and Nawalakshmi Sanakishan Krishi Sahakari Sangstha
29th Aug 2014
Gutu located approximately sixty km from Birendranagar is a prospective
pocket area for goat rearing. Two cooperatives viz Samudahik Krishi Tatha Pasu Sewa Kendra
Sahakari Sangstha and Nawalakshmi Sanakishan Krishi Sahakari Sangstha are actively involved in
the overall goat rearing dynamics in and around Guttu. In consideration to the Goat VC
intervention strategy it was unanimously decided to visit Guttu for a better understanding and actual
prospects of service providers and resource/collection centre of goat. On the 29th August14, a PMU team
comprising of Harimadan Adhikari (AEC), Sreelal Chaudhary (GoN) and Abhijit Bhattacharya (SNV)
visited Guttu for a situation analysis to develop a service and input supplies providers and resource
centre.

Samudahik Krishi Tatha Pasu Sewa Kendra Sahakari Sangstha (SKTPSKSS)

SKTPSKSS is located close to the market centre in Gutu supported with established infrastructure
to provide agrovet services in and around Gutu to nearly eight thousand goats. SKTPSKSS is
equipped with a two shed, agrovet centre supported with microscopes and VAHW, JTA and dipping
tank. Presently they have been providing the following
services among the farmers involved in goat farming.

Diagnosis and treatment

Distribution of PPR and other vaccines
Castration services through their own VAHW
Trained V.A.H.W to provide sustainable
services.
Micro-finance facility of a year loan of twenty
thousand loan at 18% interest per annum.
Basic Awarnesss on goat rearing and shed
management
Close coordination with DLSO and service center

SKTPSKSS is an ideal organisation to be developed as a service in-and-around Guttu.

Nawalakshmi Sanakishan Krishi Sahakari Sangstha (NSKSS)
NSKSS is an applicant to W2 under the HVAP VCF W2. NSKSS has stronghold of 1500 member
actively involved in goat rearing. Their prepared business plan was reviewed by VCDIB team and
emphasised on the production, collection and market linkages of khasi. The PMU team observed
that NSKSS was well equipped office with effective filing system constructed collection centre
although not appropriate for goats. On our discussion it is appropriate for NSKSS to emphasis on
production and collection of goats. The following model seems appropriate.

Creation and registration of 6-7 farmer groups

comprising 35-40 HH each to enhance the production.

NSKSS can establish a resource/collection centre

supported with weighing system and fair pricing mechanism
and facility to ensure the keeping and reconditioning of the
collected goats prior to their despatch to the slaughter
houses.

NSKSS in liaison with SKTPSKSS can provide agrovet services and input supplies to the FGs.
