    EmergencyLightsInspectionPolicy

    OVERVIEW
    Emergencylightingislightingforanemergencysituationwhenthemainpowersupplyiscutandany
    normalilluminationfails.Thelossofmainselectricitycouldbetheresultofafireorapowercutandthe
    normallightingsuppliesfail.Thismayleadtosuddendarknessandapossibledangertotheoccupants,
    eitherthroughphysicaldangerorpanic.

    POLICY
    Wecarryout2differenttestonemergencylighting:

    MonthlyFunctionTest
    Lightsareoperatedforaminimumof30secondsandallarecheckedforcorrectoperationandphysical
    defects.Anydefectsarerecordedontheinspectionformandrecordedinthesitemaintenancesystem
    asacorrectiveworkorder.

    AnnualFullRateDurationTest
    Lightsareoperatedfor3hours(ortothemanufacturerstimeratingifless)andcheckedforcorrect
    operation,batterylifeandphysicaldefects.Thelightsshouldstillbeilluminatedattheendofthe3hour
    test.
    Whereverpossible,thisinspectionshouldbecarriedoutinamannerwhichenablesthelightsto
    rechargewhensiteoperationsarenotpresentonsite(e.g.eveningorweekend)astheemergencylights
    willrequiresometimetorechargefully.

    RECORDS
    Allemergencylightingchecks/inspectionswhethermonthlyorannualarerecordedwithinthesite
    maintenancesystemandcompletedformsarescannedandattachedtotheindividualworkorders.
