About the club
York Boxing Club has been
running at various locations since
it was established in 1967 and is
York’s only ABAE-affiliated
boxing club.
The club has produced 27
champions at club level, and
counts Billy Wilson, Henry
Wharton and Jamie Warters
among its alumni.
The club’s coaches also work with
schools in York and the
surrounding areas, even taking a Layerthorpe
PE lesson during term time. York
As well as boxing, the club YO31 7UU
encourages its members to get
involved in other social activities, Training times
including film making workshops, Mondays, Wednesdays:
guitar lessons, break dancing and 5.30-9pm Thursdays:
fishing. They also run a women- 5.30-7.30pm
only class on Tuesday evenings. Friday : 7-8.30pm

SkillsActive get girls motivated

80 girls from secondary schools across the Sedgefield School
Sports Partnership were joined by elite athletes from the
worlds of boxing, football, swimming and skiing to discuss
how to get more girls involved in activities in school.
Motivating the girls was senior international boxer Amanda
Coulson, who boxed last week in the Women’s World
Championships, and spoke about her sporting experiences
and ambitions.

Mik Basi

England referee chosen for World Cup

Congratulations to Mik Basi, who was honoured as the top official at the
World Youth Championships in Guadelejara, Mexico, this year.
Mik was one of only three officials at the tournament that the
International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) has invited to officiate at
the Boxing World Cup in Moscow from 9th to 15th December.
