Rahul Mukherjee is a visual artist. His works range from painting


to installations to sculpture. He did his Bachelors in Fine Arts with
specialization in Painting from College of Art, Delhi and completed his
Masters in planning from Faculty of Fine Arts at Baroda in 2001. His art
works deal with the space, the imageries of the paintings, the construction
of his installations and the interpretations tell the story about existence
of human presence.
Pijush Kanti Patra is a sculptor and a performance artist. His works
are based on socio - cultural subjects. He has experience working with
many mediums like wood carving, metal casting, stone carving, fiber
casting, rope work, terracotta, cement casting, junk sculpture, murals,
object sculptures and designing functional objects.

The workshop is about a creative blending of three art practices; art of found objects, wood craft and contemporary toy making with fusion of traditional techniques and painting.
The story of Indian tradition of art is timeless as the land herself. Creative urge and boundless human imagination had led to crafted art of great variety since prehistoric times. Wood,
stone, clay, cloth, fur and leather have been used to recreate figures and events from the palpable world and also from the imaginary world of folklore, legends and myths. These are
the repositories of traditional wisdom and cultural heritage. Abanindranath Tagores craft created from found object was known as KATUM - KUTUM.
Through the workshop students will have the opportunity to choose to work on any 1 of the following: 1) Creative toy making 2) Painted crafts 3) Live puppets. Students will learn to
work on wide range of methods of shaping art. They will also learn the artistic process: how an artist visualises the idea, aesthetic & purpose of his creation and finally brings fruition.
The workshopis structured in 3 modules a) introduction about TOY MAKING of India and brief about KATUM KUTUM , b) Visualisation & Conceptualising and c) fusion of traditional
& modern Techniques with production of final form.

FACULTY OF ARCHITECTURE

At various times during the workshop, slide presentation & interactive session will be held with the students to clarify various concepts & processes. The points to be discussed include
- Possibilities of the fusion of different materials and techniques, functional or non-functional, story based or utililty based, sizes, etc.
The range of materials for this workshop will be wood, cloth, found objects, ready mades, scraps, wire, paint, etc.
