Literacy is 100% a cross curriculum skill.
It concerns: The ability to read, write and communicate, listening, sounds of words and vocabulary
as well as others.
Literacy is not a synonym for the English language It is broader and permeates each subject.
Children acquire and require literacy skills in and for all areas of learning they refine their literacy
through other areas of the curriculum.

Literacy is a loose synonym for competence but does not describe it properly for instance
computer literacy.
Literacy is cross curriculum.
Language of maths for example. There are words in the English language which are specific to
mathematics such as sin and cosin. These are words which need to be learnt in order to explain
elements of maths. There are some words that have one meaning in English and a different meaning
in maths. Such as Radius, brackets etc. And there are words that have the same meaning in maths
and english such as symmetry.
This is the same across the spectrum.

In order to overcome language difficulties, we need to encourage students to put problems across in
ways that they can explain their own words and to encourage them to read through things for their
meaning try to ascertain the meaning of words through it's context.
