andthequalityofconstructionproducedbyanefficientsystem.Theintentofthisresearchistoinvestigate
managementsystemsthatarereadilyandcurrentlyusedintheworld,especiallyinKajangareawhilst
providingtheresultofeachsystem.Thedataofprojectmanagementsystemforthisstudywillbe
obtainedfromquestionnairesthataredistributedamongconstructioncompanies.Managementsystems
usedindifferentcompaniesiscomparedtofindsuitablesystemtobeimplementedinconstruction
industryhereinMalaysia.Thesystemsareevaluatedtroughseveralcriteriaandthesamegoestoquality
ofconstructionprojectitself,whereitwillbeassessedbyusingassessmentsystem(QLASSIC)thatare
usuallyusedindeterminingaqualityofprojectdone.Byproducingthispaper,itistobehopedthatkey
playersintheconstructionindustryinMalaysiawilltakeintoaccounttheimportanceofestablishingproper
projectmanagementsystemiftheywishthattheirprojectwillmeettherequirementandsomehow

willincludeseveralquestioninregardtoProjectManagementSysteminconstructionindustry.Someof
thequeriescanbebroughtinandelevatedinthisstudy.Firstly,constructionprojectoftensuffersfrom
poorperformancesuchasdelaysfromgiventimeperiod,whichlateronwillmakethecostofconstruction
wentoverbudgetandunabletomeetthequalitystandardsincetheyarerushingtofinishitafterdeadline.
Then,onlyafewstudieshaveconcentratedontheinfluenceofefficientprojectmanagementsystemin
constructionwiththequalityofthefinalproduct.Thiscanalsobeseenasinsufficientproofofthe
importanceinestablishingefficientmanagementsystem.Afterthat,whatisthevalueofusingthissystem
inconstructionindustryinMalaysia?WillithelpsinincreasingthequalityofindustryinMalaysia?Orwillit
somehowhasbiggeradvantagesinstore?Finally,theprojectsaregettingmorecomplexnowadays,
causingincreaseintheneedsofnewandefficientprojectmanagementsystem.Thisisbecausetheold
andconventionalsystemwillnotbeabletocaterwithincreasingworkloadandalsothedemandof
multitaskinginconstructionprojects.1.4ObjectivesThepaperintentstoidentifywhetherthe

concretesuchasslumptestisverycommonintheconstructionindustrybutthefrequencyofslumptest
willsomehowmakesurethateachtruckloadingofconcretesurpassminimumrequirementandisready
tobeusedinbuilding.Thisisbecauseeveniftheconcreteisfromthesamebatchofmixing,thecondition
insidethedrumorbarrelofeachconcretemixertruckisvarieshenceitcancauseddifferentqualitiesin
concrete.Thecommonlypractisedwhichisperformingslumptestwithsamplefrom1sttruckineach
batchseemsunreliableespeciallywhenworkingunderhotconditionwheretheconcretesqualitycan
furthermorebeworsenbytemperature.Itisadvisablethatthefrequencyofslumptestsisincreaseto
ensurethequalityofconcreteismaintained.Thenormalcuringtimeis28daysbutfromthedata,majority

thattheyhavethecorrectgradeofbrick.Normally,thecompressionandtensiletestonbrickisonlydone
oncethroughouttheentireconstruction.Thereasonbehindisprobablythereisonly1supplierforbrickin
aconstruction.Maybetherecurrenceofthetestcanbeincreasedto1sttruckineverybatchtoincrease
theprecisionofthetestandmonitoranychangesinthestrengthofbrick.Thecommoncrushed
percentageofbrickisrelativelyverylowandifthepercentageofcrushedbrickexceedstheaccepted

agreedthatthetimbersthattheyusedarewellseasonandingoodconditiontobeusedinconstruction.
Theyalsoperformmoisturecontenttesttomakesurethatthetimbershaveachievedtherequiredlevelof
drynesstobeused.Theyalsoareperformingvisualcheckingforsplitsandcracks.Thereasonbehindthe
checkisbecausetimberwithsplitsandcracksdonthavestructuralintegrityanymoreandthereisgreat
chanceitwillcausedproblemiftheyaretobeused.Mostofthecompaniesscoredminimumof70%in
QLASSICassessment(requirementforGreenBuildingIndex,GBI).Thismeansthatmajorityofthe
companiesinKajangareabidingtheminimumrequirementofworkmanshipqualitysetupbyCIDB.
Nowadays,ProjectManagementSystemanditsapplicationarestilllimitedandyettobeappliedasearly
aspossibleinsomeprojectssinceitcanfacilitatestheachievementoffunctionalitywithafocusof
objectivesuchascontrollingthequalityofmaterialsusedinconstructionprojects.
5Aclearmajorityofrespondentsclaimthat,whereProjectManagementSystem
isemployed,
highqualityofmaterialcanbeensured.Inanutshell,theimportanceofpropertaskdelegation,constant
qualityinspectionandqualitytestingasafactorthatinfluencesthesuccessofProjectManagement
Systeminensuringthematerialquality.
