Vertical thermosiphon reboiler

1. Select vertical shell orientation on Shell panel.

2. Select thermosiphon reboiler for reboiler type on Reboiler panel.

If you specify required static head on Reboiler panel, Xist iterates to achieve the
specified static head. Xist adjusts the cold fluid flow rate and cold outlet fraction
vapor to achieve desired static head. This instance is an exception to the rule that Xist
always respects specified process conditions.

If you do not specify required static head on Reboiler panel, Xist calculates required
static head to achieve specified process conditions.

Note that specified inlet pressure for cold fluid is assumed to be at the exchanger inlet
unless you specify the pressure at column bottom option on the Reboiler panel.

Always enter exchanger duty on Process Conditions panel when you specify static
head. If it is not specified, Xist runs in unknown duty mode when the head is
specified, which can significantly increase run time.

3. Specify inlet and outlet thermosiphon piping.

4. Specify process conditions and physical properties as usual.

For vacuum thermosiphons, HTRI recommends that you either specify the cold fluid
heat release curve at multiple pressures or use the program-calculated option. At low
pressures, the effect of pressure on vapor-liquid equilibrium can be significant.

5. Run case as usual.
