LAZY MAES EDIBLES

LOW DOSE
LOW COST

KYMBER WARD
STAFF EDITOR
Amidst our journey to find the greatest
edibles the world has to offer, we came
across Lazy Maes Edibles. Based in Los
Angeles, California. The Head Chef &
Co-Founder - Heather and Co-Founder
- George were nice enough to sit down
with the Edibles List team to shed some
light on their company.
Edibles List: What was the inspiration
behind starting your company?
Heather: That answer is different for all
of us. I am extremely passionate about
the marijuana industry and I have always
wanted to bake. Unfortunately, I have
had a lot of experience with cancer in
my life and I am really excited about CBD
and the benefits it can provide cancer
patients. Plus being my own boss is a
great thing!
George: I am an entrepreneur by trade.
This is the 5th of 7th businesses I
have opened. Most of them are in the
entertainment world; however, I have
always been interested in this industry.
Heather was the way that I could get
into cannabis. I knew I couldnt do it
without someone who knows what they
are doing in a kitchen.
EL: How old were you when you began
using cannabis?
H: I started smoking later than most
teenagers; my first time was when I was
17. I have undiagnosed ADD/ADHD
and when I started smoking I became
a completely different person. I was
finally able to focus and do well in school.
Cannabis changed my life!
G: I started much younger than Heather,
I was 11. I was a very angry kid and
always getting into fights. When I started
smoking it changed my life completely. It
helped me deal with my emotions. You
wouldnt even recognize me if you met
me back then.
EL: What is your specific product line?
H: We currently focus on sweets, highend edibles, not just cookies and cakes.
There is more effort behind our edibles.
We make sure we use the highest
quality products.
G: The One Hitter line was specifically
developed to follow the trends in the
marketplace. The climate of the industry
in Colorado really helped us craft our

product line. For example, we focus

on low dose edibles as we know that
Colorado calls for 10mg dosing.
H: Additionally, we created the Hazer line
which are low-dose 20 mg cookies that
only cost $1 at retail. A Stage IV cancer
patient who felt so great off of 20mgs,
and didnt need anymore, inspired
this line. We want to help people who
want to get medicated at an affordable
price. Were opening the door for the
inexperienced and older clientele. Its so
necessary to have the dose options.
EL: What is your baking background?
H: I have been baking forever! I started
when I was little. In fact, my family has
pictures of me, in front of the oven, at
three years old. In high school, I knew I
was going to bake and didnt even take
my SATs because I knew I was going
to Culinary School. I ended up going to
the Culinary Academy of Long Island.
It was a great experience, but if you
are interested in the culinary arts I
encourage you to just go out and find
a restaurant and learn there. I began
working in a Vegan bakery and then
German-Italian bakery. While in school,
I learned French methods. At the Vegan
bakery, I learned how to handle a high
volume kitchen; and at the German
bakery I learned techniques practiced in
Long Island for decades.

EL: Why choose this specific product line

versus other products i.e. hard candies,
savory, gummies, etc.?
H: Honestly, Im not big on the candy
thing. Given the right molds anyone can
do it. I am a pastry chef, I want to be able
to showcase my love of food. As far as
savory goes, its not of the question.
EL: What is your infusion process?
H: We run kief through the Magic Butter
system. Its super useful and I can make
our oil quickly. Working with kief is great
because you can smell marijuana in the
product, but you cant really taste it. Its
not just about the cannabis; there are
other flavors too. Its actually a really odd
sensation - smelling it but not tasting it!
EL: Where do you hope to see the
cannabis industry in 5 years?
H: I would love to see it recreationally
legal nationwide, but first and foremost,
Id like California to go legal. My hope is
that we can start some sort of catering
businesse or brick & mortar options.

G: I want to see the Amsterdam coffee

shop come to the US. I really envision
a Green House Centrum or Pink Floyd
Coffee Shop that anyone can go to and
enjoy cannabis. Some place with high
quality herbs and a great atmosphere.
EL: What can we expect to see from
your company in the future?
G: We have some great things coming up!
We are currently working on CBD sodas,
carbonated and non-carbonated flavored
waters, vape pens and oil. Also, we have
just partnered up with Green Cloud
Logistics. They are helping us to expand
into NorCal and hit more SoCal areas.
H: A full CBD line as well as Vegan and
gluten-free options. Really, I just hope
the edibles market grows, so that I can
elevate. I feel like I have to hold myself
back because people arent yet looking
for the fancier pastries. I cant wait to
create products with more va-va-voom!
EL: What are your thoughts on CBD?
G: We are currently teaming up with
Honey Farm Vapes to use their whole
plant CBD Co2 oil to create our sodas.
We are set to launch those soon so
keep an eye out!
EL: What do you feel sets your company
apart from the competition?
G: Branding. We are always getting
compliments on it. We wanted a clearcut mascot that has staying power. Its
remiss that everyone in this industry
are not looking at the Nabiscos of the
world and learning that their brand
image is instrumental in withstanding
our industry. We are also vertically
integrated, so we control our products
from seed to sale. We grow high quality
meds to use in our edibles and by
handling everything from the beginning,
we can make sure we offer nothing but
the best products.
The best thing about Lazy Maes is
that the people behind the company
are truly passionate about what they
do. The company began with a group a
friends wanting to do something new.
As the cannabis industry matures we
will continue our quest to find the best
companies out there and showcase
those in the industry doing things the
right way. Congratulations on your
success in the industry thus far, and we
look forward to seeing what your future
holds. Lazy Maes Edibles is officially
Edibles List Approved!

Are you one of those people that enjoys
edibles, but does not want to be rendered
useless after consumption? Well, if you
are like me the answer is simple: Aint
nobody got time for that!
Their One Hitter line boasts a sweet
myriad of low-dose and extremely lowcost medibles with really fun names! I
mean, after a long day who wouldnt want
to try a Chill Pill or Slamcake? I know I
did. After a very long day consumed by
cannabis, I decided to consume some
cannabis see what I did there?
Allow me to explain their creative and
cost-effective products:
Hazers: Freshly baked mini snickerdoodle,
lemon & chocolate chip cookies. These
mini cookies contain 20mg THC and the
retail price is only $1. Thats right, ONE
dollar!
Peanut Budders: Chocolate-peanut
butter cookies stuffed with a peanut
butter filling. They weigh in at 50mg THC
each priced at $2. They are incredibly
delicious and melt in your mouth! Those
who love peanut butter will surely go
crazy over these.
Chill Pills: Buttery cookie sandwich with
a layer of either caramel or chocolate
in the middle, all dipped in chocolate.
Priced at only $3 for a 50mg cookie is
not a hard sell. I want to say these are
my favorite, but I dont honestly think
that I could narrow it down to one favorit
item. However, fair warning, much like
a Milano cookie these decadent little
creations are hard to put down. Chill Pills
deserve their own tagline perhaps: once
you chill, you just cant stop thanks
for the help on coming up with that one
Pringles!
Slamcakes: Stuffed cupcakes available
two ways - chocolate cake with a vanilla
buttercream filling or the Elvis cake,
which is a chocolate-banana cake with
10

a peanut butter filling. I have to admit I

hate bananas (like despise them), but the
Elvis Slamcake is really effing good. The
cake was moist and extremely soft. The
peanut butter filling simply melted in my
mouth. The flavors complimented each
other so well that I didnt even notice
the banana. Well played Lazy Maes, well
played. Also, did I mention they contain
50mg THC and will only set you back
three bucks?

Salted Caramel Chocolate Bombs: Tart

shell covered in chocolate with a caramel
center. These are the most potent of
their edibles at 100mg THC with a
retail cost of $4. As someone who sees
various infused products all the time, I
have to tell you I have not seen a product
like this. This is a simple yet, elegant
product that you just dont often see a
lot of in the current MJ marketplace. I
would expect to see this in the case at
my local bakery, not a dispensary. It is
nice to see that some companies are
taking the initiative to integrate high-

end edibles into their product lines. As

our industry grows, the consumer will
become more elevated and demand a
higher caliber product. Thank you Lazy
Maes for catering to foodies like me!
Smorezzz: Homemade graham crackers
with a marshmallow filling covered in
chocolate. This treat that will take you
right back to camping in the summer
contains 50mg and costs $4. So, I dont
think this needs further explanation
Just go get one. We both know you want
to!
Nuggets: Little butter cookies with only
25mg and cost $3.50. These arent the
most potent option, but they are perfect
for someone who has a lower tolerance.
Although, if you have a high tolerance
for cannabis you could always eat a
couple throughout the day for daytime
medicating.
Now, I would like to clarify that all prices
are retail, not wholesale. This means, this
is the price YOU pay! So, lets break this
down: You can get an edible containing
between 20mg-100mg THC for only
$1-$4!!!!! Your next question should be:
where do I sign up?
Lazy Maes One Hitter line is great for
people who dont want to get annihilated,
but medicated. They offer an assortment
of well-made, elegant products that
everyone should try! For more information

JOLLY
MEDS
RICHARD BELL
STAFF EDITOR

Jolly Meds, is a San Francisco based company founded

in 2005. The owner saw a need to create an alternative
to traditional anti-depressants and treatments for a wide
range of neurological disorders and diseases and so, Jolly
Meds was born. Early on the folks at Jolly Meds realized
the need for sativa dominant and thire lozenges have only
gained more and more popularity over the past 10 years.
Jolly Meds specializes in strain specific hard candy lozenges,
lollipops and honey based edibles. Their product line includes
CBD, Sativa and Indica JOLLY-LOLLYS, SLO-POPS (lollipops),
QU-OOBS, CBD-OOS, CANNI-SOOTHES (hard candy
lozenges), GOOD-EEZ (sugar-free lozenges), and CANNADOO (raw organic honey based products).
Their wide-range of products are effective, great tasting
and easy to use! I opted to try the CBD CANNA-DOO to
sweeten my green tea. I used the recommended dosage
of 1 teaspoon equivalent of 30mg, as per packaging. At
first, there was a brief moment of a euphoric feeling for me.
About a half hour later, the CBD seemed to be in full effect.
I was able to complete my work without feeling any negative
effects. Shortly, after consumption I had to meet a client.
It was a relief knowing that I could go without the fear of
people noticing that I was medicated.
Due to my injury, I am very sensitive to changes in the weather.
I experience hypersensitivity in my nerves, which becomes
painful and uncomfortable. I also get a lot of specificity.
Quadriplegics generally seem to suffer from a lot of nervous
energy. At times, we may experience symptoms similar to
anxiety attacks. THC definitely helps, but in my experience, CBD
is much better at alleviating a the nervous pain and anxiety.
I also tried the ginger flavored QU-OOBS with 60mg THC / 6
MG CBD. I would nevert have thought to do a ginger candy,
but it was a pleasant surprise. Due to the ginger flavoring, it
is a bit spicy tasting and the cannabis is prevalent. However,
as stated on the packaging, it is a Medicated Cannabis
Lozenge Not A Food Item.
Initially, I did not know what to expect from the packaging.
But to my surprise, there were four doses inside. I really like
the lozenges because I can take one when I am in pain, but
dont want to feel too high. These are a perfect solution for
those who just need to take the edge off.
If youre dealing with issues like chronic neurogenic pain, and
spasticity, this is a terrific product to have in your arsenal. If you
are like me, being high all of the time is not ideal. It is nice to know
that companies like Jolly Meds, take great effort in providing
you with the relief you need while allowing you to still function.

PHARMACEUTICALS DERIVED FROM CANNABIS

DR. ROBERT SETARI
STAFF EXPERT
Drugs That Are Directly Derived From
Chemicals in The Marijuana Plant
SATIVEX MARIJUANA SPRAY
Oral Spray manufactured by GW
Pharmaceuticals. This mouth spray
contains an active chemical compound
that is directly derived from natural
extracts of the cannabis plant. Sativex
contains two cannabinoids: THC (delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol)
and
CBD
(cannabidiol). It is intended for use in the
treatment of neuropathic pain and spasticity
in patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS); It is
also used for relief of moderate to severe
pain in adult patients with advanced cancer.
It was approved and launched in the UK on
June 21, 2010. It is now also available in
Spain (July 28, 2010), Canada (Aug. 31,
2010), Czech Republic (Apr. 15, 2011),
Denmark (June 8, 2011), Germany (July 4,
2011), Sweden (Dec. 22, 2011), Austria
(Feb. 7, 2012), Italy (May 7, 2013), and
Switzerland (Nov. 27, 2013). As of 2014 it
is also approved in Finland, Israel, Norway,
and Poland. In the US, the drug is in Phase
III clinical trials.
Drugs Which Contain Synthetic
Chemicals Similar To Chemicals Found In
Marijuana
DRONABINOL / MARINOL
Tablets
manufactured
by
Unimed
Pharmaceuticals, a subsidiary of Solvay
Pharmaceuticals. Marinol has an active
ingredient that is a synthetic Delta-9 THC.
It is primarily used for the treatment
of nausea and vomiting for patients
undergoing chemotherapy. It is also
used for the anorexia (loss of appetite)
appetite in cancer and AIDS patients
who ohave cachexia (wasting disease).
It is used as a stimulant to promote
eating. It has also bee recommended
as an analgesic to ease neuropathic
pain in multiple sclerosis patients.
It was FDA approved in United States as
Schedule I drug for appetite stimulation
(1992) and for nausea (1985); moved
to Schedule III effective July 2, 1999. It is
approved in Denmark and Canada.
Drugs That Contain Chemicals Similar To
But Not Actually Found In Marijuana

18

CESAMET | NABILONE
These capsules are manufactured by
Valeant Pharmaceuticals International.
They contain a synthetic cannabinoid
analogous to THC. It is prescribed for
the Treatment of nausea and vomiting
in patients getting chemotherapy. It was
originally approved by the FDA in the US

in 1985, but removed from the market

and then re-approved by the FDA. It is
also approved in the United Kingdom and
Australia (1982), Canada (1981), and
Mexico (2007).
DEXANABINOL FIGHTS BRAIN CANCER
This drug is still in the experimental
testing stage. It is manufactured by Solvay
Pharmaceuticals who was acquired
by Abbott Laboratories in 2010. It is a
synthetic unnatural enantiomer of the
potent cannabinoid agonist HU-210.
Unlike other cannabinoid derivatives, HU211 does not act as a cannabinoid receptor
agonist;therefore it has no psychotropic
cannabinoid effects. It will not produce the
high that most cannabinoids produce.
Instead it has more NMDA antagonist
effects. It is not scheduled on the Federal
level and only the state of Floirda has it on
the books as an illegal subtance.
It is currently not approved for use as of
2015. It is still in clinical trials primarily
being tested and studied for use as an
anticonvulsant
and
neuroprotective.
Scientists are hoping that it will have
potential applications in treating head
injuries, strokes, or cancers that blocks
NMDA receptors and COX-2 cytokines and
chemokines.
AJULEMIC ACID STUDY
CT-3 (ajulemic acid) - Manufacturered by
Indevus Pharmaceuticals ajulemic acid is a
another synthetic cannabinoid derivative of
the THC metabolite 11-nor-9-carboxy-THC
without causing a subjective high; it has
with no psychoactive effects at fairly large
doses. It is being developed for the treatment
of neuropathic pain and inflammatory
conditions such as arthritis. However, it
does not have the anti-emetic effects of
other pharmaceuticals in this category so
it is not useful for nausea and vomiting.
As of 2015 it is not approved for use in any
country, but is in clinical trials for use as an
analgesic and anti-inflammatory.
CANNABINOR
This is a synthetic chemical that binds to the
brains CB2 receptors. It is manufactured
by Pharmos and is being studied as an
analgesic for pain relief, especially for
neuropathic pain. It is also being tested
as a treatment for bladder control.
After their Phase II(a) trials Pharmos
reported that cannabinor failed to meet
the primary goal of reducing pain, but the
drug was found to be well tolerated and
safe. Further trials are underway.
HU 308
This innovative drug is licensed by Pharmos
and it is another synthetic cannabinoid.

It is highly selective for the CB2 receptor

subtype. In fact, it has a selectivity of over
5000x for CB2 vs CB1. Synthesised at the
Hebrew University of Jerusalem in the late
1990s. It has analgesic effects, promotes
proliferation of neural stem cells, and
protects both liver and blood vessel tissues
against oxidative stress via inhibition of
Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF-?).
It is not approved for use and is still in clinical
trials. It is not scheduled on the Federal
level in the US and only the state of Florida
has it on the books as an illegal substance.
HU 331
This experimental drug is a quinone
anticarcinogenic drug synthesized from
cannabidiol, a cannabinoid in the Cannabis
sativa plant. It is composed of central
cannabinoid (CB1), peripheral cannabinoid
(CB2), and non-CB receptor-mediated
pharmacology. It is manufactured by
Cayman Chemical.
Although still in clinical trials at research
facilities it has shown promise for use in
the treatment of memory loss, weight
loss, anorexia, neurodegeneration, tumor
surveillance, analgesia, and inflammation.
It is not scheduled by the US Federal
government and only the state of Florida
has it listed as an illegal substance.
Drugs that do not work like marijuana
but use the same brain pathways
RIMONABANT / ACOMPLIA | MARIJUANA
RELATED WEIGHT LOSS DRUG
Prescription tablets manufacturered by
Sanofi-Aventis. Acomplia(Rimonabant) is a
synthetic chemical that blocks the natural
receptors of endocannabinoids in the
brain. This results is suppressing appetite;
the opposite of Marijuana which increaes
appetite. It is used as an anti-obesity drug.
Although it was first tauted as a miracle
obesity drug and approved in Europe, it
was subsequently withdrawn from the
European market because of concerns of
mental status side effects. It was never
approved in the US.
TARANABANT
This synthetic chemical is another
cannabinoid receptor antagonist; it
blocks CB1R receptors in the brain and
suppresses appetite. It is manufactured
by Merck.
It was still in clinical trials in2013 pending
approval as an anti-obesity drug. However,
Merck announced that it decided to stop
development because of the side effects
which included depression and anxiety.

COVER STORY:

2016

JOE BIDEN (D)

As a senator, Biden
took a hard line
against marijuana. He
spearheaded legislation
that created the federal
drug czar position and
mandatory
minimum
sentencing for marijuanarelated offenses.

GRADE: D

As
vice
president,
Biden has continued to
oppose the legalization
of marijuana, but he
has spoken in favor of
reducing enforcement of
federal marijuana policies.

I think the idea of focusing significant resources on

interdicting or convicting people for smoking marijuana is a
waste of our resources. Thats different than [legalization].
Our policy for our Administration is still not legalization, and
that is [and] continues to be our policy.
I am not only the guy who did the crime bill and the
drug czar, but Im also the guy who spent years when
I was chairman of the Judiciary Committee and
chairman of [the Senate Foreign Relations Committee],
trying to change drug policy relative to cocaine, for
example, crack and powder. TIME, February 6, 2014
I still believe its a gateway drug. Ive spent a lot of my life as
chairman of the Judiciary Committee dealing with this. I think
it would be a mistake to legalize. ABC News,

CHRIS CHRISTIE (R)

Gov. Christie opposes the
legalization of marijuana
and has spoken out
repeatedly
against
states that have legalized
marijuana for adults.

GRADE: F

He opposed New Jerseys

medical marijuana law,
which was signed by his
predecessor, and he has
imposed strict restrictions
on the program that
have
hampered
its
effectiveness.

THE PRESIDENTIAL
With the Presidential race in full
swing, we wanted to share with
you where each candidate stands
on the topic of cannabis.
We have given each candidate
a rating from A+ to F-. A
being completely in favor of
legalizing cannabis, and F being
in support of allowing the Federal
government to decide.

LINDSEY GRAHAM (R)

Sen. Graham supports
legal access to medical
marijuana, but he is
opposed to legalizing
marijuana for adult use.
He has not taken a strong
position on states rights
to establish their own
marijuana policies. He
voted against legislation
intended to prevent the
Justice
Department
from interfering in state
medical
marijuana
laws, but he attempted
(unsuccessfully) to switch
his vote afterward.
When asked whether he supports letting states decide or
keeping marijuana illegal federally: I dont see a real need to
change the law up here [in DC]. If marijuana is half as bad as
alcohol, thats probably enough reason to keep it illegal. Just Say
Now, August 10, 2010

GRADE: C -

BEN CARSON (R)

Dr. Carson has expressed some
support for allowing the use of
medical marijuana, but he has
been highly critical of legalizing
and regulating marijuana for
adult use, citing the thoroughly
debunked gateway drug
theory.

When asked if he would enforce federal marijuana laws

in states that have legalized and regulated marijuana:
Absolutely, I will crack down and not permit it.
States should not be permitted to sell it and profit [from
legalizing marijuana]. The Huffington Post, April 14, 2015
If youre getting high in Colorado today, enjoy it. As of January
2017, I will enforce the federal laws. Thats lawlessness. If you
want to change the marijuana laws, go ahead and change
the national marijuana laws. Bloomberg, July 28, 2015

20

GRADE: D

I think medical use of marijuana

in
compassionate
cases
certainly has been proven to
be useful. But recognize that
marijuana is whats known as a
gateway drug.

It tends to be a starter drug for people who move onto heavier

duty drugs sometimes legal, sometimes illegal and I dont
think this is something that we really want for our society. You
know, were gradually just removing all the barriers to hedonistic
activity and you know, its just, were changing so rapidly to
a different type of society and nobody is getting a chance to
discuss it because, you know, its taboo. Its politically incorrect.
Youre not supposed to talk about these things. Fox News
Channel, January 2, 2014

HILLARY CLINTON (D)

Clinton has expressed
a willingness to support
more research into the
potential medical benefits
of marijuana.

Fiorina does not support

the legalization of marijuana
for any purpose, including
medical use. She recently
expressed support for
decriminalization.
She has expressed support
for the rights of voters to
establish their own state
marijuana policies.

GRADE: C+

I remember when I had

cancer and my doctor said,
Do you have any interest in
medicinal marijuana?

I did not. And they said, good, because marijuana today is

such a complex compound, we dont really know whats
in it, we dont really know how it interacts with other
substances or other medicines. Slate, February 2015
Im opposed to Prop 19 and the legalization of
marijuana. Sending billions of dollars in new tax
revenues to Sacramento is exactly the problem
because Sacramento has a spending problem and will
continue to spend the money we send them.
10 Questions, October 2010
Drug addiction shouldnt be criminalized. We need to
treatitappropriately.TheWashingtonPost,May4,2015
I dont support legalized marijuana for a whole host of
reasons, including the fact that this is a very complex
chemical substance, and when we tell young people it
is just like drinking a beer, we are not telling them the
truth. But I think Colorado voters made a choice. I dont
support their choice, but I do support their right to
make that choice. The Hill, June 9, 2015

MIKE HUCKABEE (R)

Former Gov. Huckabee is
opposed the legalization of
marijuana for any purpose,
including medical use.

Im against legalizing marijuana for recreational purposes. But

when it comes to medical marijuana and this [CBD] oil, I think

states that have rejected them.
I think Colorado is violating the federal law. And if we have
controlled substances, theyre controlled substances for a
reason. The federal law is there for a reason, and the states
shouldnt have the option to violate federal law. As Abraham
Lincoln said, you know, states dont have the right to wrong.

The federal government does have a role in making sure that drug use- that states dont
go out and legalize drugs. That there are drugs that are hazardous to people, that do cause
great harm to the individual as well as society to the whole. And the federal government has
a role in making sure those drugs are not in this country and not available and that people
who use them illegally are held accountable. Ideally states should enforce these laws but the

So I would be very strongly inclined to change the federal law to give states, when theyve
had a referenda, the opportunity with respect to marijuana to decriminalize it, except for two
factors. One is we have to know that neighboring states or the rest of the country are not

Thats a legitimate question for the states to make a determination. And the citizens of Colorado

Californias Proposition 215 allows
medical marijuana to be used for ANY
serious condition for which marijuana
provides relief. Cannabis has a remarkably
wide spectrum of medical uses, ranging
from chronic pain, muscle spasticity,
nausea and appetite loss to psychiatric
conditions such as post-traumatic stress
disorder, anxiety and depression.
Following is a survey of conditions reported
by medical cannabis specailist Dr. Tod
Mikuriya. Altogether, Dr. Mikuriya has
recorded over 250 indications for medical
cannabis, as classified by the International
Classification of Diseases (ICD-9). Following
is a compilation of diseases reported by
2,480 of Dr. Mikuriyas 9,000 patients,
according to the primary indication for
which the patients were diagnosed. In
practice, many patients report more than
one indication. One of the most important
uses of cannabis is as a substitute for other,
more dangerous or costly pharmaceutical
drugs. Many patients report substantial
reductions in use of narcotics, non-steroidal
anti-inflammatories,
anti-depressants,
tranquilizers, sleeping pills and other drugs.
This usage is not reported below, because
it does not count as a primary indication.
Because of government restrictions on

Canna Candy Corn Quesadillas

Ingredients
12 Corn Tortillas
2 cups Roast Chicken, diced
3 tbsp Salsa,
3 tbsp Sour Cream
1 tablespoons Green Chilies (roasted, canned or fresh), chopped
Salt and pepper to taste
1 pkg sliced Monterey Jack or white Cheddar (white cheese)
1 pkg sliced Mild or Sharp Cheddar (dark orange)
1 small block Tillamook (light orange) Cheese
3 tbsp Canna Olive Oil
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cut the tortillas into a triangle, leaving the bottom uncut and round
(see diagram). Cut them in pairs so they will match together. Place all tortillas in a sealed zipper plastic
bag with canna olive oil and lightly coat tortillas. In a small bowl combine the salsa and sour cream; stir
to mix. In a medium mixing bowl combine the chicken, green chilies and salsa/sour cream and stir to
completely combine. Salt and pepper to taste. Place one side of a pair of cut tortillas on a large baking
sheet. Spoon 1/3 cup of the chicken mixture onto the tortilla and evenly spread it over the tortilla.
Place the corresponding tortilla on top of the chicken mixture. Repeat for all the tortillas to make 6
quesadillas. Using kitchen scissors or a sharp knife, cut the cheese to cover the top tortilla in a candy
corn pattern: white for the tip, dark orange for the middle (the largest section) and light orange for
the top. Cover the whole tortilla. Repeat for the remaining quesadillas. Place quesadillas in the oven.
Bake until the cheese has totally melted but dont over bake until the cheese is thin and runny (about
5 minutes). Remove from oven, trim any extra cheese if desired and serve.

420 Mummy

Ingredients:
1 tbsp Sugar
2 tsp SAF Instant Yeast
1 tsp. salt
2 tbsp Canna Olive Oil (Try Goodies by
Magooch Gravity Lock Extra Virigin Olive Oil)

cup Milk
1 cup Hot Water
3 cups flour (approximately)
1 pkg Hot Dogs
Mustard or Ketchup

Instructions:
Combine sugar, yeast, salt, canna olive oil, milk, and water
in a large mixer bowl. (I used my Bosch.) Add enough flour
to make a soft dough. Knead on low speed until the dough
is smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Let dough rest
5 minutes. Break off pieces of dough and roll into ropes.
Wrap around hot dogs. Make sure you leave a space for
the eyes! Place on lightly greased cookie sheets. (I always
have extra dough, so I just form rolls or breadsticks
with the leftovers.) Let rise for 30-45 minutes. Bake in a
preheated oven at 350 until lightly browned, about 1820 minutes. Use a toothpick dipped in ketchup or mustard
to make the eyes. Serve warm with extra ketchup and
mustard for dipping.

INFUSED HALLOWEEN

PUPPY CHOW
Ingredients:
Peanut Butter White Chocolate Puppy Chow:
9 cups Rice Cereal Squares (Chex)
1 cup White Chocolate Chips
1/2 cup Peanut Butter, creamy
1/4 cup Cannabutter
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
1 1/2 cups Powdered Sugar
Peanut Butter Chocolate Puppy Chow:
9 cups Rice Cereal Squares (Chex)
1 cup Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
1/2 cup Peanut Butter, creamy
1/4 cup Cannabutter
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
1 tbsp Unsweetened Cocoa {Powder, optional
Peanut Butter Candies (Reeses Pieces)

Instructions:
Prep two cookie sheets by lining them with wax paper for an easy cleanup.
Measure out rice cereal and place in a large bowl. In a small microwave proof bowl, put chocolate chips, peanut butter and canna
butter. Heat in the microwave and stir until smooth. Stir in vanilla extract and then pour chocolate mixture over cereal. Stir to coat
cereal. Place powdered sugar in a ziplock back, dump cereal into bag, seal and shake until coated. Dump cereal onto a cookie sheet,
spread out and let cool for 20 minutes. Peanut Butter Chocolate: Follow steps 2-7 but use your semi sweet chocolate chips instead.
Also, add cocoa powder to powdered sugar.
After all cereal is cooled, mix together and add Peanut Butter Candies.

Ghoulish Quinoa with Brown-Canna Butter

Sage Butternut Squash & Pepitas
Ingredients:
3 cups prepared Black Quinoa
3 cups Butternut Squash,
peeled and cut into 1/2 inch pieces
4 tbsp unsalted Canna Butter
1 1/2 tbspdiced Shallots
1 tbsp fresh Sage, diced
1/2 tsp Kosher Salt
1/2 tsp Black Pepper, ground
1/2 cup Pepitas, roasted and salted
Instructions:
In a large skillet over medium-high
heat, melt the canna butter stirring
often. After melted allow canna butter
to cook for 2-3 minutes while stirring.

Add the shallots and stir for 2 minutes. Add the sage and
stir for an additional minute. The butter should foam slightly
and begin to turn a deep golden color.
Add the butternut squash and stir to fully coat with the butter
mixture. Sprinkle in the salt and pepper over the squash.
Move squash to ensure a single layer only. Let squash sit
undisturbed for about 4 minutes to brown slightly (check to
be sure they are not over browning).
Once the squash has browned on the bottom, stir them,
turning the browned side up. Reduce heat to medium low,
cover and allow to become soft (5-7 minutes). Check for
doneness; the squash should still retain their form but not
be hard in the middle. Add the cooked quinoa to the squash
mixture and using a spatula, fold in the quinoa. The quinoa
will absorb any remaining butter mixture. Serve immediately.

CANNABIS AS A

SPORT PERFORMANCE ENHANCER?

marijuana in his blood at the 1998
Japan games, his first-place win finish
was temporarily called into question.
THC, the main mind-altering chemical
in marijuana, wasnt even included in
the International Olympic Committees
banned-substances list at the time
(it is now, but at a much higher level
than the one he tested at). Rebagliati
was allowed to keep his victory
and medal. It turns out marijuana
might actually help some people
perform better at certain sports.

DR. ALLEN MILLER

STAFF EXPERT
After a long career as a Diplomat
in Sports Medicine and working
with Olympic Track & Field Teams
internationally,
NFL
Players,
Professional Rodeo Cowboys and
all strata of athletes for 20+ years
Im uniquely qualified to discuss this
topic. Edwin Moses is one of the most
famous accomplished Track and Field
athletes of all time (Wikipedia, 1984,
p. 1). What people outside the sports
community most likely dont know is
that Mr. Moses vigilant about what he
ingested, the amount of time he trained,
when he trained, etc. This significant
professionalism is what led to 107
wins and several gold medals from
1976 to 1984. Mr. Moses is famous
for measuring everything that went
into his body down to the micrograms
of supplements, water, and protein as
well as everything else he encountered.
He trained incessantly which brought
about the usual stress injuries
consistent with athletes of his stature.
Cannabis in those years has viewed a
detriment to sporting competitions.
It was inaccurately portrayed as the
stoner drug and unless as Robin
Williams later joked, the only way its
a performance-enhancing drug is if
theres a big f---ing Hershey bar at the
end of the run, right? However, when
Olympic snowboarder Ross Rebagliati
tested positive for a small amount of
46

The Mens Journal interviewed elite

triathlete Clifford Drusinsky, a Colorado
gym owner who also leads training
sessions fueled by marijuana edibles.
He states Marijuana relaxes me
and allows me to go into a controlled,
meditational place, Drusinsky told
Mens Journal. When I get high, I
train smarter and focus on form.
And here is the problem, sports are in
most cases a personal sport, training,
mentality, focus, all come into play
when competition. Obviously, the better
your focused, trained and relaxed to
compete at the highest level possible.
The question that comes to mind
is this unfair advantage? Does the
ingestion of Cannabis, give the athlete
an edge in competing. By definition, a
performance-enhancing drug is any
substance taken by athletes to improve
performance. This term is referenced
often and typically refers to anabolic
steroid use in sports by professional
and amateur athletes.
Other substances may also be taken to
improve performance, including human
growth hormone (hGH), stimulants and
diuretics (Drug-Free Sport, 2014, p.
2). The American College of Sports
Medicine go so far as to say It is
the position of the American Dietetic
Association, Dietitians of Canada,
and the American College of Sports
Medicine that physical activity, athletic
performance, and recovery from
exercise are enhanced by optimal
nutrition (Pubmed.org, 2014, p.
2). I have worked with United States

Olympic Teams as well as Nigerian,

Sierra Leone as well as several other
foreign Olympic Teams with dramatic
inequality of proper nutrition training
and coaching. So by definition Cannabis
is a sport enhancing performance
drug as well as proper nutrition is
to sports performance enhancement
substance.
Cannabis after all is just an herb, in its
natural form it is a vasodilator, antiinflammatory, it decreases stress,
anxiety, increases focus, and most
importantly, it facilitates faster postcompetition recovery (Independent
Drug Monitoring Unit, 2014, p. 2).
Many professional athletes use
this drug to decrease pain, brain
swelling increasing, mental clarity and
decreasing anxiety. Now, its being
ingested to enhance the training
providing a competitive edge as well as
decrease recovery time.
As I stated, by definition Cannabis
is a sports performance enhancing
supplement, and will take its place
along the other enhanced nutritional
supplements on the market today.
Cannabis continues to be a Schedule
1 drug, However, it is not listed on the
banned substance list. It continues
to be an unraveling enigma when it
comes to its effects and possibilities
for human performance. However,
professional athletes are committed to
one thing, winning and this seems to be
an advantage to any athlete at any level.

SHUM-MET CBD REVIEW

containing the product has an Egyptian scene right next
to an actual depiction of what you can expect inside,
that way there are no surprises!

Edibles arent just meant to be a means of consumption

to get you so totally stoned, dude. Edibles are the
source of relief for a countless number of symptoms
and ailments. Shum-Met understands this sentiment.
Their name comes from the Egyptian term Shumshum-met meaning the medical marijuana plant. The
Egyptians believed that the possibilities for the cannabis
plant were infinite. Id say we still have a thing or two to
learn from ancient Egypt.

Shum-Met emerged onto the scene in mid-2014. This

Colorado based company isnt just making a splash in
the industry; its more of a tidal wave. Earlier this year,
Shum-Met received the Best CBD Edible Award at
Cannabis Cup Colorado in April. It was then that they
realized the great need for good CBD infused edibles
and thus, Shum-Met CBD was born.

and undoubtedly smelled like strawberry. The bar is

does that because when it comes to CBD, a little bit
goes a long way, so by pre-scoring it makes it very easy
for someone to control dosing. The white chocolate

CANINE CBD
DOG TREATS

Cannabis is not just for humans! More and more we are seeing companies
that cater to mans best friend. Pet owners are becoming more aware of
the horrible things that are put in their furry companions food. Consumers
are calling for a natural, non-chemical means to help their pets. This
is precisely where The Healthy Canine based in Oregon comes in. As
featured on Edibles List Magazines September 2015 cover, they produce
Canna Banana Dog treats, a line of organic, grain-free CBD dog treats.
All of their ingredients are locally sourced and each treat is handmade
in a commercial kitchen. Canna Banana Dog treats ingredients include:
buckwheat flour, banana, peanut butter, flax seed meal, honey, egg,
medical cannabis CBD oil, vanilla (certified organic). Their preferred
method of infusion is CBD BHO. The process of infusing the CBD BHO is
easy in the sense that the oil is already decarboxylated at 250 degreed,
but difficult in the sense that it takes a long time to cook the product a
low temperatures, careful to not strip the medicinal benefits from the
plant. Each pet treat contains 7.3mg CBD / 1.6mg THC. Each package
contains two regular sized pet treats.
Believe it or not, our September cover girl Mystie Mountain is an 11-yearold longhaired Husky who thoroughly enjoys cannabis. Her owner has
been giving her CBD treatments for many years. Like most big dogs
Mystie has developed arthritis in her hindquarter. She has a hard time
keeping up with her best friend Buddy.
Buddy is a White German Shepherd mix who is 3-years-old and is a bit
neurotic and has serious separation anxiety. Unlike his bestie, he does
not like cannabis. As a test of this theory, we decided to do a blind taste
test (of sorts) with the duo. In the right hand we held a CBD infused
Canna Banana Dog treat and in the left we held the exact same treat
made without CBD. Each time we did this, Mystie went straight for the
infused treat and Buddy took the non-infused version.
After giving Mystie one Canna Banana Dog treat a day, for three days,
we saw noticeable changes in her stance and walk. She seemed to have
a much easier time getting around. She became much more at ease
when trying to stand up or sit down. Her spirits seemed high and once
again she reclaimed her title as Queen of the Dog Park. She was once
more able to keep up with the pack while chasing the ball.
Buddy was given the same amount of infused treats as Mystie
for the same duration. He became a different dog; he seemed
to have a calm come over him. When left alone he did not cry or
howl and even left his moms shoes alone (his preferred method
of punishment for leaving him) always a win in our book! Buddy
was far more relaxed and was happy simply sunbathing all day.
All in all it is this writers humble opinion that if dogs could speak, Mystie
and Buddy would tell us how much they loved the Canna Banana Dog
treats by The Healthy Canine! If you are a cannabis enthusiast or even
just love your dog beyond words who has some kind of ailment we
suggest you check out The Healthy Canine. Their treats are organic
and lab tested. They grow their own medicine to ensure the quality of
the plant. The Healthy Canine is not only Edibles List Approved, but also
Mystie and Buddy think they are just WOOFTASTIC!

EDITOR-IN-CHIEF

SEATTLE, WA - The state of Washingtons

Liquor and Cannabis Board plans to accept
new applications for marijuana retail stores
beginning October 12, 2015.
The announcement came on September
23. Applications have not been accepted
since 2013 when licensing was closed. Jane
Rushford, Cannabis Board chairwoman,
stated that it marks the beginning of Phase II.
In preparation for the expansion, the Liquor
and Cannabis Board said it would raise the
ceilings on how many plants already-licensed
producers are allowed to grow. For example,
the largest farms will be able to grow up to
30,000 square feet of plant canopy, which
is 30% more than the previously regulated
21,000 square feet.

Unlike the first round of applications, these

applications have no end date, no maximum
number of potential shops and no lottery for
deciding who gets a license. The board will use
criteria outlined by Legislature in the new law.
Priority for retail licenses goes to applicants
who ran or worked at a medical marijuana
operation in 2012 or earlier, and who have
stayed current with taxes and business
licenses. Even higher priority goes to applicants
who meet those qualifications and also applied
for a retail license during the first round.
The board set temporary rules Wednesday
while also starting the process of adopting
permanent rules. A series of public hearings
will collect input, including one set for 6:30
p.m. November 12 at the Best Western Plus
Tacoma Dome Hotel.
The cannabis board has licensed 200 stores

The switch to a new medical system wont

necessarily happen by the time the liquor
board starts granting licenses. While stores
will be able to open, they cant sell products
as medical marijuana until a different state
agency the Department of Health decides
what qualifies as medical marijuana.

Stores with new licenses will be able to sell

cannabis for both medicinal and recreational
use. Existing shops can apply for an
endorsement to sell medical marijuana. The
change in regulation stems from unregulated
medical marijuana operations that must close
down by July 2016.
