SCOURING AGENT FOR PRETREATMENT OF POLYESTER YARN

OLINOL-G
Introduction:
OLINOL-G is highly concentrated solvent-based scouring, desizing, stain removing and swelling agent. It
is recommended for scouring process of all type of synthetic fabric and yarn. It removes all hydrophobic and
oily impurities from polyester fabrics and yarn at low temperature.

OLINOL-G is recommended for batch process.

The most outstanding effects of OLINOL-G:

Excellent scouring agent with good wetting and detergent action.

Removes oily contamination and sizes of all types producing a high degree of purification and good
absorbency

It works excellent at low temperatures also

Excellent emulsifying and soil-suspending properties with sustained low-foam character throughout
heating, cooling and rinsing cycles in the preparation of polyester fabrics and polyester yarn.
Concentrated product for uniform extraction of oils and waxes at low levels of application
Possesses very high detergent action that ensures rapid removal of synthetic sizing agents and
spinning oils from polyester and polyamide based fabrics.
Extremely high primary biodegradability and bio-eliminability
Stable to hard water, acids, oxidizing agents and caustic under normal processing condition
can be used as single product in polyester fabrics and yarn dyeing Preparatory process

Mode of action : (ONINOL-G : ALL IN ONE SCOURING AGENT)

OLINOL-G wets out, washes, extracts, emulsifies, disperses and makes impurities soluble/removable in all
suitable continuous and discontinuous stages of pretreatment
OLINOL-G has an emulsifying effect even at room temperature, e.g. on mineral oil contamination, so that it
becomes readily removable by subsequent hot rinsing.

Application:
Recommendation for polyester yarn pretreatment: It is Suitable for cleaning of polyester
fiber, yarn heavily contaminated by antistatic oil. Special effect on getting rid of oil-stained yarn

DOSAGE: Conning oil removing pre-treating to polyester: 0.5 - 1.0 GPL

Cleaning pre-treating of thick oil stain: 1.0 - 3.0 GPL

1 - Scouring:
CONTINUOUS AND SEMI CONTINUOUS DYEING PROCESS:
The padding technique is the most commonly used to treat continuous (or semi-continuous) textile goods.
The technique may be used either in coloring, pretreatment or finishing process.

5-30g/l OLINOL-G

40-60g/l caustic soda (100%)

OLINOL-G

Pad the fabric with above recipe at 70-80% pick -up and steam for 10-20 min. Then give hot rinse and cold
rinse in compartmental washing units

2-Scouring in a discontinuous dyeing process:

Discontinuous dyeing is also called batch dyeing or exhaust dyeing. A certain amount of textile material is
loaded into a dyeing machine and brought into equilibrium with a solution containing the dye and the
auxiliaries over a period of minutes or hours. At the end of the operation, the spent dye-bath liquor is drained
off.

Discontinuous: (liquor ratio 1:8-1:20)

2-5g/l OLINOL-G

2-4g/l soda ash o 3-8g/l caustic soda 100%

Heat to boil, hold 30-60 min. Give one hot rinse and one cold rinse.

Storage & handling precautions:

Store in a cool/dry place
Avoid storing in direct sunlight
The shelf life of OLINOL-G is one year, if storage temperature is below 30C
The usual storage, handling, usage and safety precautions should be observed

WHY WE NEED SCOURING AGENTS:

What is scouring agent?

OLINOL-G

Grey cloth OR yarn as it comes from the texturising units or loom stage is unattractive and contains natural
as well as added impurities, which hinders the successful operations of dyeing by reducing the absorbency of
the fabric thats why it is necessary to make the fabric water absorbent, by making the fabric free from any
natural as well as added impurities in order to achieve successful dyeing process.
Scouring is a preparation process to prevent problems at the next process such as dyeing or finishing by
eliminating hydrophobic impurities on grey fabric and yarn without deteriorating the fabric or yarn itself.
Scouring agent is required to eliminate the impurities effectively such as sizing agent or lubricating agent,
stains from weaving process or yarn handling and abrasion stains which come from grey woven or knitted
fabric. The required property of scouring agent varies depending on materials, fabric structure, stains and
applications.
Natural substance which fiber originally has --- cotton wax, fatty substance, protein substance, inorganic
substance (metal), dye composition
Adhered substance in process --- spinning oil, knitting oil, needle oil, sizing agent, waxing agent, rust, dust,
etc...
Functions of scouring chemicals : Scouring process applied to synthetic fibers removes oils, lubricants and
anti-static substances, dust, contaminants and can be carried out on yarns and fabrics (when warp yarns have
been bonded, the treatment is called de-bonding). It is carried out by means of surfactants, detergents and
emulsifying agents.
Some more explanation:
Definition:
The term scouring applies to the removal of impurities such as oils, was, gums, soluble impurities and sold
dirt commonly found in textile material and produce a hydrophilic and clean cloth.
Objectives of Scouring:
To remove natural as well as added impurities of essentially hydrophobic character as completely as possible
To increase absorbency of textile material
To leave the fabric in a highly hydrophilic condition without undergoing chemical or physical damage
significantly.
Scouring of Synthetics:
The scouring process applied to synthetic fibers removes oils, lubricants and anti-static substances, dust,
contaminants and can be carried out on yarns and fabrics (when warp yarns have been bonded, the treatment
is called de-bonding). It is carried out by means of surfactants, detergents and emulsifying agents.
Pretreatment:
Natural fibers and synthetic fibers contain primary impurities that are contained naturally, and secondary
impurities that are added during spinning, knitting and weaving processes. Textile pretreatment is the series
of cleaning operations. All impurities which cause adverse effect during dyeing and printing is removed in
pretreatment process.
Pretreatment processes include desizing, scouring, and bleaching which make subsequent dyeing and
softening processes easy. Uneven desizing, scouring, and bleaching in the pretreatment processes might
cause drastic deterioration in the qualities of processed products, such as uneven dyeing and decrease in
fastness.
Objective of Pretreatment:

OLINOL-G

To convert fabric from hydrophobic to hydrophilic state

To remove dust, dirt etc from the fabric

To achieve the degree of desire whiteness

Pretreatment of Synthetic Textile Materials:
Although most of the synthetics do not need to be given a very strong pretreatment however the possible
steps in pretreatment of synthetics are

Desizing

Heat setting

Washing

Bleaching if necessary
