Bringing the Grand Prix back to Mexico is

the culmination of a journey which began
a lot longer ago than 1992 when Formula
One previously raced here. My father,
Gustavo Hellmund-Rosas, collaborated
with Bernie in the late 1970s and early
1980s for the race to return to the calendar
in 1986 after a 15 year absence so I am
continuing that tradition for my family and
for F1 itself.
Mexico has a racing tradition and has
been home to some memorable battles
in F1. The countrys fans are enthusiastic,
devoted and incredibly proud, which is part
of a great foundation. But that is just the
start. All of the stars have aligned to bring
F1 back to Mexico as we have two hugely
talented athletes flying the flag in the form
of Ferraris test driver Esteban Gutirrez
and Sergio Checo Prez at the wheel

for Force India. Perhaps most importantly,

there is President Enrique Pea Nieto and
his cabinet, who are dynamic and

passionate about promoting Mexico

globally and understood the value of
F1.They have provided the support needed

to give the race a green light.

The Mexican Grand Prix is far from my
first rodeo in F1. As most people know,
I have been involved and/or around F1
my entire life. I was the brainchild behind
bringing the United States Grand Prix to
Austin, Texas in 2012 and it has gone on to
become a popular race with fans and the
industry alike, which is something that I am
very proud of. It takes place at the Circuit of
the Americas track which I named and
designed on a barbecue napkin in 2007,
five years before the inaugural USGP in
Austin. Thanks to F1 returning to Mexico
the Autodromo Hermanos Rodrguez
will once again become one of the most
famous landmarks in the country and that is
something that we all should be proud of.
It was always the plan to bring F1 to
Mexico after the US Grand Prix got off the

grid. Bernie was always supportive of me

doing the Grand Prix in Mexico, but I did
have to convince him that Mexico City was
the right location for the race in the
immediate future and that I had found the
right partners to be the official promoters
of the event Corporacion Interamericana
de Entretenimiento (CIE), the worlds third
largest live entertainment company. He
trusted my vision and that is perhaps what
makes me more honored than anything.
Bernie often says that Mexico would not
be back on the F1 calendar if it wasnt for
me but in fact he has been the real driving
force and I have no doubt that this race will
do him proud.
