Club InterContinental perks throughout your stay. One
of the best perks has to be the one-hour yoga or Thai boxing
personal training session. The gym is open 24-hours and is on
the larger size of hotel gyms. However, etting the hour session
really motivates you to work out; something that does not
always happen on holiday.
Evening cocktails & canaps at the Club InterContinental are
the perfect start to the evening. The elegant afternoon tea is
also worth checking out should you have time. One of the most
pleasant surprises of the entire stay was the amazing desserts
at the Club InterContinental. They were simply exquisite.
The resort boasts an impressive array of dining options. Felicita
is an upscale Italian restaurant which serves Italian classics with
just a hint of modernity. The menu has all of your favourites but
with a small twist to create an appealing taste. The gnocchi
were fantastic. The restaurant also has a world-class wine list
featuring some of the best Italian wines around.
Pirom offers Thai cuisine using fresh seafood and other locally
farmed products. The end result is food the really pops with
freshness. There are several sunken cabanas at the restaurant
offering a unique dining experience that is both private and
pretty cool.
A trip to any resort would not be complete without a visit to the
spa. The InterContinental Spa is peaceful and offers what you
would expect from a 5-star resort. It is well worth dropping by
for a massage. The staff actually takes the time to listen to your
requests which isnt always the case.
The walk from Club InterContinental back to La Residence is
refreshing. The property opens up nicely and is very spacious.
InterContinental manages to avoid the cramped feeling that
plagues a lot of the hotels on the Hua Hin beachfront. The
design really stands out.
Back at La Residence, the experience is so wonderful you will
never want to leave. Its a little slice of heaven in Thailand. Is it
the best villa in Thailand? Honestly, when you are staying there,
you wont even care. In fact, you wont have a care in the world.

Bonus: Splashtacular Fun!

InterContinental Hua Hin and Vana Nava have teamed up
to give guests the ultimate fun day out. Guests are taken
from the hotel to Vana Nava via a shuttle bus. Once
there you will receive your wristband giving you access
to the parks adventure zone. You will also get a Vana

Welcome to the Water Jungle

A day at Vana Nava, Asias first water jungle, is a blast.
Waterslides, a wave pool and countless other attractions make a
day there memorable. Children, parents and even grandparents

ones have their own space. Kidee Cove and the Rain Fortress
are exclusively for the little ones. The AquaCourse provides a
challenging and fun obstacle course to navigate. Just watch out
for the water cannons.

Despite opening in December, the buzz around Vana Nava is

still noticable. The waterpark is packed on weekends and even
during the week, business is brisk. There is no denying the place
is a refreshing change to the Hua Hin landscape. Its a place
where everyone in the family can have fun.

Those of us a bit older in age might want to take a deserved

timeout from all this action. The Tree Top Lounge on the 2nd
floor is a nice secluded spot to enjoy some time away while the
kids play. The signature cocktails are themed after some of the
parks attractions. The food is at The Tree Top Lounge is quite
good. Considering most food at pool snack bars tends to be
bad, the culinary effort here should be commended. It is also
open to public (no park ticket needed) and offers great views of
the waterpark.

Lets start with Vana Navas two main attractions: Abyss and
Boomerango. The waterslides are both massive and tower
over the park. Abyss happens to be the biggest waterslide in
Thailand. Its large funnel design gives you the feeling of going
down a drain. Boomerango is the longest waterslide in Thailand
and will send you down, then up and finally down again.
The Slide Jungle has six additional waterslides, some a bit more
daring than others. Each one offers a unique twist. For those
intimidated by the slides or just tired of climbing the stairs, the
lazy river is a perfect way to relax and enjoy the day floating
on an inner tube. Coconut Beach is a realistic wave pool that
takes the best of swimming in the ocean and gets rid of all the
annoyances.
There are two dedicated kids areas that ensure the young

There is also a bunch of other stuff including a ropes course,

climbing wall, surf zone, arcade, massage parlor and more. Vana
Nava uses RFID wristbands which makes getting in and out a
breeze. The wristbands can also be loaded with money and
used to pay for food and drinks and can keep track of photos of
you taken by the parks photographers.
Vana Nava should is a highly reccommended family destination
on your next trip to Hua Hin. Its modern, different and a whole
lot of fun. If there was one negative, it is that the waterpark
could be bigger. A few more slides and attractions, which are
already in the works, will make the waterpark truly world class.

THIRD TIMES A CHARM

DR. TONGCHATE WINS
CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
It took him three tries to get here, but Dr. Tongchate Nakhata finally won the RBSC
Club Championship. His victory was a combination of skill, god conditions and a little
luck. With the victory, he says he will be happy even if he doesnt win another tournament at RBSC during his lifetime. That wont stop him from trying, however.

38 | JULY 2015

Playing in his third Club

Championship final, Dr. Tongchate
knew what to expect going into the
match. However, it also brought with
it a little added pressure. I didnt
really want to lose again in the final.
I was a little nervous because of that
fact, but I was also confident that I
could win, he said.
The final between him and Khun
Soratat Rojanasoonthon was a
meeting of two of the Clubs more
accomplished golfers. It was also a
showdown of two contrasting styles.
I am a more conservative player. I
am more likely to go for par and hit
more greens in regulation. I got a lot
of pars in the final which was a big
difference, Dr. Tongchate explained.
Khun Soratat plays a much more
aggressive style and he likes to go
for birdies. I think my style was more
suited to the condition of the course.
The Club Championship featured
some extremely challenging
conditions this year. The rough
was extra-long and the greens were
quicker as well. The pin placements,
especially for the final, were very
difficult for the competitors.

my game. Obviously, Khun Soratat

is in extremely good shape, so I
wouldnt say I had an advantage.
However, I do think going to the gym
helped me, he says. I also got a nice
lead during the morning round. I was
able to focus during the break and be
confident going into the afternoon
round. I knew all I had to do was play
my game.
He would do just that in the afternoon
cruising to victory and his first Club
Championship win. After so many
close calls, it must have felt really
nice to finally have won the big one.
I was happy when I won, but I also
felt a sense of relief. I didnt want to
lose for a third time in the final, Dr.
Tongchate detailed. I was playing
really well going into the tournament,
so I thought I had a chance when it
started. I definitely had some luck in
the first and second rounds when my
opponents played well. However, I
was able to do enough to win and I
am really happy.
Having grown up playing sports at
RBSC and playing golf at the Club on
a regular basis since returning from
university in the USA, the win was a
meaningful one for Dr. Tongchate.

The course is always going to be a

It really means a lot to win the Club
challenge for the Club Championship. Championship. Its the best moment I
Personally, I love the conditions
because it suits my game, Dr.
Tongchated stated. You have to play
smarter. The scores are higher but
it makes the approach to each shot
much more interesting.

have had playing golf. I look up to a

lot of the great players who have won
the tournament in the past, and it is an
honour to be there alongside them,
Dr. Tongchate said. I have been
coming to RBSC since I was kid. It
is nice that I can now be considered a
part of the history here.
Dr. Tongchate doesnt believe he is at
the level of some of the Clubs best
players and understands he will need
to win a few more major tournaments
before that will happen. For the time
being, he said he will just enjoy this
victory and see what the future holds
for him.
After winning this, I would be okay
if I never won another tournament
at the Club. Winning this one means
so much to me, Dr. Tongchate said.
The pressure is off now. I dont think
I will go into any other tournaments
feeling pressured to win. Of course,
I would love to win HM The Kings
Cup. I think that would be another
great win, but I can be happy with
this.
He continues, Now when my
children are at the club they will see
their dads name on the list winners
up on the board. I think that is pretty
cool, at least for me it is.

Despite the conditions being in his

favour, he still had to go out and play
the match. Anything can happen,
especially in match play. The final
being 36-holes means there is plenty
of time for a golfer to go on a roll
or lose focus and fall behind. It also
means fitness and stamina come into
play.
I have been going to the gym
recently, and I think that has helped

EVERGREEN PRAYAD
STRIKES GOLD AGAIN
It had all the makings of an epic comeback. A sputtering start, a
spirited challenge and finally the experience and wisdom of a 49
year-old to snatch victory again.

at the Queens Cup and took pride in his battling performance
which would have also made Prayad proud.

It was another proud moment in Prayad Marksaengs illustrious

career where he is definitely enjoying one of the best times in his
golfing career. Fresh from winning his ninth Asian Tour title at
the weekends Queens Cup on home soil, the Thai veteran is not
showing any signs of slowing down and is looking to quench his
thirst for more success further abroad.

I played good all day really. But overall, I am still happy to

finish second. I was six-over at one stage of the tournament
and to be able to finish in second place is just great. Ive no
complaints, said Thanyakon.

To be able to win at 49 years old is just incredible for me. I am

very proud of myself. At the end of this year, Ill be going to
the Qualifying School for the Champions Tour in Arizona, said
Prayad after lifting the prestigious Queens Cup twice in the last
three years.
An experienced campaigner, who picked up his Asian Tour title
in China in 1996, Prayad showed that it is never over until the
last putt. Prayad lost his second round lead to Japanese leader
Akinori Tani and faced a three-shot deficit heading into the final
round at the demanding Santiburi Samui Country Club.
However, the years spent competing at the highest level on the
regions premier Tour has gifted him with the ability to stage a
comeback especially when the chips are down. I started with a
bogey but I wasnt worried as there are plenty of holes to go. I knew
Thanyakon (Khrongpha) was making a fast charge heading into the
back nine but I thought it was only one shot so it didnt affect me.
I still have the chance and I was confident with my game, said
Prayad, who jumped five spots up to ninth place on the Asian
Tour Order of Merit. Thanyakon meanwhile enjoyed his best
42 | JULY 2015

Like Thanyakon, compatriot Jazz Janewattananond also hit all the

right notes by securing his best finish on the Asian Tour so far. The
19-year-old believes he can only be better as he rose to 22nd place
on the Order of Merit after seven starts on the Asian Tour.
Its always good to come and play here because this is where
I got my first top-five result on the Asian Tour (2013 Queens
Cup). This top-five finish will definitely boost my ranking on the
Asian Tour for sure. My target is to finish inside top-10 on the
final Order of Merit at the end of the season. I will keep working
towards that goal, said Jazz.
Bangladeshi Siddikur Rahman, a two-time Asian Tour winner,
climbed seven places to 25th on the money list following his
tied-third finish with Jazz and has vowed to come back stronger
when the Asian Tour heads to Switzerland for the Omega
European Masters next month.
If I can continue to play like how I did this week, I will be
happy. I will head home to practise and prepare for the Omega
European Masters next month. My coach will be going there
with me for the first time and hopefully it was be a good outing
in Switzerland, said Siddikur.

GOLF TIPS

FINDING YOUR FOOTING

Your feet are what connect you to the ground. What you do with your feet throughout the swing is of the utmost
importance.
At address you want both feet firmly attached to the ground but make sure you have your weight slightly favouring the
insides of both feet.
As you take the club away, you want to feel the right foot becoming even more firmly attached to the ground. Never
let the right foot roll onto its right side. Keep your right knee rock solid steady as you make your backswing.
On the downswing, you want to kick your right knee in towards the ball. As you do this, roll your right foot to the
inside. Do not spin your right heel out to the right.
Just before impact you want your right heel to begin lifting off the ground. You should feel that your weight is 90
percent on your left leg.
At the finish, your left foot will roll slightly onto its left side. Be careful not to let it spin out. The right foot will finish
on its tip-toe.
Work on your footwork and improve your balance.

RBSC FOOD

STEAK IS COMING TO RBSC

This months specials at RBSC are
keeping things simple. A premium cut
of meat served with a delicious side.
Everything is painstakingly prepared to
perfection by the chefs to create these
culinary delights. The July specials
arent particularly fancy, but they will
leave your taste buds in harmony. This
promotion is only available in July so
be sure to stop by today and try them.

Salmon ceviche with horseradish cream

Salmon Ceviche with

horseradish cream

By pairing salmon with ceviche, you
bring out some of the best flavours in the
fish. The freshness of this appetizer is off
the charts. There is a citrus zing and a
bit of sweetness that really highlights the
salmon. It is a simple looking dish with
some complex flavours for you to enjoy.

raspberry sauce

On their own, chicken and spinach are
not exactly an exciting duo. However,
with the tartness and hint of sweetness
from the raspberry sauce, you have a
dish that really comes together here. The
spinach chicken rolls are also served
with mushrooms and mashed potatoes.

Grilled Norway salmon

Provenal

Norway has some of the best salmon
and you can try it with the grilled
salmon Provenal. Everything here is
seasoned impeccably to give the fish
a very rich taste. The sauce adds a
heavier element to the dish to make
it stand out as an entre which isnt
always the case with fish dishes.

Grilled pork belly with soymirin glaze

The tender pork belly gets a bit of an
Asian twist with the soy-mirin glaze. It
adds an element of sweet and salty to
pork to create a mouth-watering dish.
It comes with an assortment of grilled
vegetables.

Grilled Aus. Lamb chop and

bacon with avocado-mint

-
Australia arguably has the best lamb
in the world. Here, the prime lamb
chop is grilled and wrapped with
bacon. Not only is bacon everyones
favourite, but it gives the lamb chop
a nice bit of smokiness. It is served
with a fresh, avocado-mint sauce to
balance the richness of the meat out.

the Dining Room, Fast Food and Verandah
areas. Come down to RBSC to enjoy the
wonderful options available in July.

DONT FORGET DESSERT!

This months dessert specials at RBSC see an old favourite
return and new item debut. Both make a fitting end to your
meal depending what you are in the mood. The pumpkin buns
with pumpkin custard filling have a nice balance of sweet
and savoury. The Grand Marnier cakes once again returns to
RBSC. Taste for yourself why it has become a favourite with
Members. These dessert specials are only available during
July at RBSC Food and Beverage outlets. Be sure to cap off a
delicious lunch or dinner with one of the amazing sweets.

POLO FOOD

WELCOME TO THE DARK SIDE

The latest special Western menu at RBSC Polo Club has been painted black. The cool looking menu items all have a dark,
mysterious element to them. Underneath the black are some rich flavours you will not want to miss.
The pan-seared black chicken salad with balsamic dressing takes salad and gives it a little spice with the black chicken. The
grill gives the grilled marinated kurobuta with Thai E-sarn sauce a unique shade of black to keep up with the menus theme.
There is a grilled kurobuta steak with black pepper sauce that is rich on flavour. The black burger and cheese with hash
browns, onion rings and a mixed salad takes the normal burger and transforms it to something that looks amazing and tastes
even better. Black pasta is as popular as ever in Bangkok and the black spaghetti peppercino with salmon doesnt disappoint.
For dessert, the clair with chocolate ice cream and chocolate sauce is a dangerously decadent finale to any meal. Chocolate
lovers will be in heaven after finishing this sinful dessert.
Be sure to stop by the Dining Room, Air Bar or Coffee Shop for this special black Western menu as well as all the other
delicious dishes available at Polo Club.

YOULL ENJOY THIS FRESH FISH

The recommended Asian menu at RBSC Polo Club features some fresh fish that is absolutely fantastic. The whole sea bass
is prepared in three unique ways which highlight the great tasting fish.
There is a healthy steamed sea bass with fresh lime sauce. The citrus flavour of the sauce really pairs well with fish giving
it a nice light taste. The steamed sea bass with soya sauce brings out the more savoury aspects of the sea bass. Finally,
baked sea bass with herbs is a simple yet flavourful dish that lets you enjoy the taste of the fish.
Be sure to catch this fresh fish at Polo Club. The recommended Asian menu is only available for a limited time. Please visit
the Dining Room, Air Bar and Coffee Shop for this and all your favourites. For reservations, please call 02-2526731 ext. 261.

lychee punch available. These fruity drinks are
sure to become some of your favourites. Stop by

beverages.
