Rape can basically defined as a sexual contact that being forced, committed by a person

you dont know, or even the person you know for example, friends, or family members (Office
on Women Health, 2011). Meanwhile, rape was also can be defined as a kind of aggression of act
and the power which combined with some form of sex. Which mean the person was not agreed
and has being forced into sexual contact including forcing a body part or an object to his or her
body. The consensus was not given to the person before the sexual contact, and the person who
being forced normally facing the threats, physical restriction and also physical violence from the
rapist (Clark University, 2015).
In addition, there were numerous types of rape. The types of rape might be different
according to who was committing the rape, who was the one who being rape, and what was the
actions that involved in the rape (America's Mental Health Channel, 2012). In addition, rape can
be divided into three main types, which were anger rape, power rape and lastly the sadistic rape
(YALE, n.d.).
So, for the anger rape, this kind of rape mainly expresses the hatred of the rapist towards
the victim. The rapist also tends to want the victim to understand and feel the anger of the rapist
toward them, and make the victim to suffer. While for the power rape, this mean the rapist wants
to express his or her power over the victim. The rapist has a fantasy of women and wanted them
to struggle and after that assent to sex. For the sadistic rape, the rapist normally obsessed with
the ritual that goes along with the sex, which simply mean the rapist might ask the victim to do
some sort of role play, and this could make the rapist to become excited.
In addition, there were some common types of rapes, which were acquaintance rape, as
known as date rape, stranger rape and lastly the gang rape. For the acquaintance rape, the victim

was raped by someone known; the person can be the victims friend, or even their own
boyfriend. For the stranger rape, this means the victim was raped by the one which they do not
know. Lastly for the gang rape, this basically means the victim being raped by more than two
people (SexInfo Online, 2015).
Furthermore, the myths of rape actually bring the false understanding to the society.
Myths lead the society to put the blame towards women. This is because we have the thought of
the victim was actually asking for rape. Instead of holding the responsible to the rapist for being
rape, we blame the victim instead (Rape Crisis, 2015). It was actually very unfair to the victim.
Meanwhile, myths also make the victim felt guilty and ashamed to report the rape case as they
might felt not supported from the person around her. Some of the examples of the myths of rape
were, myth was sex, but that was actually not. Rape was actually an action of violence.
According to National Victim Center and Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center, rape
was a life-threatening experience for the victim. Furthermore, another myth will be, it was not
considered as rape if the woman and man were married or in a relationship. Somehow the truth
was, a boyfriend or husband may never force his girlfriend or wife to have sex with him, and the
woman has to give the consent for sex. Meanwhile, in any relationship, a woman always has to
right to say no and reject to have sex if she was not willing to do so (University of Minnesota
Duluth, 2011).
Last but not least, rape has actually brings serious impact towards women, the trauma
after being raped can be severe or maybe long-lasting. Meanwhile, the victim somehow will felt
disbelief and shock, as they might think that this incident will not happened to them.
Furthermore, the victim will eventually remembering what was happened to them, they just
could not stop thinking about the miserable incident. Depression, fear and anxious may also

experience by the victim, as they might have a thought like they had lost something and felt very
depress which they never felt before. In addition, the victim might also have some physical
symptoms for example sleep disturbances and also headaches. The victim will felt very hard to
concentrate with their daily activities. Moreover, the victims will eventually fear about the safety
around them as they were being frightened before. Lastly, the victim will also have the selfblame thought as they will doubt with their judgment towards someone. They might also have
the thought of blaming with themselves (Rape Treatment Center, n.d.).
