2. GLOBAL TRADE - KEY FINDINGS

The U.S. dominates in the global case material trade. In 2014, the U.S.
exported 4,909 thousand tonnes of case materials totaling 2,913 million USD,
8% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner was Mexico, where it
supplied 22% of its total case material exports in value terms, accounting for
91% of Mexicos total imports.
Overall, the global case material trade reached 13,628 million USD, with a
CAGR of 3% from 2007 to 2014. In physical terms, it increased from 20,982
thousand tonnes in 2007 to 23,437 thousand tonnes in 2014.
In 2014, Germany (9%), Italy (6%), the United Kingdom (5%), Mexico (5%)
and the U.S. (5%) were the leading destinations of case material imports,
together making up 30% of global imports. The share of Mexico increased (+1
percentage points), while the share of France illustrated negative dynamics (-2
percentage points).
Germany and Sweden were among the other main global suppliers of case
materials in 2014 with a combined share of 25% of global exports. However,
the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were Poland (+11% per year)
and the U.S. (+6% per year). The U.S. strengthened its position in the global
export structure, from 18% in 2007 to 21% in 2014.
