FOREWORD
This Indian Standard was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards, after the draft finalized by the Oil
and Oilseed Sectional Committee had been approved by the Food and Agriculture Division Council.
Blended edible vegetable oils are an admixture of two edible vegetable oils. Production and marketing
of blended edible vegetable oils is aimed at achieving the objectives of enlarging the availability of
conventional edibleoils for direct consumption and popularizing non-conventional edible oils which may
notbe acceptable as such.
This Indian Standard is aimed at providing the~needed guidelines to manufacturers
quality blended edible vegetable oils.

Measures (Packaged Commodities Rules) 1977. The standard is subject to the restrictions imposed under

these wherever applicable.


For the purpose of deciding whether a particular requirement of this standardis complied with, the final
value, observed or calculated, expressing the result of a test or analysis, shall be rounded off in accordance
with IS 2 : 1960 Rules for rounding off numerical values (revised). The number of significant places
retained in the rounded off value should be the same as that of the specified value in this standard.

SCOPE

This standard prescribes the requirements and


methods of sampling and test for blended edible
vegetable oils.
2 REFERENCES
The Indian standards given in Annex A are
necessary adjuncts to this standard.
3 TERMINOLOGY

shall bejudged by the absence of turbidity after
keeping the filtered sample at 35C for 24 hours.
5.2 Composition
5.2.1 The blended edible vegetable oil shall be an
admixture of any two ediblevegetable oils as given
in 4.1.

4 TYPES

5.3 Admixture with Other Oils and Adulterants
The blended edible vegetable oil shall be free from
argemone oil, hydrocyanic acid, mineral oil and
other non-edible oils and adulterants, such as
kusum oil, castoroil, neem oil, karanja oil, animal
fat and tricresyl phosphate, when tested according
to the methods prescribed in 10, 11, 12, 14, 15, 16
of IS 548 (Part 2) : 1976,IS 548 (Part2/Sec 9) : 1988,
Is 548(Part 2/Set 21) : 1988 and IS 548 (Part 2/Set
22) : 1992, respectively.
5.4 The blended edible vegetable oil shall also
comply with the requirements given in Table 1:

4.1.2 Type 2 - An admixture of any one of the


edible grades of raw (expressed) edible oil and one
refined edible oil (expressed or solvent-extracted)
where one oil may be refined, solvent-extracted rice
bran oil.

6 HYGIENE
6.1 Blended ediblevegetable od shall be manufactured in premises maintained under hygienic
conditions as prescribed in IS 2491 : 1972,

4.1.3 Type 3 - & admixture of any two edible


grade of expressed raw edible oils, except rice bran
oil.

7 MARKING
7.1 The blended edible vegetable shall be packed
in suitable sealed cartons/flexible ~packsor plastic
containers in quantities not more than 5 kg or as
notified by the competent authorityfrom time to
time.

5 REQUIREMENTS
5.1 Description
Blended edible vegetable oil shall be clear and free
from rancidity, adulterants, suspended and other
foreign matter, seperatedwater, addedcolouringor
flavouring substances.

7.2 The package shall be marked with the following information:


a) Name and type of the material;
b) Manufacturers name and his recognized
trade-mark. if any;
