LESSON PLAN TEMPLATE

LESSON 5: Language style.


TEACHER: Elnaem Aviud Martnez Jahuey.
A. Students and Setting:
Students:
Mexican teenagers aging from 13-14 (1st grade).Could be applied to older students. Most of them have previous
approach to English but are still weak in using English.
Setting
This is a public secondary school located in Soledad de Graciano Snchez S.L.P where English is taught three times
a week. There are 30 - 35 students in the class. Students are not motivated to learn a second languge but they are
expected to spend time watching English movies and listeing to English songs because theres no native speakers
living within town. Every lesson lasts 50 minutes. The classroom is adequately resourced. There is a computer with
access to the Internet, a smart TV and a whiteboard. The students have textbooks.

B. Lesson Background:
Students are learning how to use English in a polite way and ask other people information. They were taught basic
grammatical points such as usage of Could, May, and Can in different situations. They learned greetings and farewell
expressions and answered a worksheet about good manners. They watched and listened to videos in which native
speakers talking about their complains, requests and favors. The previous lesson, class was divided into 8 groups, 4
students each group and each student was assigned to collect words related to the next lesson. They had to look up
the meaning of every new vocabulary. Each group will receive a question in class, the first 15 minutes of class are for
them to exchange their new vocabulary with their teammates to pick up the most appropriate ones which they can
use in their speaking.

C. Learning Objectives/Expected Results:


Terminal: Students will be able to:
1. Consciously select more and less polite phrasings of requests/commands in English.
2. Identify elements of politeness in native speech.
Enabling: Students will:
1. Identify the tenor (polite or impolite) or a naturalistic dialogue.
2. Compare varying statements for levels of politeness.
3. Justify their judgments of a sentence's pragmatic intent by referring to the specific techniques
used.
4. Revise impolite sentences into more polite phrasings.
5. Confirm their new understanding by observing specific examples in spontaneous native speech.

D. Materials and Sources:

Materials:
Projector through which handouts can be projected, or handouts printed onto enough sheets for students to
work in pairs.
White board and markers.
Students will need pencils, notebook, cardboard, markers to make a dialogue.
Packet of sweets.

E. Procedures/Timing:

bar of chocolate to the class. Tell students you
will give a sweet to the first student who can ask
for it in English. Then ask for different ways of
asking for a sweet. Give a sweet to the students

a sweet please?, Could I have a sweet please?
Would you mind giving me a sweet please?
Ask the students which are the good, or polite,
phrases.
Show Can / Could / Would phrases as polite
and the best requests.

Play the video.

Pay attention to the video.

Instructions. In teams of 4, make a dialogue to


the video with previous learning using greetings,
modals, and asking for information.
Teacher will monitoring the activity.

worksheets to match it to the video.

Its supposed to do this reflection after doing the activity in the class. Students have to know the diverse style of using
