GOVERNMENT RULES HINDU TEMPLES BOOK SUMMARY

1. The Cover page of the Book GOVERNMENT RULES HINDU TEMPLES depicting the sound
of the Bell of the Alampur temple on which Archaka Shri Bheemasena Chary
sacrificed his life should ring in our ears for ages to come

The Book can be downloaded from http://www.scribd.com/doc/286630572/Government-RulesHindu-Temples

2. The main object of the Book based on an in-depth research is to increase devotion in devotees which
alone can bring in peace, harmony and happiness among people which is now being sacrificed at the
altar of commercialization and Government interference in the Management of Hindu Temples
3. The Book substantiates with data that the Government which has not been able to fight politicization
and corruption inherent in itself cannot be trusted to administer affairs of Hindu Temples Cleanly.
4. The Book substantiates with data how the Supreme Court allowed Governmental Control of Hindu
Temples by failing to recognize the fundamental fact that whether it is religious or so called secular
activities it needs to be done with devotion an essential and integral part of religion without which the
spiritual purpose is lost. The Court failed to recognize that Government being a secular entity cannot
exhibit devotion.
5. The Book based on a thorough research on the failed AP 30/87 Endowment Act experiment on
temple reforms shows how Supreme Court which upheld the Act did not do justice as per its principle
due to the flawed Essential Practices Doctrine and in the name of reformation
almost reformed the temple system out of existence. The following are the forward looking
recommendations made in the Book
a. The Supreme Court must look at religious freedom and immediately review the Essential
Practices Doctrine as per the definition of what is protected under Art 25 and Art 26 in the Shirur
Mutt case.

b. An autonomous Dharmika Parishad which includes Religious Heads, Retired Judges of merit,
Devotees of repute, archakas and other stake holders to regulate general administration of temples
in each State should be formed through a Central Endowments Legislation similar to Central
Wakf Act to free Hindu Temples from Government Control.
c. The Book recommends for a strict implementation of the ratio in the Supreme Court judgement in
Chidambaram temple case where it was held that takeover of Temples can only be for a stipulated
period of time and only till miss-management is cured after which the Temple has to be returned
back to the community administering it.
