STRUCTURAL DESIGN CRIETRIA

1: GENERAL:
Structural design criteria describe the general requirement applicable to design of structure to ensure the
adequate strength for bearing all type of super imposed loads in addition of self-weight.
All structure and their components shall be analyzes for all phases of construction for high degree of
structural competence, reliability and ease of construction as per standards and codes
(Local/international).

5.2: Reinforcing Steel:

(a) Reinforcement used is hot rolled deformed bar of Grade 60 having minimum yield strength 600000Psi
as per ASTM 615 Standard and ACI 318-05, Section 21.2.5 for Seismic Zones is used for
columns, beams, basement retaining wall shear wall and water tank.
(a) Reinforcement used is hot rolled deformed bar of Grade 40 having minimum yield strength
400000Psi as per ASTM 615 Standard and ACI 318-05, Section 21.2.5 for Seismic Zones is used for
slabs, foundation and stirrups.

5.3: Brick Work:

(a) Design of Brick masonry structures shall be accordance with Pakistan Building Code (PBC-2007).
(b) Good first class bricks shall be sound hard and well burnt with uniform size, shape and color, homogeous in texture and free from flaws and cracks. Minimum crushing strength for first class brick
should be 2000 Psi (14 Mpa).

Exposure Condition

The design wind pressure is calculated from following formula (Ref: UBC-1997).

P=CeCqIwqs
9: EARTH PRESSUER:
Lateral earth pressure on retaining wall and basement wall will be computed using Coulomb theory.
However, for granular material pressure coefficient will be computed as follows.

ka (active) = (1-sin ) / (1+sin )

ko (at rest) = (1-sin )
kp (passive) = (1+sin ) / (1-sin )
ka used for retaining wall, ko used for basement wall and kp used for walls moving toward soil.
The Earth quake pressure coefficients for wall are calculated using Mononabe-Okabe formula.
10: GEOTECHNICAL PARAMETER:
The Allowable Bearing Capacity of soil is 1.20 Ton/sft as provided in Geotechnical Report
Recommendations.
