1.a) State and explain Kirchoff’s laws.
b) State and explain the voltage-current relationships for
i) Resistance (R) ii) Inductance (L) iii) Capacitance(C)
c) Determine the voltage and currents in the resistance in the following circuit using
source transformation. [4+6+6]

2.a) Derive the relationship between the self inductance L1 and L2 and the mutual
inductance M of two coupled coils.
b) A cast steel electromagnet has an air gap of length 2mm and a magnetic path of
iron of 30cms. Find the MMF needed to produce a flux density of 0.8 Tesla in the
air gap. The relative permeability of the steel core at the flux density is 1000.
Neglect leakage and fringing. [8+8]
