ACCT 2003 Principles of Accounting I Summer II 2015

Corporate Report Project 240 points

Due Sunday, August 2nd, by 11 pm

Overview In this assignment, you will search for information on the Internet or other
sources about your chosen corporation. I prefer you find their most recent annual report from
their investor section of the website.

Objectives & Outcomes The purpose of this assignment is to expand your

knowledge of accounting beyond what is in the text book. It will involve the use of the
internet. You will be required to prepare a written report or presentation, your choice.

Description/Instructions I will assign a company to you.

Use the Internet, your

school library, and other sources to develop a Power Point presentation. If you arent familiar
with Power Point, you can also do a short (3 to 5 pages) Word report. If you do a report, please
make sure it is typed, double spaced, and in a 12 pt font with correct spelling and grammar. If
you choose a presentation, I should be able to infer a continuous story by the notes you add to
each slide.
Most major corporations maintain home pages on the Internet. This home page provides a
variety of information on the corporation and often includes the corporations financial
statements. In addition, the New York Stock Exchange Web site (http://www.nyse.com)
includes links to the home pages of many listed companies. Financial statements can also be
accessed using EDGAR, the electronic archives of financial statements filed with the Securities
and Exchange Commission (SEC) (http://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/browse-edgar?). (Make sure to
include the ? mark!)
Include in your presentation/report the following information (not necessarily in this order): (12
pts each, except #12)
1. Logo, and President and Vice President(s) of the corporation
2. State of incorporation-on front page of most SEC filings
3. Nature of its operations
4. Company history
5. Give your opinion of this company, based on your research.
6. Product lines and current news
7. Total assets, liabilities, and owners equity from the most recent balance sheet
8. Total revenues and net income from the most recent income statement
9. Classes of stock outstanding (preferred, common)
10. Market capitalization (cap) of the stock outstanding
11. High and low price of the stock for the past year (52-week high and low price)
12. 7 of the following ratios AND the numbers used to compute them: Current Ratio,
Receivable Turnover, Days Sales Uncollected, Inventory Turnover, Days Inventory on
Hand, Payables Turnover, Days Payable, Profit Margin, Asset Turnover, ROA, ROE,
Debt to Equity Ratio, Free Cash Flow (84 points)
13. Dividends paid for each share of stock during the past year (if none, state that)
14. 10-year performance based on $100,000 investment (number of shares purchased on
beginning date is calculated by dividing $100,000 by the purchase price for the beginning
dateJuly 1, 2005. To determine gain or loss at the end multiply the number of shares
from the beginning with the purchase price at the ending date July 1, 2015. Gain or

loss is determined by comparing the ending amount to $100,000.) Yahoo! Finance can
be very helpful with this as well.
