1. You want to determine whether knowing a student's final grade helps to predict how
that student will evaluate their teacher. You ask 12 students to assign their math
teacher a numeric grade between 0 and 100. You also record each student's final
grade. You collect the following data:

A. Construct a scatter plot for these data. Does there seem to be a linear relationship
between the two variables?
B. Use your graphing calculator to construct a least-squares regression line.
C. Create a scatter plot of the residuals against the explanatory variable. Does the
scatter plot support the assumption that the residuals are normally distributed about
the regression line? Can you continue to use regression analysis to analyze these
data?
D. What are the null and alternative hypotheses for a two-sided significance test for this
regression line?
E. Using your graphing calculator, find your test statistic and p-value for this two-sided
test.
F. What's the standard error of the slope of this regression line?
G. Construct a 95% confidence interval for the slope of the regression line.
H. Interpret the 95% confidence interval (.776, 1.2384) for the slope of the regression
line.

A. Enter your data into L1 and L2 on your graphing calculator and construct a scatter plot.
Describe the scatter plot.
B. Use your graphing calculator to construct a least-squares regression line.
C. Create a scatter plot of the residuals against the explanatory variable. Does the
scatter plot support the assumption that the residuals are normally distributed about
the regression line? Can you continue to use regression analysis with this data?
