What is Pollution?
Pollution is the contamination of the environments that causes adverse change. It may
be pollution in air, water, land, noise etc. Pollutants are components of pollution and can be
either foreign substances/energies or naturally occurring contaminants. Pollution is often
classed as point source or nonpoint source pollution.

Types of pollutions
1. Water Pollution
- A type of pollution involving the contamination of water bodies and creatures.
It causes a chemical imbalance in the water leading to death of the aquatic
creatures. Washing clothes near the lakes or rivers causes the detergents to
a condition called Eutrophication. It blocks the sunlight from entering inside
and reduces the oxygen causing inhabitable environment or death of the
water species.
2. Air Pollution
- It is the contamination of air present in the atmosphere and when the air is
contaminated with poisonous gases, it may have a fatal effect on people. The
releasing of gases in certain industries may mix with the air and clouds can
cause acid rains.
3. Soil/Land Pollution
- It is the stripping soil of its natural fertility by using artificial chemicals like
pesticides, insecticides and ripening agents. The use of insecticides,
pesticides and other artificial chemicals absorbs the nitrogen from the soil
making it not fitted for the growth of plants. Plants are responsible for holding
the soil together firmly so when the plants cant grow, the soil splits leading to
soil erosion.
4. Thermal Pollution
- The rise in the temperature in the ecosystem due to the release of excessive
heat energy into the environment by artificial methods or natural disasters
may lead into this type of pollution. Thermal pollution results in the rise of
temperature causing the melting of the polar ice caps that is leading to a rise
in the water levels.
5. Radioactive Pollution
- It occurs when radioactive metals disintegrate releasing dangerous beta rays
which can cause cancer other diseases. This pollution may occur by the
dumping of radioactive waste from nuclear power plants into water bodies.

6. Noise Pollution
- This type of pollution may occur by the having too much noise or the excess
of noise. When there are too many vehicles honking on the roads and heavy
machineries being operated, it may cause noise pollution. This pollution is
known to cause mental stress and even depression; the eardrums may be
damaged which can cause deafness to other people.
7. Light Pollution
- Bright lighting in the cities especially in big cities may cause Light pollution.
Too much light on the retina can cause extreme discomfort in the eyes most
especially in dim conditions like during night time. Bright lights can strain the
eyes and can also give headaches and migraines to people exposing too
much light.

Liver Enzymes
Enzymes are proteins found in the body that speed up certain chemical reactions. The
liver enzymes perform these jobs within the liver. Two of the common are known as the Alanine
transaminase (ALT) and Aspartate transaminase (AST). Elevated liver enzymes may indicate
inflammation or damage to cells in the liver. The damage to the liver can come from viruses,
such as the hepatitis C virus, over-the-counter drugs, and prescription and street drugs. If your
VA doctor starts you on a certain medication, he or she may need to monitor your blood
chemistries to make sure the medication is not causing further harm to your liver.
