Generator Rex is an American science fiction "nanopunk" action animated television series created by Man of
Action Studios for Cartoon Network. John Fang of Cartoon Network Studios serves as supervising director. It is
inspired by the comic M. Rex, published by Image Comics in 1999. The series premiered in the United States on
April 23, 2010, on Cartoon Network. Generator Rex is rated TV-PG.[3] The last episode of the third season had aired
on January 3, 2013.

Plot
Five years prior to the series, a massive explosion released high concentrations of nanites into the atmosphere,
infecting almost every living thing on Earth. These nanites may randomly activate inside their hosts, mutating the
subject into a monster known as an E.V.O. (short for "Exponentially Variegated Organism"). Though some E.V.O.s
retain human-level sanity, intelligence, and memory and are in full control of their special E.V.O. abilities; most go
violently berserk and cause widespread damage, chaos, and destruction. An international organization known as
Providence exists to combat the E.V.O. threat.
Rex is a fifteen-year-old (sixteen, later on in the series) amnesiac teenager who is an E.V.O. Unlike most E.V.O.s, he
lacks any physical deformation but forgets about his past. He is also able to control his active nanites, allowing him
to manifest a wide variety of various bio-mechanical abilities and powers. However, Rex is truly unique because he
has the ability to deactivate nanites inside other E.V.O.s, effectively curing them of their monstrous mutations.
Working for Providence under Agent Six, Rex uses his unique abilities to stop and cure rampant E.V.O.s. His
archenemy is Van Kleiss, an E.V.O. scientist who hates and despises Providence. He believes nanite mutations are a
gift and should be utilized accordingly. Van Kleiss is connected not only to the original Event which released the
nanites upon the world, but to Rex himself. Though it was never stated Rex may have the ability to turn himself into
the mechanical E.V.O. in the episode "Promises, Promises" in season one, this was shown to be theoretically
possible when Rex started combining his E.V.O. powers so if he were to combine them all it could make him into
the giant bio-mechanical E.V.O. previously seen and mentioned.

interstate from tearing it down and disguise Freddy as a spotted
three-toed ferret. But then they realize that this species is real, and a
real female spotted ferret is shipped to the barnyard and Freddy falls
in love with her. But the animals realize that female spotted ferrets eat
male spotted ferrets when they marry, so the gang must get rid of her.

Ben 10 is an American media franchise created by "Man of Action" (a group consisting of Duncan Rouleau, Joe
Casey, Joe Kelly, and Steven T. Seagle) and produced by Cartoon Network Studios.
The franchise is about a boy who acquires a watch-like alien device, called the Omnitrix, that allows him to turn into
alien creatures.
The Ben 10 franchise received wide critical acclaim and won three Emmy Awards; it also has grossed over $2 billion
in retail sales in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) and has sold 100 million toys worldwide.

Series
Original series
10-year-old Benjamin Tennyson finds an alien device out in the woods, the Omnimatrix (Omnitrix for short), which
allows him to turn into ten different alien species: Wildmutt, Four Arms, Grey Matter, XLR8, Upgrade,
Diamondhead, Ripjaws, Stinkfly, Ghostfreak, and Heatblast. Throughout his summer vacation, traveling the world in
the "Rust Bucket" with his Grandpa Max and his cousin Gwen Tennyson, Ben fights crime and evil aliens with his
new powers, gaining the ability to turn into nine more aliens:Cannonbolt, Wildvine, Blitzwolfer, Snare-oh,
Frankenstrike, Ditto, Upchuck, Eye Guy, and Way Big.

Ben 10

Alien Force
Five years after the original series, Ben has apparently taken off the Omnitrix, but, when his Grandpa Max goes
missing, he puts it back on, which reboots it and gives Ben a new set of ten aliens (Swampfire, Echo Echo,
Humungasaur, Jetray, Big Chill, Spidermonkey, Goop, Brainstorm, Chromastone, and Alien X). Ben's old enemy,
Kevin 11, had somehow escaped the Null Void, but has now become (mostly) reformed and joins Ben's team.

Ultimate Alien
Several weeks after the end of Alien Force, Ben now has the Ultimate Omnimatrix/Ultimate Omnitrix/Ultimatrix,
which allows him to 'evolve' his aliens into more powerful forms. Even though it was advertised that Ben now has all
of his old forms, this doesn't really happen until Ben 10,000 Returns. After Ben gets home to his family, he also has
many new "aliens" that he has to try and fight evil with.

Omniverse
After Ultimate Alien, Ben gets a new Omnitrix along with a new set of aliens. While Gwen and Kevin go off to
college, Ben is ready to become a solo superhero. But Max pairs him up with a by-the-book rookie plumber, Rook
Blonko. Max sends Ben and Rook to investigate a hidden alien city. Meanwhile, Ben is targeted by an intergalactic
bounty hunter named Khyber. Ben later meets new villains and has a secret about his alien Feedback.

Elements of the franchise

Omnitrix/Ultimatrix/New Omnitrix/Nemetrix
Falling accidentally into the hands of Ben Tennyson, the Original Omnitrix, its later upgrade to the Ultimatrix, and
the "improved" version that is the New Omnitrix are the central elements of the Ben 10 story. They are all alien
devices of level 20 technology developed by Azmuth that transform the user into any one of a number of alien
beings (originally 1,000,900, but the number has increased by 11 because of the transformations that have been
unlocked throughout the series via the "Scan Mode" of every version of the Omnitrix). Despite many seeing the
Omnitrix as a weapon, its true purpose was to allow the diverse beings of the universe to understand each other by
"walking in each other's shoes", and to resurrect all of the intelligent "sapien" species in the universe that may go
extinct (including the human-race). Both of these facts are revealed in the Alien Force episode "War of the Worlds".
The second function cannot be achieved by the Ultimatrix (because of Albedo's self-obsessed and non-humanitarian
ideals), and it is not yet confirmed if the New Omnitrix can achieve it, as well.
The Omnitrix appears in the first two incarnations of the franchise (Ben 10 and Ben 10: Alien Force) and the
Ultimatrix in the third incarnation Ben 10: Ultimate Alien. And in the final episode of Ultimate Alien, Azmuth takes
the Ultimatrix from Ben and replaces it with the fourth incarnation, the New Omnitrix - the original and Ultimate
versions having only been only prototypes, and yet the New Omnitrix has all of the same issues as its predecessors.
In Ben 10: Omniverse, the Nemetrix, a knock off of the original Omnitrix, is introduced. Unlike the Omnitrix and its
succeeding models, the Nemetrix uses the DNA of the natural predators of the sentient alien races. Thus, only an
animal can utilize the Nemetrix, as users of higher intelligence are unable to use it themselves.

22

Ben 10

23

Characters
The franchise has a variety of characters: humans, aliens, and magical characters mixed with the alien subject.
The Plumbers
The Plumbers are an intergalactic policing/counter-terrorist/black-ops organization, which deals with
extraterrestrial, paranormal, and other situations by using many high-tech alien gadgets and weapons.
The organization is composed of both human and alien members, each of whom possesses a special badge, and all
badges bear the intergalactic peace symbol, a green hourglass shape. Later in Omniverse, the plumber's symbol
becomes a red dot. The badge has many features:

Is a communication device.
Creates a holographic map that can pin-point the location of another Plumber's badge.
Is a universal translator.
Enables access to "Extranet", which is an intergalactic version of the Internet.

In the original series the Earth's Plumbers were a secret government organization that protected the general public
from any alien threat. Their main base was located inside Mt. Rushmore, where the Null Void projector and
Sub-Energy were stored. Their main adversary was Vilgax. Max was a Plumbers member in his youth. Most of the
Plumbers have disbanded; however, a few members (like Max and his relatives) remain in a semi-active capacity.
Forever Knights
The Forever Knights are a secret British society/paramilitary group first formed during the Middle Ages that are
dedicated to collect and study alien technology, usually by illegal means. Any aliens they capture along the way are
dissected and studied, and any humans caught with them are immediately deemed worthless and disposed off. It is
revealed in "Ben 10: Ultimate Alien" that the reason for their actions is to combat Diagon, an entity from another
dimension that nearly conquered the Earth in the Middle Ages were it not for the Forever Knights' immortal Founder
George; when George left them, the Forever Knights began to splinter under various self-titled Forever Kings who
transformed their knights' duty into a genocidal policy toward anything alien. The Forever Knights also arm
themselves with a large variety of medieval weapons enhanced by alien technology, with Lightsaber-like swords,
lances, "laser lances", laser guns and electro shock rods being their most common ones.
Anodites
Anodites are a humanoid race of energy beings from the planet "Anodyne".
They are based on a vital energy called "Mana", that is present in all living things and beings throughout the entire
universe, known as the life source energy. For Anodites, this is a source of power, and they also have the ability to
control it like "magic" (which is confirmed to be derived from Mana). A key difference is that this form of magic (or
at least magical rituals) relies much more on the use of spoken incantations, spell books, charms and talismans, and
even celestial events, to achieve the magical and mystical effects the caster desires. Anodites manipulate this, and are
able to create pink-and-magenta-colored shields and force fields of varying shapes and sizes for protection and
circular magenta shapes or globes that can be thrown to disable enemies.
Anodites are quite free-spirited and most don't take life as seriously as most humans to the point that some Anodites
disregard the morality of their actions and would rather satisfy their own personal pleasures, but that does not stop
them from helping others.

Ben 10
Osmosians
Osmosians (a play on osmosis) are human-like aliens from the planet "Osmos V".
They have a unique ability to absorb matter and energy from nearly anything and use it in various ways. Osmosians
can channel energy through their hands to manipulate technology, discharge it as an energy blast or use it to speed up
cellular regeneration to increase their strength or recover from injuries at an accelerated rate. Osmosians are able to
absorb and synthesize the mass, properties, and chemical makeup of matter to change their body into a living matter
sharing these properties. The absorbed matter is as durable as the matter used to make it and can enhance their
strength and durability. Osmosians can also extend their matter to anything they are touching.
Osmosians can become mentally unstable if they absorb energy and cannot control it, becoming an addiction like a
drug. Storing energy for long periods of time will worsen their instability. This addiction, can be also caused when
they feed with life force from other living beings, causing the Osmosian to become insatiable and instinctively seek
out any possible source of energy to feed off of.
As they can absorb energy life force, they can also absorb the DNA, receiving 10% of their abilities and powers, and
making the Osmosians having sometimes, physical mutations.
Galvans
Galvans (a play on galvanization) are small bipedal frog-like beings, originally from Galvan Prime; currently they
live in Galvan Mark II.
The Galvan race is best known for being a highly intelligent race whose great amount of calculative and technical
intellect allowed them to create almost anything from spare parts and deduce the function of any device at a glance.
The Galvans originally had no empire to speak of, were recognized from their skills and were employed by other
species as industrial technicians, spies and saboteurs. But in time, keeping their projects top secret, they amassed
their acquired knowledge to build a powerful empire of their own based on the technology they had kept from the
rest of the universe. Among the notable Galvans in the series, is Azmuth, who created the Omnitrix among many
other technologies; and also Azmuth is considered the most intelligent being in the Universe.
In "Destroy All Aliens," Azmuth's father says that the Galvans created Stonehenge, as a practical joke.

Transports
Each series has featured with some kind of main transportation. The wheeled motor vehicles, even appearing like
normal cars, they are equipped with several Plumbers' technology, like a turbo engine, laser guns and also an
autopilot. And they are often destroyed during the series.
The Rust Bucket, is an old RV resembling a GMC motorhome owned by Max Tennyson. And despite being old,
and even have been destroyed a few times, Max has a great affection for it.
Ship is a Galvanic Mechamorph (Upgrade's species) alien that has the ability to transform himself into fully
operational technology he's once touched. He merged with the Forever Knights spaceship, from this event, he
became the space transportation for Ben's team during the season 3 of Ben 10: Alien Force. The Rust Bucket III, a
Plumbers' jet that Kevin has upgraded with alien tech, replaced him.
Kevin's car is a Muscle car resembling a Dodge Challenger armed with Plumber technology as well as other various
alien tech, including guns and offroad capabilities. It is the team's main transport in Ben 10: Alien Force & Ben 10:
Ultimate Alien. It is damaged and/or destroyed a lot, mainly during fights or chase scenes, and Kevin is constantly
busy repairing it.

24

Ben 10

Allusions
The series often makes references and parodies to popular culture:
Ben 10
Ben 10: Alien Force
Ben 10: Ultimate Alien

Running gags
Many characters prefer violent solutions rather than verbal ones, especially Kevin, who prefers to hit people
before talking, but is stopped by Gwen, who is much more sensitive than him. Also, Ben prefers using a big,
powerful alien in many situations, but ends up turning into another alien, especially Grey Matter, a small and less
powerful genetic Galvan, and Nanomech, a humanoid insect.
During the original series, Ben has a lack of hygiene, and this is briefly seen in the other series. It is sometimes
mentioned that he rarely washes himself or never changes clothes, claiming the shirt that is commonly worn
throughout the first series is the only shirt he used during the entire summer.
Mr. Smoothy is a restaurant that serves mostly smoothies at which Ben and his friends are regular customers.
The titular mascot is a cup with face and legs that holds a smaller cup. It serves the strangest assortment of flavors
in its smoothies, made to order. Among the strange flavors which Ben drinks are: "chocolate and carrot",
"nectarine", "mango and blueberry with extra echinacea" and "all-meat flavored smoothies such as lamb and
sardine". In Bellwood there are 23 Mr. Smoothy restaurants, and in some episodes some of them are destroyed
because of Ben.
Sumo Slammers is a large franchise spawning up to video games, trading card games, TV shows, movies, mp3
players, etc., which appears often in the Ben 10 series. The storyline of the franchise is similar to anime stories,
although the details were not shown, but it tells about a warrior called Ishiyama and his archenemy called Kenko
with the ability to shapeshift. Kenko has somehow joined to Ishiyama. Ben has been a huge fan since he was
young, and is always trying to do something linked with it, such as knowing the news about them and pretending
that he is fighting like them.
Kevin's car is a muscle car armed with Plumber technology as well as other various alien tech, including guns
and off-road capabilities. As it is often damaged and/or destroyed (such as during fights or chase scenes), Kevin is
constantly repairing it. The Rust Bucket III has also become a part of this running gag. In the episode "Video
Game" Kevin seems to think Ben's destruction of Will's car is not a good way of getting back at Harangue for his
rage focused at Ben. Due to Kevin's obsession with own his car, it is likely a joke referencing that.
Since "War of the Worlds", due to Ben's worldwide fame, he shows some typical celebrity behavior, where he is
chased by fans and shows off, hoping that someone will notice and adore him. He constantly claims to have
"saved the universe".

Recurring elements
Technologies
The advanced technologies shown are both alien and from Earth. In the series, they are divided in levels of
complication, danger or sophistication. The levels known thus far are 1-20, although some technology is confirmed
to be higher than Level 20. Any tech above the allowed level used on this planet, is considered illegal.
Earth is a level 2 planet, something that is considered very inferior by other aliens, as it was stated once that Earth is
at least 500 years away from being level 3.
Dwayne McDuffie describes some levels:
Level 1 includes use and construction of simple tools.

25

Ben 10
Level 2 includes remedial energy Manipulation, the use of Fire and/or the use of simple machines.
Level 3 includes intermediate tool use and industrial organization combined with intermediate energy
manipulation. Often information management technologies develop at Level 3. This is also the level at which
many species accidentally kill themselves.
Level 5 includes remedial manipulation of the fundamental force.
Null Void
The Null Void is a pocket dimension created by the Galvan as a penal colony. It is filled with floating rocks, with
flying creatures as guards. It is shown to be worse than a normal prison, often scarring many people that went there,
including Kevin, which can be argued to be the cause for his transition to a protagonist. It's also a place for people to
start over in life. They are protected by the guardians - creatures that protect powerless people in the Null Void from
the more violent inmates. They first appeared in "Back With A Vengeance " on Ben 10. But then not revealed as
Null Guardians. In the later Episodes they were revealed.
ID Mask
ID Masks are masks that can change someone's appearance holographically. They were often used by DNAliens to
take forms of human beings, and are also used by Plumbers' Kids who are obviously part alien to hide their
appearance and be able to roam freely on Earth. Even Kevin Uses one after he turns into which he calls Monster.
Techadon Robots
Techadons are powerful war machines that were mass-produced by a Weapons Technology group known as the
"Weapon masters of Techadon". They are armed with powerful lasers and nanite based regenerative technologies,
able to recreate itself in entirety from a single hand. The custom made ones that are commissioned for a hit are
stronger and when one is destroyed, the other ones adapt from the defeated ones.
Time Travel
The Entropy Pump is a machine made of quartz crystals developed by Professor Paradox during the 1950s, as a
time-traveling experiment. It was experimented in a lab when an assistant Hugo drew back and hit the controls,
causing the machine to become a vacuum, pulling Paradox inside of it and hurling him into the event horizon of a
virtual wormhole. The result powers Paradox's time traveling project by generating enough energy to weaken the
time-space continuum.
Paradox, now with knowledge of the time line, later explains to Ben the concept of Cross Time. Cross Time is a
reference to alternate future timelines, such as the timeline depicted in "Ben 10,000" and "Ken 10" where Kevin was
still evil. Another Cross Time future, depicted in "Ben 10,000 Returns", presents Ben still with the Ultimatrix and
using it to become an Ultimate human.

26

Ben 10
Ascalon
Ascalon is a sword-like weapon also created by Azmuth, with the power to tap into the forces of the universe itself.
The sword is so powerful that it can destroy an entire planet, and can also cause madness to anyone who possesses it.
Only the one who is dignified can have such power, that's why Azmuth gave Ascalon to an immortal human who is
battling an extra-dimensional creature, knowing that only "he" needs such power to fight.

Films
Secret of the Omnitrix
The first is a regular animated feature called Secret of the Omnitrix. A trailer of the film was released with the film
Billy & Mandy: Wrath of the Spider Queen, and it aired August 10, 2007. The main plot was about during a fight
with Dr Animo, Ben's Omnitrix accidentally sets off its self-destruct mode and Ben has to find the Omnitrix's creator
to shut it down and stop the evil Vilgax.

Race Against Time

The second is a live-action film titled Ben 10: Race Against Time which aired November 21, 2007. It revolves

The series received three McDonald's Happy Meal promotions internationally, as well as one in America in August
2011.[9] The toys are colored translucent dolls of some Omnitrix/Ultimatrix aliens and its Ultimate forms, and inside
there is a small photo of Ben. But the Alien Force toys are four rings, each one are an alien (Goop, Jetray, Alien X,
Chromastone) and with features linked with their powers.

Ben appeared on a parody of Benjamin Franklin, titled "Ben 10 Franklin" on the show MAD. Franklin was flying
his kite when he was struck by a lightning bolt, gaining the Omnitrix. He used Swampfire to sign The Declaration
of Independence; Humungousaur to defeat the British, and to smash down a junior high school bully's house in
revenge. He also used other aliens from Alien Force and Ultimate Alien, where they have his hair and glasses.
Also in MAD, a reference to Alien Force was made with a parody of the movie Cowboys & Aliens, with many
titles: "Cowboys & Alien Force", "Cowboys & Equestrians" and "Cowboys & Silly Bands". The reference was
made at the beginning, where Jake awakes with Ben on his side, but Jake wearing his Omnitrix, pants and hat.
And also he used the Omnitrix to became an alien with the mix of Diamondhead, Chromastone and Way Big to
smash a cowboy.
In the South Park episode "You're Getting Old", Cartman's Mother mentions that Cartman gets upset when he
does not get a present every time someone else gets a present at a party. One of the presents Cartman gets is a
"Ben 10 Wrist Rocket".
The Robot Chicken episode "Hurtled from a Helicopter into a Speeding Train" shows Ben on his 14th birthday
party, where he complains about his gifts given by Azmuth.
Ben 10 villains, such as the Forever Knight and Animo, make a brief cameo in The Secret Saturdays episode
"Van Rook's Apprentice". References to Galvan Prime and Wildvine's species also appear in "Guess Who's Going
to be Dinner?" and "Eterno" respectively. Both references were made by the Secret Scientist Dr. Arthur Beeman,
the UFOlogist for the series.

Ben 10: Destroy All Aliens (originally titled Ben 10: Alien Dimensions) is a computer-animated science fiction
action film that premiered on Cartoon Network Asia on March 11, 2012, and in the United States on Cartoon
Network March 23, 2012, as part of "Ben 10 Week" which ran from March 19, 2012-March 24, 2012. It was
officially unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con International 2011. This is Cartoon Network Studios Asia's first film.
The movie would be Cartoon Network's first CG animated movie as well as the first time the Ben 10 universe would
be interpreted in full CG. Tiny Island Productions, producer of qubo's Shelldon, provided the CGI for the film. David
Kwok, CEO of Tiny Island Productions, commented that having an opportunity to work on the film was amazing
and challenging. This movie took place after the first "Ben 10: Secret of the Omnitrix" movie. The film won the Best
3D Animated Program category at the Asian Television Awards 2012

Ben 10: Destroy All Aliens

Plot
Taking place shortly after the events of the original Ben 10, Ben, Gwen and Grandpa Max spend their evenings
fighting aliens on the streets of Bellwood. During a battle against a robotic tank, Ben as Upgrade and Gwen argue
about the best way to defeat it, leading to Gwen using a magenta-colored glowing dismantling spell on the tank
while Ben is attached. Unknown to the children, this leads to a malfunction in the Omnitrix.
Later, after a mishap in school where the Omnitrix accidentally teleports his homework, Ben is grounded by his
parents and forced to stay home and do a history report. Ben attempts to work on the report before the Omnitrix
teleports his laptop away as well. Shortly afterwards, Tetrax Shard arrives and tells Ben that Azmuth has asked to
meet with him. They go to meet Azmuth but are attacked by an evil version of Waybig. Tetrax and Ben fight the
alien, who is also teleported into the Omnitrix, though neither of them is aware of it. Tetrax decides to take Ben to
meet Azmuth and activates a new function on the Omnitrix. Before he can explain this new ability, the ship is
attacked and Ben is sucked out into the atmosphere, falling to the ground as Diamondhead. It is later revealed that
the new ability prevents Ben from returning to human form when he times out, simply switching alien forms. Ben as
Fourarms arrives at Stonehenge and is attacked by a Galvanic Mechamorph who demands to know about the alien
that attacked Ben. Ben tries to explain, but the warrior only continues to attack and the pair carry their battle across
the globe, destroying most of Stonehenge and nearly damaging Cristo Redentor in Rio de Janeiro and in Egypt
before arriving back in Bellwood. Ben transforms into Grey Matter and manages to escape the Mechamorph.
Meanwhile, Gwen and Grandpa Max receive a call from Ben's parents Carl and Sandra informing them that Ben has
escaped the house. They go in search of him, only to find Tetrax and discover that Azmuth's ship (earlier disguised
as a semi truck) has crashed and was destroyed by the evil Waybig. They soon encounter Ben and Tetrax restores
Ben's Omnitrix to normal just as the Mechamorph catches up to them. Gwen sees how the Omnitrix reacts after Ben
returns to human form and deduces what has happened just as she, Ben, Tetrax and the Mechamorph are transported
into the Omnitrix.
Inside, Ben and the Mechamorph continue to battle before being attacked by a swarm of Stinkflies just as Gwen and
Tetrax are ambushed by a herd of Wildmutt. The four catch up with each other and Gwen explains what has
happened and they realize that the evil Waybig is inside with them just as he resurfaces. The Mechamorph, revealed
to be Azmuth's father, attacks the Waybig in revenge for killing his son while Gwen uses him to reverse the
transportation and return them to Earth. Unfortunately, the Omnitrix malfunctions again and transforms Ben's
parents into Wildmutt and Heatblast, causing Gwen to realize that the evil Waybig is Azmuth, himself. Leaving
Grandpa Max and Tetrax to handle his parents, Ben and Gwen follow Azmuth's father and the evil Waybig to the
park where Ben transforms into Waybig to subdue Azmuth while he and Gwen try to reverse the transformation.
They soon convince Azmuth's father that his son is the very alien they are fighting and the three work together to fix
the Omnitrix and return Azmuth to normal. Azmuth reprimands Ben and Gwen for their errors and releases his father
from the Mechamorph armor.
Returning to Ben's house, Azmuth restores Ben's parents to normal, and repairs the Rust bucket before leaving with
his own father. Ben's parents, having forgotten that they grounded Ben, tell him to enjoy his fishing trip with
Grandpa Max and Gwen. Ben declines, having learned to be more responsible, and stays home to finish his history
report. The movie ends with Ben, Gwen, and Grandpa Max on another road trip where they encounter Doctor Animo
and the three prepare for another exciting battle.

Ben 10: Race Against Time (also known as Ben 10: The Movie) is a 2007 American live-action adaptation of the
animated television series Ben 10 created by Man of Action. The working title was Ben 10 in the Hands of
Armageddon. Directed by Alex Winter, it premiered on November 21, 2007, in the US as a Cartoon Network
original film.

Ben 10: Race Against Time

Plot
Taking place after the series, the story opens in Bellwood as a mysterious black figure appears and immediately
starts destroying things. Ben Tennyson (Graham Phillips), in the form of Heatblast (voiced by David Franklin),
confronts him. After a short battle, Ben seemingly obliterates the villain.
The next day, Ben goes back to school, and has trouble adjusting to normal life again. After a bad day he gets bullied
by Cash (Tyler Patrick Jones) and JT (Tyler Foden) and two girls he tried to flirt with earlier in the movie resulting
in Greymatter (voiced by Carlos Alazraqui) causing complete chaos at a diner where Ms. Dalton (Aloma Wright)
works. Later he and Gwen Tennyson (Haley Ramm) go over and reveals the same villain Ben defeated earlier. Max
Tennyson (Lee Majors) identifies him as Eon (Christien Anholt), an alien called a Chronian from an unknown
dimension, who the Plumbers captured almost two centuries ago. When he arrived, he was half dead and brought a
device with him called the Hands of Armageddon, which would open a time rift to his home dimension an unleash
his race upon Earth if activated. They travel to the containment facility where Eon is supposed to be kept in
suspended animation, only to find it empty and his guard aged to near-death. The guard tells Max not to let Eon find
the hardware store, where the Hands were kept. The guard then warns Ben that Eon knows about him. He wishes him
good luck, and that he needs it and passes away.
Traveling back to Bellwood, Max takes Ben and Gwen to the location of the Hands of Armageddon, guarded by the
few remaining Plumbers ranging from Ms. Dalton, Mr. Hawkins the Postman (Jeff Jensen), Fire Chief Whittington
(Michael Runyard), Principal White (Robert Picardo), Mrs. Carlay the Plant Caregiver, Mr. Jenyx the Telephone
Company Worker, and Mr. Enguells the Sanitation Worker. Eon has followed them and breaks into the facility, but
cannot activate the device. When Ben attempts to use the Omnitrix, it malfunctions glowing bright purple and
refusing to activate. Eon attempts to kidnap Ben, claiming it to be a rescue. Eon manages to corner Ben, explaining
that his race learned to control time itself, but trapped themselves by misusing their power. He claims that his fate is
intertwined with Ben's. Ben is saved by another Plumber in disguise, whom he had met earlier at the diner. Ben goes
home where Max waits for him, and explains the dangers of the current situation. The Plumbers, all around town,
guard Ben around the clock. When Ben goes to the school gym to be alone, Principal White attempts to calm Ben's
fears just when Eon arrives again and shoves White out of the way. This time, Ben is able to become Diamondhead
(voiced by Daran Norris), as a result of his struggle with Eon. Ben finally decides to set up a trap for Eon, and waits
out at night with Gwen. As Max arrives and convinces the them that they are in danger, the Rustbucket is suddenly
destroyed, and Eon and his minions ambush the three and take them back to the facility.
At the Plumber facility storing the Hands of Armageddon, Eon explains some of the background of the Omnitrix:
Ben can only remain in his alien forms for ten minutes at a time, a fail-safe to prevent them from overwhelming his
human self and personality. Eon knows how to deactivate the fail safe, and in doing so, can turn Ben into a Chronian.
This is because the Hands need the energy of a young Chronian, which is why he kidnapped Ben. He does so, and
Ben is transformed into a younger clone of Eon. Meanwhile, Principal White has gotten out of the nurse's office and
finds the imprisoned Plumbers. When trying to find the key to that room, they point to the button near the door
which freed them all. Gwen and Max manage to free themselves. While Max tries to disable the Hands of
Armageddon at the cost of his own life, Gwen reaches to Ben inside young Eon. Ben successfully overcomes Eon
and changes back, but then sees Max is in danger. Ben manages to save Max and disable the Hands of Armageddon.
Just when it seems like they've won, time stops for everyone but Ben. Eon reappears, angered at Ben's victory. Ben
transforms into Wildmutt, fights him off, eventually knocking him into the Hands of Armageddon, destroying both
the Hands and Eon. Ben finally accepts being just Ben for a while. However, Max points that aliens are persistent,
and as the film ends, an alien ship flies towards Earth.

Diamondhead, Grey Matter, Heatblast, and Wildmutt. Winter stated at the 2007 upfront presentation that he wanted
Ben 10: Race Against Time "to look like X-Men," an epic adventure that is "more cinematic than cartoony" and
appeal to all ages. Winter also promised the film will feature "no Jar Jar." In a behind-the-scenes video played on
Cartoon Network's video service, Winter describes the film as "everything you've ever seen in Ben 10 come to life."

Reception
The film received positive reviews upon its release, viewers praised the film for its special effects and keeping its
lighthearted tone like the cartoon series.[citation needed]

Sequel
A sequel to Race Against Time, titled Ben 10: Alien Swarm premiered on Cartoon Network on November 25, 2009

Ben 10: Race Against Time

Ben 10: Alien Swarm is a 2009 science fiction action television film directed by Alex Winter. It is based on the
Cartoon Network animated series Ben 10: Alien Force and a sequel to 2007's Ben 10. The film stars Ryan Kelley,
Galadriel Stineman, Nathan Keyes, Alyssa Diaz, Herbert Siguenza, and Barry Corbin. The film premiered on
Cartoon Network on November 25, 2009.

Plot
The film opens as Ben, Gwen, and Kevin are negotiating with a group of black market dealers, who are attempting to
sell them alien nanochips. One of them reveals herself to be Elena, a childhood friend of Ben and Gwen and a fellow
Plumber's kid. Elena explains that she had set up the negotiations to lure Ben out into the open, and explains that her
father has been abducted and that she needs their help to find him.
Just as Ben agrees to help her, the chips suddenly spring to life, controlled by a man hiding in the rafters. Kevin sees
it as a double cross, though Elena insists that she is not responsible. While the dealers escape, Ben transforms into
Big Chill and drives off the intruder. Elena escapes in the confusion, further justifying Kevin's suspicions. Though
Gwen quickly sides with Kevin, Ben is not as easily convinced.
Arriving at their headquarters underneath the Bellwood auto repair shop, the trio, along with Grandpa Max, study the
chips, learning that they are Techno-organic material|a hybrid of organic and technological components. Elena,

Ben 10: Alien Swarm

having followed the trio, breaks in; Max orders her to leave, explaining that Elena's father, Victor Validus, was an
apprentice of his who was dishonorably discharged after stealing the original chips. Ben refuses to believe that Elena
is like her father, and breaks ranks with his grandfather and teammates to help her.
While Max is away, Gwen and Kevin hack into the computer files relating to Victor Validus and discover a video of
Max interrogating Victor, in which Victor insists that "the Hive", the hive mind intelligence behind the chips, is
coming to take over the planet. Realizing that Max's anger towards Victor's betrayal may be clouding his judgment,
Gwen and Kevin decide to aid Ben as well.
Meanwhile, Ben and Elena arrive at Victor's old laboratory. It has been cleared out by the Hive, but they left Ship-It
order slips behind. Other discarded files indicate that Victor was studying and upgrading the chips, and a picture
shows Elena is close to the person controlling them. A mob under the control of the chips attack Ben and Elena,
forcing them to retreat. They head to the Ship-It building to investigate further, though Ben is now somewhat
suspicious of Elena himself, having found an order slip made out for that day, when Elena claimed that Victor had
already been missing for weeks.
Gwen and Kevin, having reached the building first, are too late to stop the distribution of the chips. Instead, they are
met by one of the Ship-It employees, who is also under the chips' control. He has a chip swarm attack Gwen and
Kevin, which eventually wreck Kevin's car (a modified Dodge Challenger) after a lengthy chase. Ben, overhearing
the commotion and following them, uses Humongousaur (voiced by Dee Bradley Baker) to defeat the swarm,
completely demolishing Kevin's car in the process.
By the time they return to headquarters, the chips have spread across the globe, and number in the millions. The
group deduces that there must be a Queen (voiced by Wendy Cutler) controlling the Hive, and by destroying her they
will likely destroy the chips as well. During their search for the queen, however, one of the chips takes over Max.
Pulling together, the group notices an anomaly in the chip distribution; while world population centers are all
infected, the relatively remote Barren Rock, Missouri, has the highest concentration. The town is home to the central
headquarters of Ship-It. With Kevin's car out of commission, Kevin reveals that he has built a black and green car for
Ben (a heavily modified Mazda RX-8), called DX Mark 10 (confirmed by Bandai and Dwayne McDuffie) as a "late
birthday present."
Infiltrating the factory, the group discovers that the Queen infected Elena's father and his body is being used to
mass-produce the chips; when questioned, Elena admits that she knew her father was the Queen's host all along, but
didn't tell them because she feared they wouldn't believe her just as the Plumbers didn't believe Victor. Gwen and
Kevin reluctantly suggest killing Victor to stop the Hive, but Ben and Elena refuse to consider it. Ben uses the
Omnitrix to transform into a new alien that he calls "Nanomech" (voiced by Alex Winter) which was created by
scanning the DNA of the chips. He enters Victor's brain and battles the queen while Gwen, Kevin, and Elena fight
the drones. After a grueling battle, Nanomech electrocutes the Queen, and all of the other chips, freeing everybody
from their control.
In the aftermath, Max, after personally apologizing to Victor, decides to retire and leave his position as leader to
Ben, but Ben refuses to allow him to do so. The film ends as Ben, Gwen, Kevin, and Elena drive home.

Production
Development
Major hurdles for films initial production stage included the 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America strike as well as
the theat of strikes by other guilds. Prior to a potential Directors Guild of America strike, Winter began creating
animatics of action sequences featuring characters rejected for the 2007 film. This would allow animators to
complete sequences if the Directors Guild of America went on strike in January 2008, which ultimately did not
happen.</ref> Winter considered making a small project in between 'Ben 10' and its sequel, but decided against the
idea, saying "you have your baby and you don't want someone else to take it".</ref>

Filming
Inspired by its use in Sam Raimis Spider-Man, three action sequences in Ben 10: Alien Swarm were shot using
IMAX cameras.</ref> Although screenwriters John Turman and James Krieg suggested that the IMAX footage
would be 3D,</ref> Winter late said he found 3D too gimmicky. Winter added that shooting in IMAX was easier
than using stereoscopic cameras.

Effects
Cartoon Network became more involved in the designs of the aliens than the company was for 'Ben 10'. The
company along with Boomerang, suggested to the filmmakers that combining aliens be the main draw for the sequel.

Music
The score to Ben 10: Alien Swarm was composed by Michael Wandmacher, who reunited with director Alex Winter
to record his score with a 71-piece ensemble of the Hollywood Studio Symphony at the Sony Scoring Stage.

Reception
The film received mixed reviews from viewers, criticism on its dark storyline and the transformations going too
fast.[citation needed]

Future
In December 2009, Warner Bros. Pictures and Cartoon Network are reportedly interested in fast-tracking a third Ben
10 film due to the second films success.
